I just realized this a couple of days ago... but why is channel CP24 broadcasting CTV news at 6 o'clock?
Did something happen that wasn't announced?

It's always been like that. If you watch in the morning Breakfast Television is broadcasted on both, except CTV has it in big format while CP24 has all their bars and windows scrolling.
//CTV as in CityTV right? Or I'm getting it wrong cause I use CTV as CityTV all the time...

CTV bought Chum a few years ago. Chum is city tv amongst other things. So, thats why you get the ctv broadcast on city now... They only started doing this recently, but the purchase was a couple of years ago....

so much confusing comments here.
correct answer is:
CityTV is sold to Rogers
CP24 along with other Chum media is sold to CTVglobemedia.
That is why CP24 shows CTV's news at 6 and CityTV shows their own different version of news.
For some reason though CP24 still broadcasts Breakfast TV which is technically a CityTV program.
get it? :cheesygri

My friend says that they are running focus groups to see if they will lose much viewership if they stop using Breakfast television.

And it looks like CityTV/Rogers will be getting its own 24hours news channel called "CITY News Toronto" to compete with CP24:

I used to look forward to Rewind, they stopped showing that. I listen to ChumFM in the morning and Merilyn Dennis talked about how she was let go from Cityline due to the sale, not that I watch Cityline anyway.

I know they were sharing same studio before. Now I thing CP24 has new studio( Or Rogers?).
I hate when they pay Rogers for moring BF television show. Its kind of getting muddy when same show run on two channels, which are supposed to be different channels as precondition for sale.

cp24 is weird...I want the old cp24, I've always loved CHUM and hated CTV News....:(
Hope Rogers brings back old hosts from cp24.
According to wikipedia the popularity shrunk after buyout....
On July 12, 2006, coincident with the announcement of CTVglobemedia's plans to take over CHUM Limited, all primetime CityNews programs, with the exception of those on CITY-TV in Toronto, were immediately cancelled and 281 CHUM employees across the country were laid off.
These days there is more news about news channel than actual news:-0

I agree ... this "new" CP24 is horrible now ...
It's hard to pin down why it isn't as good, but I hardly ever watch anymore and I used to watch it almost all day

The demise of CHUM was the end of inventive Canadian TV... and it is real sad.
City TV lost its soul when the acquisition of CHUM by CTV Globemedia occurred and the further CRTC forced selloff of CityTV asset to Rogers. Rogers and CTV took away all the good things about CityTV such as FT (sold to CTV), MT (killed), MediaTV (killed), Speakers TV (killed), Baby Blue Movies (killed), Great Movies (now "Rogers on Demand"), Ed The Sock (killed), killing "Silverman Helps" (now apparently on CFRB though), and then the split up of CP24 staffers.
Looks like Rogers got to pick and choose who they wanted to take over to CityTV and got rid of the old baggage such as old BT host Ann Rohmer and Omar Omar Sachedina, George Lagogianes, Lorne Honickman, etc
I still don't understand why CityTV personalities are on CP24 shows such as AutoShop (Hugh Burrill, Roger Petersen, etc - used to be Mirella Fernandez previously) and it is marked at the end as a CTV Globemedia production. What makes it a bit more confusing is that Roger Petersen moved back and forth between CTV and CityTV - perhaps on a contract?
Now Rogers does linkage to Chatelaine and Macleans on citynews.ca which I thought they weren't allowed to do for "journalistic independence'

Theres a wiki about the changes, I too wasn't aware about it until I noticed CP24/CityTV starting to lower in quality
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007_Canada_broadcast_TV_realignment
Its a sad, sad shame, CityTV was my favorite, way better than CTV
While CTV news was in stuffy studio, CityPulse felt more real since it was taped street level in and around the CHUM building.
CityTV really showed the culture of Toronto and it had many original, quality programming. I used to love Great Movies among others :cheesygri I despise the fact that its all being replaced with constantly repackaged reality tv shows and "_____ with the stars" garbage
The same goes with CP24 and Sportsnet, the end of an era indeed

i`m not sure, but didn`t rogers want to sell of CityTV in order to purchase another media group....
the government actually regulates how much of the `free medìa`you`re allowed to own, so rogers cant necessarily take over too much (so i`ve read)
ps: i miss baby blue 2...... *tear* ... all we have is telelatino.....
