What are some recommended avenues to discover new music?
I know what I like, but i can't describe it. However I know it when I hear it.
I'm not posting this because I want your input on the music, but on a method on how to "find" music I like.
Are there any music discovery websites out there?
I know this is kind of vague, but let me know if you have any suggestions.

You can go to Last.fm and put in the name of an artist you like, and it will play music by similar artists. This is one method I use.
Another is I go to a band's MySpace, and then check out their top friends for other bands, which are usually the same or similar genres.
Another option is checking out other bands signed to the same record label. A lot of the time labels only sign certain types of bands.
Sometimes I'll also go on facebook to some of my friend's pages who listen to the same type of music as me, and check out some of the bands they list as their favorites.

The BBC "Sound Of" poll has become the de-facto it list of the year's hottest new acts. Since it began in '03 (except The Bravery) every act that topped the poll has also topped the UK Album Chart.
Last year, it got me into Adele, Duffy, the Ting Tings, Vampire Weekend, and Santogold months before they crossed over to this side of the Atlantic. I remember there was a Coldplay concert thread for their July concerts and people were complaining "Who the hell is Santogold?"... after she was named the headliner. I just rolled my eyes....
I also like visiting a record label's Youtube channel. You not only get the sound of an act, but also their overall image and persona thru their videos.
