Looks like this movie will be banned in China which may not be a good thing for Hong Kong film investors (nowadays). And having personally worked on the initial Hong Kong DVD releases of Jackie's previous HK movies (The Myth, Rob-B-Hood), I cannot confirm yet if Joy Sales will be releasing this to DVD. Hong Kong DVD distribution rights haven't been bought yet. But it will most likely go to us. If that is so, then I will most likely be working on the English subtitles for the commentary and special features. Also discussed possible plans to revamp special feature translations of "The Myth" and "Rob B Hood" for a probable blu-ray release. I was never fully satisfied on the finished product of the DVD's. Rushed schedule didn't let me perfect it as I have originally intended. Still too early to tell cuz they're still testing the waters with the blu-ray release of Benny Chan's "Connected" (remake of Hollywood movie "Cellular").
Crossin' my fingers on "Shinjuku Incident", tho. Waited this long to work on yet another Jackie Chan project. I just hope that "Connected" (bluray edition) sells enough to convince Joy Sales to release "Shinjuku Incident" to bluray.

I wouldn't be watching Shinjuku Incident for Jackie Chan, though.
I'd be watching it cuz I like Derek Yee's movies and he is a great director.
And the pairing between Derek Yee and Daniel Wu is almost like Donnie Yen with Wilson Yip.

Also, it appears that this movie will be rated category 3 for extreme violence and sexual content. That is the Hong Kong equivalent to an R rated movie.

Well, I've spoken one of the head honchos at Joy Sales in Hong Kong back in Dec 2007 and he was absolutely not interested in releasing this for blu-ray. But now that they've finally entered the bluray market with the release of "Connected" (along with their upcoming BD release of "The Beast Stalker"), things might be different. The wait for "The Myth" to hit blu-ray might have to take a little longer. I've been trying to convince them to do it though. We'll just have to wait and see.

looks pretty sick, glad that J. Chan is spreading out in his acting, however, i think he should focus more on his Stunt team and have more "Fight Choreography" by Jackie Chan, making his choreography an icon...
although i'm not sure if he could find someone to pull of what he can do or do it like he can.

I heard Shinjuku Incident won't have the usual Jackie Chan stunts. There is going to be some extreme violence and it's inevitable since this movie deals with Chinese triads and Japanese Yakuza. Also, there probably won't be any early dvd releases of this movie in Mainland China. It's been banned there.

no, this means we'll have to wait a little longer. it's coming to hong kong theatres on april 2nd. there is usually a 2 month waiting period until the dvd's out. so we will most likely see it in june or early july.

sorry, what i meant by spreadin the acting, i meant he won't be playing his normal "hero" role, and being the super cop he usually is. Plus i think he dies during the movie? never happened with any J. Chan movies yet...
and yea, extreme violence ftw!

Well, I just spoke to my former boss at Joy Sales yesterday morning.
While he won't directly tell me that the DVD is being worked on, he knows damned well that I knew what was going on. So he finally stopped the "hint hint" act with me and cut to the chase. Basically, Emperor Motion Pictures is now supervising the production of the DVD themselves. Joy Sales will only be printing out and distributing them. So Joy Sales' involvement with the production of the DVD will be at a minimum just as it was for the recent releases for "The Beast Stalkers" and "Connected". However, I have been told that "The Shinjuku Incident" will be released on DVD and BD on the same time and date. So that means there will be no month-long delay for the bluray release.
And due to the EMP supervising the production of the DVD, this also means I will not return for a third time around on translation for special features in a Jackie Chan movie. I think they've been using their in-house translator for the past while.
Oh yeah...I almost forgot..."The Shinjuku Incident" will be released sometime by the end of June.

Too bad I don't own a PS3.. which means.. time for me to hunt for a deal.

Official release date for the Hong Kong VCD/DVD/BD version is July 8th.
So that means we probably won't see it around until the 10th due to the time required to ship it from HK to Toronto.

Well, this movie's been getting pretty positive reviews so far. And Derek Yee's a pretty good director. I'd probably get it on bluray anyway. Shoulda asked Joy Sales to gimme a free copy but it'd be too late for that now. It took more than a month for me to wait for my autographed copy of "The Myth". And my copy went to Hawaii. (I got the package that was supposed to go to Hawaii.)

Yesasia is also known to get their facts wrong. But Joy Sales also has a tendency to delay releases (like with the recent release of "Sex and Chopsticks 2").

Film could well have been done in taiwan if they modded the story a bit. Ok film, nothing really special about it.
It seems they mostly filmed in one small area of Tokyo (i guess due to city fees).

Hence, the title "Shinjuku Incident".
I saw the first half tonight. Pretty good so far.
I think I will definitely pick this up on blu-ray next week. I'm kinda disappointed that I didn't get to help out on the DVD/BD release. I've been told that Emperor Motion Pictures just suddenly decided to do an in-house production for the DVD/BD of this movie. Woulda been nice to get some first-hand information on the film before the DVD comes out.

Watched it yesterday. It is surprisingly good.
Definitely violent but nothing over the top.
The story is well written and the cast act well.
highly recommend it.
Only thing I don't like is how the heck did Jackie Chan score a girl like Fan Bingbing?

http://forum.tower3a.com/thread-4884-2-1.html
Check the first post in the second page of this thread and you'll see the difference. Basically, the limited edition of the DVD is a hardcover digipack with some sort of booklet. As per usual with Joy Sales DVD's, the regular edition only includes the regular 2 discs itself. (The second disc on the BD edition is a DVD.)
My old boss William Lau (from Joy Sales) might be able to answer your question more thoroughly since I have no involvement on the DVD production this time.

Seeing Jacky Chan getting it on...ughhh there's some people you don't need to see getting it on... it's left an everlasting impression on me.

I think it was interesting to see Jackie Chan in such a role.
In my limited memory of his movies (I'm not really a big fan), he never get pass the "kissing" scene (if there's even that).

You may want to put spoiler warnings on that or put it in white font.
Highlight to read: I have a feeling they all died, but the director probably felt it wasn't something we would want to see.

SPOILER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think Jackie Chan's role was always meant to be a good guy.
But due to the circumstances he had put himself into, he had no choice but to associate with the yakuza in order to gain legal status in Japan. He only wanted this dealing once and had looked forward that his sacrifice would be a gateway to legal business. But in the end, that didn't happen as his dealing with the yakuza only helped form a whole new triad gang which was far from what he wanted. Either way, he was leading to a point of no return and he knew it all along.
