View Full Version : [Merged] American Idol (2009)

Did anyone catch American Idol on Tuesday night? Who is this new judge, Kara DioGuardi? Never heard of her. She is kind of dull and is another brunette like Paula, so it is hard sometimes to distinguish between the two of them. Maybe they could have gotten a blonde woman instead. And what happens if there is a tie when deciding which performer goes to Hollywood?

From http://www.karadioguardi.net/
Kara DioGuardi’s songs have appeared on over 100 million records, including Grammy award-winning artists like Christina Aguilera, Celine Dion, Gwen Stefani, Pink and Santana. DioGuardi’s songs have also been included in the albums of Britney Spears, Jewel, Enrique Iglesias, Kylie Minogue, Marc Anthony, The Jonas Brother, Miley Cyrus, Avril Lavigne and Hilary Duff, among many others.
As though she was destined to be an American Idol judge, Kara DioGuardi has also helped Idol winners and contestants with their albums. The stars from American Idol that made DioGuardi’s songs popular include Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Katharine McPhee, Bo Bice, Taylor Hicks, Clay Aiken and David Archuleta.
Over the last four years, Kara DioGuardi has been awarded 10 BMI Pop Awards for writing the most-performed songs on radio. From her hundreds of songs, over 265 of them have been released on major record labels worldwide and more than 165 have appeared on multi-platinum albums. Aside from a very impressive record as a songwriter, Kara DioGuardi also co-owns the Arthouse Entertainment, a company focused in developing and mentoring hit writers, artists and producers.

My first reaction was that they are slowly trying to weed Paula out of the show.
I'm thinking we are going to see a little less of her this season and not at all next. She looks like she's on some serious pain killers. What was with her fight with Simon at the beginning of the show? She flipped out when all he did was blurt out something about her "band".

yeah I don't think four judges is really necessary. Especially since the new one is pretty dull. If they are trying to replace Paula might as well just stick with 3 judges and once shes gone bring in the new one. At least Randy's reactions are still funny.
And what happens if there is a tie when deciding which performer goes to Hollywood?
They had a split decision on one last night and the person went through. So I guess you still just need 2 votes to go through to Hollywood. Making the fourth judge even more pointless.

I watched the show last night and was totally irritated for most of it.
I can never understand why they spend so much time showing us the crappy auditions and then only televise one or two of the people that made it through. For example, on the first day of the Arizona auditions they put 9 people through to Hollywood, but only showed us two of those auditions. On the second day, they put through something like 16 people, but still only showed us 3 or 4 of the successful auditions. On the flip side, they must have televised at least 30 people that had no talent at all. I just don't understand why they think people are so intent on seeing the crappy singers. If the producers feel that bad auditions are what people find entertaining and are needed to keep the ratings up, then at least they could make it 50/50 between good and bad auditions.
I was also totally bored during the entire "bikini-girl" segment. It was funny at first, but then became totally lame. The girl had a hot body, but face wise she was just plain-jane. I was actually surprised that they put her through and I totally agreed with Kara's opinion on her. At least I got to laugh when Kara told her to show up naked for her next audition (in Hollywood). I'm betting that the girl won't even make it through Day One in Hollywood - the gimicky contestants never go far...

The only question worth asking is: How are they going to resolve ties (2 judges vs. 2 judges) during the audition process?
Having an even number of judges is dumb.
Oh, and American Idol really showcases America at its best.
If it's tied, they put the contestant through to Hollywood anyway. Canadian Idol's always had 4 judges.

They only show limited amount of people that make it through because they have made it through. You will see them in upcoming episodes at least once with more info on them and a lot more spotlight depending how far they get, while the people who suck only get this one chance to 'shine'. I personally only watch the first half of the season for the ppl who suck.
....and I totally agree, that bikini chick lost my interest real fast. Basically the second she opened her mouth. What a waste of a ticket.

They had it on at the gym, so I watched it for a bit. Didn't see Ryan try to give the blind guy a high five. I'll youtube that later. Did the blind guy make it through?
I saw the bikini girl though. It seems like that other judge was jealous of her or something, trying to show her up. and then the bikini girl gave her attitude and said that she wasn't that great. Couldn't really make out what was being said, but it looked stupid and juvenile.

The tryouts are always the most entertaining. We get these unusual characters like the first guy who had a afro. I bet that guy should stood out in the crowd - a Vietnamese guy with an afro no less. And those awful singers who don't know how bad they are.

Wasn't it said in the media somewhere that Simon was going to retire from "American Idol" after season 10?
So if they phase Paula out, and Simon quits...who can they get next?
Can't see Fox canceling the show as it was reported to the media that Fox has no plans nor needs for staff reductions mostly due to the massive hit that is American Idol.
Although...they will not be doing the charity show this year...go figure.

Well that new girl would replace Paula, so they would have to find a judge that is a Simon equivalent. Won't be hard to find a musically knowledgeable hardass that gives it straight. What season is this? 8? they have plenty of time.

also the guy that sang...somewhere over the rainbow was good but too loud!
jason castro & his brother were there...both lame.
the 16 yr old gal who sang the corrine baily song was good...hope she goes far.
it all depends who they get teamed up with for thier 'groups"...could be lots of drama.
Can i view clips of the auditions? i couldnt find them on youtube.... ;-(

Anyone been watching American Idol lately? On wednesday's edition from Salt Lake City, the first singer was the son of one of the Osmonds. They profiled his struggle with MS. I though it was strange that someone with a recognizable surname would get preferential treatment. Isn't the purpose of American Idol is to find someone totally unknown?

I have a funny question.
Do all 4 judges really have to audition every single person?
Is there a screening process, I highly doubt they can sit through hundreds of thousands of people, it seems unbearable.

I already know the winner,
the second contestant (a gentleman, no recall name) who performed on his keyboard and has the soothing, r&b, soulful voices that is going to carry him to greatness.
To briefly describe him, he was the second performer, shaved head, and was wearing a vest?!?!
Anyways, this man has talent and is definitely one to contend with!

If you're referring to Danny Gokey's friend, his name is Jamar Rogers. I think they'll both get into the top 12...and my money right now is on Danny to win. He's got a great voice and is really soulful...he's also a good looking guy who is sensitive (he cried openly about losing his wife) so I'm sure that the female voters will go crazy for him.
And I agree that Tatiana is one of the most annoying contestants I've ever seen in 8 seasons (even worse than Sanjaya!). I highly doubt that they'll put her through to the Top 36, but even if they do, I'm sure the voters will make her one of the 6 girls that get eliminated before the Final 12 girls are selected for the actual shows.

yah i was pretty dissapointed by the decisions. Seemed a lot of people who screwed up/forgot lines made it through. I was baffled by Jamar not going through, yet that Norman freak and that annoying screaming/crying girl "Tatiana" made it through. They are clearly just going for strange people rather than raw singing talent it would seem, or else they show very select coverage of the hollywood week.

I can't believe Tatiana made it. She can sing but her attitude is way out there. Cries all the time and I think that viewers already hate her so she won't make it.

Top 36 http://www.americanidol.com/top_36/
Adam Lambert - They showed him a lot during the audition episodes, I think he will go far.
Nick Mitchell - Nick/Normal. I couldn't believe he went through, his whole vibe is a joke, with that Normal Gentle personality.
Tatianna - so annoying, I don't think people will vote for her to stay too long.
Stephen Fowler - black guy with afro, he forgot his lyrics a lot and still got put through.
Danny Gokey - Happy he got through, his friend Jamar should of gone through too, they were both really great and I was totally surprised his friend didn't "stand out" enough.
Scott Macintyre - Good for him for going through.

I'm going to chime in here and agree with all of you about Jamar Rogers. Based on what we saw of him, he should have gotten through. I am simply left here shaking my head and thinking back to a similar snubbing last year when they let Josiah Lemming go even though he was one of the most original and likeable contestants on the show.
The problem I have with this show is that it is so heavily edited, it's really hard to figure out what to believe.
For example, last night they made a big deal of saying that Anoop Desai was the first contestant to face the judges, but then in a later shot we saw that he was still sitting in the holding room and waiting with a nervous look on his face when Nick/Norman got put through. So obviously he wasn't the first guy to face the judges - I just don't know why they feel the need to mislead us on such a trivial point. It totally brings the integrity of the show into question.
Another example that comes to mind is Taylor Vaifanua. Last night they showed her facing the judges, and either Randy or Simon made a comment about how she had forgotten her lyrics on group day. I was totally shocked. I remember that she sang with Jamar and Danny on group day and they got a standing ovation from Paula and Kara and all the judges said that it was an amazing performance...but we never saw Taylor flub the lyrics. But sure enough, they showed a clip of her mumbling into the mic on stage on group day...which is something that was conveniently edited out (probably because Simon started that day by saying "if you forget the words, you're out"). So apparently it was ok to kick off the "no name" singers for forgetting their lyrics, but when a featured contestant messed up, it was nicely overlooked.
Another issue that I have with the show is that they put through Joanna Pacitti. This girl not only flubbed her lyrics multiple times, but she also already had a record deal up until 17 months ago. I also read an article which said that she has starred in an MTV reality series, had one of her songs featured in the movie Legally Blonde, been on tour with Sheryl Crow, and had the honour of having Britney Spears do a cover of one of her other songs (usually its the other way around with Idol contestants doing covers of Britney songs). The kicker to all of this is that Pacitti is also good friends with Michelle Young and Roger Widynowski, who just happen to be two top executives at 19 Entertainment (the company that produces Idol). That's just ridiculously unfair.
But alas, it seems that American Idol feels that they can get away with this sort of stuff because they are the top rated show on TV and know that the fans will watch anyways...and unfortunately, they're right...I'll still be tuning in for every show even though I don't like how they've been doing things the past couple seasons.

pintobean, you have very, very good points there. i noticed the order thing, too but i don't think it's that big of a deal. i guess they just wanted to show the contrast between the people that were good and made it and those that had to battle it out and/or didn't make it. although they did show back to back contestants that didn't make it/did make it..
and you're right, at the end of the day for them, it's about getting those ratings and being entertaining. that's basically why they show the horrible auditions at the beginning.
it's definitely a guilty pleasure of mine, i'm not going to lie.

So far Danny seems to be my top choice. Its not that his voice was scratchy, but he has a raspy voice, which is a good thing. Simon was just being an ass by saying that it was very good but not great LOL
Tatiana, I was a bit surprised she composed herself, until the end when she started begging that she really wants to move forth LOL talk about attention-seeker. She can sing, but she will not go far.

I noticed they had a shot of Jamar while Dan was singing. STILL pissed at that. Just put him back on the show if you wanna save this season. Ratings will drop hard in the next few shows if this caliber keeps up.

+1. It feels like they're starting out with the weakest group. Hopefully it picks up.
I really don't think that they intentionally intended to start with the "weakest" group, because there were actually quite a few "strong" performers on last night's show. The truth is that people who had been given a lot of "face time" and who were expected to perform well actually bombed big time under the pressure. I'm specifically referring to Jackie Tohn, Stevie Wright, Casey Karlson, Michael Sarver and Anoop Desai...if those five had turned in the kinds of performances that we were led to believe they were capable of, then we'd have a real entertaining showdown on our hands at tonight's results show.
As it stands now, we're definitely going to see Danny Gokey get through as the top male singer. I'm also betting that Alexis Grace will go through as the top female. After that it gets fuzzy...I think that the Braddy guy (who received no airtime previously) will have a decent shot at getting through, but the people over at "vote for the worst" are pushing Tatiana, so we may see her move on instead *cringe*.

Wow - I just found out that Joanna Pacitti has been removed from the show for unknown reasons!
http://www.realitytvworld.com/news/american-idol-disqualifies-joanna-pacitti-from-eighth-season-competition-8428.php
She was removed because she knew some of the people who worked for American Idol's production company, 19 Entertainment, and she had some professional experience with a recording contract that recorded some songs for the Legally Blonde soundtrack and another movie.

I'm going to miss the insane suspense of waiting to see what that nutcase will do.
I half expected Tatiana to run into the shot during Danny's celebratory performance and start beating him senseless LOL.
For as entertaining as she was, part of me really gets upset at this show -- they allow people to participate who clearly aren't in a position to deal with real life. There's bound to be a nasty suicide or something sooner or later.

I thought it was weird how they kept showing Tatianna crying when Danny was performing again at the end.
And it's pretty cut throat how only 3 of 12 are making it through, if you sucked, you are out, just like that. I was surprised that country boy oil worker made it through, the other two no surprise at all. I like this season better, it's less bs about how they are good singers but just chose a bad song.

So glad Tatiana is gone. To be honest, although they may add colour, I hope all drama queens go (including guys)...
Tatiana was very annoying, and then suddenly very serious and then a crying mess who really showed she is a self-centered drama queen when she would not even clap at the end with all of the contestants including others that were booted that night who were clapping.
I am surprised she was so shocked. Did she REALLY think she was going to beat Danny, by far the best on the show, and prime to win it all (great singer, great story, very humble -> got my vote).
There are so many young kids on this show that regardless of their voice are not ready for prime time although people like Amy Winehouse etc. aren't either.
Anyways, props to Danny, hope he goes all the way. Nice to see someone be so humble and just sing. This thing is supposed to be about singing, not bringing your parents on air to say "You're the best!" when you lose.
I think Simon, although quite negative, is really just the voice of reason on this thing. He doesn't get emotional about it, he just says whether you can sing or not and if you give a good performance or not. Paula and other new chicky get too wrapped up in the emotions and I am sick of hearing Randy say "Dawg"... at first it was cool, now it's like, if I played the shooter game and had a shot every time he said it I would have alcohol poisoning!

This is going to be an adventure in Danny Disappointment. He's not as transparently full of crap as others initially, but it'll come through eventually. And I predict the baby jesus will start creeping into his stuff little by little as time goes on.
He's fine and all, but I doubt I'd buy his album. I think part of his popularity is that he simply understands the secret of NOT SMILING when you sing. Instant credibility.

Hmmm... I did some Google research on Danny Gokey and found that he may not be as nice and gracious and humble as Idol is making him out to be...
The stuff I've read about him and the church he works at is quite negative, but since it's not irrefutable proof, I'm not going to repost it here and cloud anyone's judgment unnecessarily...

ultimately, it's about this voice though. he can sing very well and it's not like he's pushing his story everytime he has air. it's ryan/the producers that remind us all of his back story (i'm not sure whose idea it was for his friend to hold the photo of him and his wife while he was singing though..). and he's clearly not going to be a ***** on t.v. i don't know, i just think it's hard to tell who/how these people are just by watching them on t.v. so i'm trying to not to judge. i will just judge his vocal ability and performance.

I understand where you're coming from, but personally I find it a lot more fun to surf the net and read the reports from people who have dug into the past of the contestants. Sometimes the information they find is quite interesting. I'm specifically referring to the whole Antonella Barba fiasco of a few years ago and the revelation last season that Carly Smithson was already a semi-pro who previously had a recording contract.
The other day I read that both Casey Carlson and Joanna Pacitti have done some pretty revealing bikini photo shoots in the past. I found this interesting because Casey Carlson has been portrayed as a really cute, shy and down-to-earth girl - definitely not someone you'd expect to see flaunting her boobs and ass in a skimpy bikini on the beach! And apparently Joanna's shots were even more revealing - they were taken by Ute Ville who is a famous Hollywood photographer that does a lot of artsy nudes.
I also heard on the radio today that Ryan gave an interview on Thursday where he said that the producers forced Tatiana to undergo a set of psychiatric tests to make sure that she was sane enough to go on the show! I found that to be hilarious! I actually can't believe she passed!

it is interesting to see what they've done in the past, but it'll affect their fans' judgement of them in the end, which may not be a good thing. so the lesson is so make sure nothing leaks when you become remotely famous, hah.

Yes, I agree that Allison did well and will probably be the top girl. Adam was too diva-esque for my taste, but I suspect that he will also get through because the rest of the guys were quite forgettable. The third spot is a toss up...I would probably give it to Mishavonna based on her performance, but Matt Giraud could also take it based on his previous performances. I am disappointed that Jasmine really bombed because she was one of my top choices going into the evening.
I am curious to see how this plays out - it wasn't as clear cut as week one.

Last night, American Idol started very poorly with the first few singers performing awfully. The common theme from the judges was that most of the singers picked the wrong songs that did nothing to advance them.
The only singers likely to advance was Allison Iraheta, a 16 yr old, and Adam Lambert, the final singer who did a good job with the Stones song, "Satisfaction".
Why was Nick Mitchell, the guy with the shorts, is even in the top 36 is beyond me. He wasted a spot that should have gone to someone else.

Nick, or his alter ego, "Norman" does not deserve to be there I agree but I bet he will go on to do as well financially as the winner of Season 8 Idol. He got enough exposure out of this to get some gig in movies or a Vegas show or something.
But this show is supposed to be about singing so he is not a great singer and all the other stuff he does, although funny, has nothing to do with his voice.
Some of the contestants last night were simply horrible and their song selections were way too safe and karaoke like...

So I heard that Simon Cowell gave an interview where he discussed the Wild Card show... The judges will select 9-12 people to perform that night and then the next day 3 of them will be selected to join the Top 12 for the real elimination shows.
But there was one big surprise that he let slip...
Apparently some of the people performing that evening will be selected from the contestants who didn't get selected to be a part of the Top 36 - so there is a good chance that we'll get to see some of the fan favourites brought back. Maybe Jamar Rogers will get another chance?!
And in completely unrelated news - I heard on the radio that Bikini Girl is now being paid up to $10,000 to make promotional appearances at "events". They didn't say what kind of events, but they mentioned that she was a special guest at the opening of a nightclub in L.A. I also heard that she has said that she might be interested in posing for Playboy if "the price was right", but so far they haven't made any offers. This girl is doing a brilliant job of turning her 15 minutes of Idol fame into a healthy payday...good for her!

I don't know how you can say that everyone was "decent" last night, because in my opinion at least 25% of the performances were just awful  I'm talking about Arianna Afsar, Alex Wagner-Trugman and Nathaniel Marshall. I actually turned to my wife during Nathaniel's performance and said "how on earth did this guy get through to Hollywood, let alone the Top 36?"
Anyways, my picks for the 3 finalists are Lil Rounds, Jorge Nunes and Scott MacIntyre. I would actually be shocked if these three don't get put through.
Having said all that, I have to say that I'm not the biggest fan of Scott's voice - as rude as it sounds, if the guy wasn't blind, he'd probably have been cut long ago. The fact is that everyone likes the underdog, so we're probably going to see Scott stick around for a while on this show - just like we'll see Danny last a long time because he's a widower...
My other criticism if for Lil Rounds. As good as she was last night, I think she needs to change things up big time or the audience is going to get bored of her very quickly. Last night I turned to my wife and said "I remember Lil Rounds from a previous season of Idol - but I think she went by a different name that year...Fantasia Barrino". That was my lame attempt at a joke  but the truth is that Lil has the same voice, sings the same kind of songs, has the same hairstyle and the same appeal as Fantasia...and if she sticks around for a while, people will say that Fantasia won in Season 3 and hasn't become a huge star, so maybe they should give someone else a shot... I think that Lil will get voted out the first week that she stumbles on a song.

As for Scott, the blind guy, he is getting through because of a sympathy vote. While he is good, he is also overrated. Some of the ones that failed to make the final group of 12 were just as good or better than him.

I'm not quite ready to bet big money on Danny winning it all just yet because in the past few seasons we have seen people come out of nowhere to become a front-runner and a fan-favourite after the first couple shows...
Last season, going into the Top 12, I don't think anybody expected David Cook to be the winner (I thought it would be Archuleta). Similarly, a couple seasons ago, everybody thought Melinda Doolittle would win, but she finished 3rd behind Blake Lewis and Jordan Sparks.
So while I still think that Danny is the sentimental favourite, I think that some of the other performers might surprise us a little. For some reason I get good vibes from Kris Allen and Alexis Grace. And if Matt Giraud gets through on tonight's wild card show, I think he could do very well.

Adam Lambert is sure to win American Idol based on his performances that are far ahead of the rest of the contestants. Even if he should not win due to some bizarre voting, he will get a recording contract from a music company.
As for Michael Jackson night, few of the singers had success with the songs because only Michael Jackson could sing them the right way. After all, they are his songs.

I think Paula feels threatened that the producers will actually follow through with their threat to replace her now that Kara is on the panel; so she's trying to clean up her act (laying off the booze or drugs before the show to avoid dopey comments).
However, you can see she's still a terrible judge. There were two contestants I remember this week (Mar 25th show) when she was the first judge to speak, and she said she loved performance; but the remaining three judges totally disagreed with her.
As for the "judges save" last night... maybe the judges would have come to a decision faster if Kara and Paul would actually listen to the performance instead of dancing to the music. Notice how Simon and Randy were actually talking to each other during the performance debating whether or not to use the "save", and then when it came time to give the answer to Seacrest; then you see Kara and Paula discussing.
I hate it when the judges (especially Paula) stands up and sways their hips during the performance. Listen to the f***ing performance; and critique it; you can hit the clubs after the show.

I find Paula really annoying. Simon, whether you love him or hate him, is really accurate and the best judge. He has no emotional attachment to anyone, Paula certainly does...
I hope they boot Paula off the show, she discredits the judging with her dancing and "I love everyone" attitude.
Kara deserves her job.

I have really liked Adam's performances from the very beginning of the season and I really wish that I could agree with your conclusion that he will win, but I just don't see that happening...
The majority of the people who watch Idol and cast votes for the winners are teen girls and middle-aged women living in "Middle America". And the sad truth (as I see it) is that Adam, as a gay man, will soon discover that the teen girls like to vote for guys that they swoon over (and many of them will refuse to swoon over a gay guy). Similarly, "Middle America" is the religious heartland of the US and the middle-aged women who live there will probably have a hard time supporting a gay man who wears eye-liner and nail polish...they are more drawn to the wholesome "good" boys. When you consider that Danny Gokey is already a fan favourite, fits that wholesome good boy image perfectly and is also very religious, it is almost a certainty to me that he will be the winner.
If you think I'm being extreme, go have a look at some of the Idol fan forums. I was reading one the other day and was disgusted. Grown women with hundreds of posts were openly referring to Adam as f@g and saying that they hated him and he would rot in hell. There were also girls saying that they wished Adam wasn't gay because then they could vote for him...
It's sad, but I don't think America will pick Lambert as the winner when they have a more "acceptable" option like Gokey.

There's been some fantastic performances, especially from Adam Lambert here (http://s79.photobucket.com/albums/j141/mjsbigblog/Top%208/?action=view¤t=adam-top8.flv) and here (http://s79.photobucket.com/albums/j141/mjsbigblog/Top%2010/?action=view¤t=adam-top10.flv).

My Final 3 Prediction
1.Adam
2. Danny
3. Allison

The final two is definitely Adam and Danny.
Adam will probably win because of his unique take on music even though I didn't find his performance from last week all too great. It actually cause my ears to bleed, yet everyone was praising him.

i'm glad matt didn't go home last night, but i'm not looking forward to the double elimination or disco theme next week. i think lil will/should go next week with maybe anoop? i like him, but it's between him and matt and i like matt's voice better.
i def. agree that top three will be adam, danny and alison. they've all be praised way too much. i'd be shocked if they get eliminated beforehand.

i used to like danny but a few weeks ago, i think he went downhill. yes, he can sing, but compared to the other two in terms of range and style, to me they were better. i'm team kris! i like his style better than adam's. although after watching the homecomings, he seems sooo friendly and approachable, that i like him a bit more now too. we know he's going to win though. but kris will get a deal, no doubt about that.

i'm so happy that kris is in the finals over danny
danny was boring...he pretty much screamed through every performance...no originality..and he's very stiff on stage, especially during uptempo songs
...also very arrogant..
kris is an all around better MUSICIAN...he is a true ARTIST...believe me, he will sell more records than adam...
although adam has a great voice he is more a performer, better suited for the stage.

A bit of a yawn for this year's American Idol. None of the finalists interest me; so don't care who won. No wonder the ratings for American Idol for recent years has slip. More over-hyped pablum.

WOW!
I don't wanna toot my own horn, but I actually predicted this result 2.5 months ago on March 5! I specifically said that I was not willing to bet on Gokey winning it all and I said that I got good vibes from Kris Allen!
I'm not quite ready to bet big money on Danny winning it all just yet...
...I think that some of the other performers might surprise us a little. For some reason I get good vibes from Kris Allen...
 I also said that Alexis Grace and Matt Giraud would do well, but we can overlook that part of my prediction
To be honest, I actually knew that Gokey was going home because I checked out the Dial Idol website and saw that he was trailing the other two guys in the voting percentage. I guess that Kris Allen's nice-guy image completely won out over the smug demeanor that Gokey seemed to exude in recent weeks.
I am now predicting that Kris Allen is going to win in next week's finale.
The reason for this is because Seacrest said that there was less than a million votes between Adam Lambert and Kris Allen, so it was closer than most people think...and now that Gokey is off the show, his millions of fans will have to choose which guy to support.
I am guessing that the great majority of Gokey fans will vote for Kris instead of Adam, because Gokey's style is closer to Kris than Adam and because Kris' values are quite similar to Gokey's (Kris is a straight, married man with a gorgeous wife, while Lambert is a flamboyant, theatrical gay guy). On top of this, Kris' homecoming video from last night was a complete tear-jerker and focused a lot on his relationship with his family, which probably endeared him to the undecided voters a lot more than Lambert's video which portrayed him as a nice, fun-loving guy, but didn't quite show his "soft" side (and we all know that the teen girls and middle-aged women love the "softies").
No matter who wins, I will be happy, but I sure as heck won't be buying tickets to this year's Idol Tour Concert (in my opinion, it was one of the most boring seasons ever!)

Allison should be in the final idol, she has the coolest voice of the crew, what a shame. Danny might have the best voice but not the creativity the other two have.
I agree with above, I think Adam might lose because he won't get Danny's voters.
Anybody else tired of Adam's screaching and screaming? I mean he has a pretty cool kind of 80's big hair metal sound, but not sure if suits today

OMG? Kris Allen won? Woah...did you see Simon's face when the winner was annouced?
1) He looked pissed
2) He didn't stand up when all the other judges did to applaud (heck, I don't think he was even applauding).
3) The camera never once showed Simon's face after the announcement.
Well...let's see how long it takes until Simon offers Adam a contract just because he knows Adam has the chops! Hell...I'd buy one of his albums in a heartbeat.
Oh well...till next year!

Adam Lambert was the favourite to win. So it was a bit of an upset. Perhaps the American public had some difficulty in choosing a flamboyant gay guy.

Kris CLEARLY sang the idol single way better... and none of the judges made note of that on the performance night.

best part of the final was bikini girl and her new rack. Kinda glad Kris won, I got a bit sick of Adam simply adding his screaming to every song. However I am suprised that he didn't win seeing as how the judges couldn't say enough good things about him every week, just too "out there" for the average american voter though most likely.

You know what...not winning the show could be a blessing in disguise for Lambert.
Now he'll get to choose which company to sign with and he'll get to decide what kind of record he wants to put out. If he had won the show and the accompanying recording contract with Idol's producers, they probably would have pushed him into making a pop music album full of songs like "No Boundaries" (the crappy Idol single that Kara co-wrote and which was a complete mis-match for both Kris and Adam's voices).
I have heard other Idol contestants say publically that they were glad they didn't win since they were then able to choose their own destiny - Chris Daughtry is a perfect example of this, and Kelly Clarkson has said that she was much happier with her second album since she had more of a say in what kind of music and songs went into it.
So don't cry too much... I am totally betting that when we look back at this season in a few years we'll see that Lambert is the most successful contestant (with Allison Iraheta right behind him).
On a side note, I really loved Iraheta's performance with Cyndi Lauper and Adam's performance with KISS (even though that's not my style of music). The other highlight of the night was Kara totally showing up Bikini Girl during her performance  The girl was soooo pissed when Kara came out!

I was hoping that American Idol would not extend her contract after her dismissal first season, however, after that little stunt, I'm sure a contractual agreement is set.
I also loved the part where Ryan asked Bikini Girl, "I was going to ask what's new, but I think I already know." - Hilarious!

Some good points, hence why Simon looked so pissed. He's probably thinking a whole lot of $$$$ down the drain, lol. So does this mean that he's free from any contractual obligations with AI or with Simon Cowell? I'm sure they still get a cut of his earnings in some way.

I'm pretty sure that they are still tied into Idol contracts even if they don't win. After all without Idol, they would not be selling any albums. Maybe its a little more flexible for non winners though, not too sure. At minimum a percentage of profits made I'm sure line the pockets of AI/Fox for some set amount of time.

19 Management, affiliated with AI, has first option to sign any of the contestants so Adam is not out of their clutches.

Those came out extremely well. His renditions of "The Promise" and "Kiss From A Rose" that been floating around Youtube are also good examples of his "non-screaming" abilities.
The judges recognize Adam's incredible vocal range and control that others like Danny wasn't able to match (remember Danny's rendition of "Dream On" that sounded like a cat screaming while getting its tail run over by a car?). Win or lose, he's set.

Of all the Idol contestants, I think I've only bought a Daughtry CD and my wife got a Kelly Pickler. I am considering getting the David Cook one and planning on getting the upcoming Michael Johns one when it's available.
My wife and I were planning on seeing the Idol tour last year but didn't have time. We're considering to check it out this year but absolutely loathe seeing Megan Joy and Danny Gokey.

So Paula Abdul quit the show, in an announcement today.
I'm guessing Simon sort of saw this coming a year or two ago. Hence his hiring of that other female judge. And also his recent push for X Factor to come stateside, with Cheryl Cole as the likely head judge. He's been talking flatteringly about her for the past two years - kinda setting her up for bigger things on television, not to mention her debut solo album that he's producing for her.

I'm secretly not surprised because Cheryl's a lot younger and prettier, and throughout all these years, Paula's never been really good at giving out advice. It's all really been positive criticism, which I guess balances the other negative ones. But I think we'd like the truth- if you suck, then you suck and shouldn't be given another chance just because you are cute.

It's odd how the Idol format still exists in the U.S.... it's been largely supplanted by X Factor in most other countries.
It'd be something if NBC could pay a huge lump sum for Cowell to opt out of his contract to FOX (and Idol) in order to host (with Cheryl) the US X Factor on NBC. Because he's frankly more animated (and interested) in the proceedings on X Factor and Britains' Got Talent than Idol these days. I think part of the reason is that Simon doesn't have any exclusive signing rights to the contestants who appear on Idol.. whereas he gets first dibs on both his UK shows.
