Revolutionary Road
April and Frank Wheeler are a young, thriving couple living with their two children in a Connecticut suburb in the mid-1950s. Their self-assured exterior masks a creeping frustration at their inability to feel fulfilled in their relationships or careers. Frank is mired in a well-paying but boring office job, and April is a housewife still mourning the demise of her hoped-for acting career. Determined to identify themselves as superior to the mediocre sprawl of suburbanites who surround them, they decide to move to France where they will be better able to develop their true artistic sensibilities, free of the consumerist demands of capitalist America. As their relationship deteriorates into an endless cycle of squabbling, jealousy and recriminations, their trip and their dreams of self-fulfillment are thrown into jeopardy.

What were your thoughts on this film?
I thought the performances, especially the neighbour and Winslet were excellent. The story was extremely intense and painful to watch, yet wretchedly honest.

A soap opera with higher production values - worth watching only for the lead performances. The director, Sam Mendes, has yet to make a good movie.

American Beauty and Road to Perdition are excellent films but perhaps not to your taste. For those who enjoy a well-paced realistic drama, this was it.

Yes, Road to Perdition wasn't bad - certainly Mendes' best film, imho - though American Beauty was more popular, I didn't care for it. Jarhead was outright awful.

Best movie of the year for me. The movie really drew me into the 50's era, and I really felt for Kate Winselt's character.

I thought this movie was excellent. The acting in this movie is superb from both Winslet and DeCaprio. Who I think deserved the Golden Globe. (but thats just a side note). The movie felt raw and real and we've been lacking, films in the theater like this for a while...we have movies about talking dogs and disobedient dogs, number #1,really? When we have Kate and Leo reunited,at last!

Frankly I thought it was kind of boring.
Maybe its because I saw Slum dog, gran torino, ben-buttons, the wrestler,Defiance, frost nixon, Milk and this movie all in 10 days
The only character I really enjoyed was the unrepentant lunatic...
There's word he may be tapped for best supporting actor

Definitely not my type of movie as I can tell by the trailers. I wouldn't bother renting it personally.

Nope, Michael Shannon.
He played his part well, though I would have trouble describing his character as a "lunatic".
However, you can't say Leo didn't play a bit of an unrepentant lunatic in this movie as well. Some of his angry outbursts were unintentionally hilarious. And his character's actions, while understandable in the 50's context, were pretty self destructive.

Being hospitalized for Schizophrenia in the 50's certainly qualifies.
He admits to over 37 shock treatments. he's plain nuts.

Oops, I thought Michael Shannon played the neighbour husband.
This character with schizophrenia seemed too much the typical movie representation of mental illness for my taste - you know, the wise visionary, rather than a realistically ill tormented person. Too Hollywood!

The trailer reminds me of Titanic part 2. If Leo hadn't drowned and they moved to the suburbs, this is how their lives would have turned out.

The first hour of the movie gives you that exact feeling - it was the best part.
