Hi RFDers, I currently have a Diploma in Computer Networking and Technical Support which I received last April 2008 from St. Lawrence College. I am interesting in completing a Degree from Athabasca University. The program I am interested isBachelor of Science in Computing and Information Systems (http://www.athabascau.ca/calendar/page03_21.html)

I know there are some users on this forum that are currently taking some courses from Athabasca University, so I was wondering what is there input?

How is the course load?

Are there PowerPoints (basically summaries of a chapter)?

Any videos of lectures?

How are the professors/tutors?

Any other input/reviews would be greatly appreciated!

do a search and you'll see others asking similar questions (maybe not about your specific program but at least taking courses at athabasca). i myself took a few from there, and i have lots of friends who have as well..
here's my input: doesn't look "as good" as degrees from other universities, HOWEVER a degree is a degree... so if it's how you're gonna do it, then do it. the courses i took were very structured, but i know that some aren't, so it depends on what kind of a scholar you are. do you need set dates that assignements are due? are you self-motivated on your own? will you wait til the last minute to do stuff? i found that the professors were very quick to get back to me via email (i never phoned anyone even though that was an option). i enjoyed my experience, but my degree is from a different school (i just used the courses as enrichment, not as the basis for my degree).
anyway i think it's a good option if you don't live near a school or can't attend during regular hours...

The DE courses at Athabasca are quite good - better than the ones offered at UW.

Overall, I'm happy with most of courses I've taken there.

so one can actually receive their bachelors completely online through this university?
To OP....you think they'll accept all your credits from St. Lawrence college?

Yup, there are several online only universities... but Athabasca U is a public Canadian government (Alberta) funded university with a decent reputation.
