Hey guys, have you ever gotten into a course in which you were waitlisted? If so, what were the enrollment numbers for the course and how far down the list were you? I've been waitlisted on a course with a capacity of 60 students, but I'm way back in #30... =/ Any chance of getting in? I found that one of the new courses I signed up for this semester is completely removed from what I was expecting and this other course that I sat in on looks super interesting. I wish professors would post syllabi a week or two before the start of classes! >=(

depends on the demand of the courses. Usually around next week people flop out of classes and there's usually a pretty big influx of spots, but no guarantees of course.
If you can, start looking at other courses, being #30, it is unlikely 30 people will drop out, with a class size being 60

I've looked (am actually waitlisted on two other courses as well), but unfortunately, my program is small and everything is full. =/ I'm hoping that some of the people ahead of me will take themselves off the waitlist. Fingers crossed! =(

I think you can wait till the WL is removed, then keep checking and hope somebody dropped.

When are the waitlists removed? Do they even get removed? This is the first I've heard of this. Anyway, I believe that the last day for S enrollments is the 18th, so there's not much time. =/

After 2 weeks, if you still dont get in by then, you're out of luck. :|
waitlist #30 for a class of 60... unlikely half the class will drop out in the first 2 weeks...

chances of getting in are slim, but you never know. People may drop out of class + students on the WL before you may just give up which may increase your chance of getting in.

The waitlist does get remove (check registrar for date). After that, its up to you to keep refreshing ROSI every minute and a lot of people usually drop courses late in the night. I have manage to snipe a bunch of courses which includes astronomy, psychology and math classes.

I believe you can also use this after WL is removed.

i believe last day to add S courses is jan18, which is in 2 weeks. wl should be removed then and like others mentioned, its unlikely that 30 will drop out from a class of 60. better look for something else

You're pretty much screwed for that class. I would suggest you start looking (if you haven't already) for a replacement or enter the semester with one less course.

Honestly, I'd be happy to look for other courses and I have, but I'm waitlisted on those ones too (in fact, I'm in position #50 for a couple of them, so it's even worse). The problem is that half of the S courses I could take have been canceled and everything else is full. Canceling all those courses seem a bit ridiculous to me because there's obviously not enough space available in the remaining courses to accommodate all the students. I see no point in taking a course that can't go toward my program requirements. Thank you guys for the heads up on the waitlist removal though! I'll check with my registrar to see when the date for that is.

talk to the prof if you can because I can almost say with 100% certainty that you will not get into the course at #30 and 60 spots.
What program are you in by the way??? Even if you are doing a specialist program or even double major, there is generally room electives.
The course coordinator should be able to override the ROSI and may let you in especially if your in a tough situation (final year and need this credit to graduate).
one of my recent courses had 60 students with about 15 people on the waitlist. near the end of 2 weeks, most of the students dropped themselves off the waitlist leaving 6 left. The prof bypassed ROSI and allowed them into the course.

This isn't my last year, but I'm still a bit disappointed that I'll be short this credit and will have to make up for it later. It's true that I could choose to stay in the course I'm currently in, but I know I'll hate it and figure there's no need to impose 3 and a half months of misery on myself. =)
I talked to the professor, but he said that there's nothing he can do (was he lying? lol). I'll see how it pans out next week.

of course the prof cant do anything about it, its all really 1st come 1st serve. you shouldnt be picking courses this late. what program are you in? if there are no other courses suitable for you, might as well work for the term?

Not all the courses you will take will be toward your program requirments. In fact it's almost impossible for that to happen as you'll complete them over the duration of your stay.
Perhaps consider taking an easier course (GPA boost) or something that is of interest but not related to your program or just not take anything and focus on the classes you're enrolled in currently.

Actually, I switched programs, which means that all those old credits will now be used as my supplementary electives, so I don't have room for extras now.
Good news is, I just got into a fairly interesting course that didn't have a waitlist available! =D

I was there for 1 year when UT implemented the waitlist option. It was chaotic before they had that as I would constantly check online to see if it was open. However, without the waitlist, I was able to get a friend to drop the course (if he/she didn't want it) and I sign up right away.
Being 30 on the waitlist for a class of 60, you're best bet is to find another course that's open or has a smaller waitlist. You're praying that half the class drops the course and that seems VERY unlikely.
