I was looking for some stands for my new surround speakers and found reference to these in some expired posts. These are the same stands as found at monoprice.com. In fact, the box is labelled with Monoprice. Anyway, it is OOS at Monoprice, but it has good reviews.

As I thought the price was good compared to anything at FS or BB (or even Walmart), I thought I'd post it for anyone who is currently looking for speaker stands as well. Quality is pretty good although it won't hold bigger (> 5lb) speakers. The price is $22.87 for a package of 2 stands.
I ordered last night and picked up today from their warehouse in Northeast Mississauga (saved the $15.xx shipping charge).

for a set of 2, it actually says it's $14.40... but i guess if you include shipping, that'll be a lot more. is shipping for these guys only 8 bucks?

Sorry, that's the monoprice.com price in $US. I bought it from onlythebest.com for $22.87 + tax ($CDN). See the second link.

If you want to order online from the only 'best' rated, be very careful. I have a very bad experience with them. Their service is definitely not best rated. Check my post below.

I found this on another site and it says the maximum weight is 5lbs.

I had read your post and it got me worried a bit as well. However, since I was planning on picking it up, I figured I wouldn't have your shipping return problems. I actually opened the box in my car before I left to make sure everything was there. The box was well sealed within a bigger box. The pickup place is a little weird though. It was a warehouse and you have to enter by an unmarked door beside the shipping dock in the back. It didn't have any signs or anything indicating customer pickup.
Anyway for this price it was worth checking into. Not as good a deal if you had to pay for shipping though. I paid $25.84 taxes in.

That's what stopped me from getting these :(
Im sure the weighting is more on the conservative side but still... I went for these wall mount brackets that hold 10Lbs and at $5 for 2... not a bad deal:

The current London Drugs flyer has a similar looking Sonax speaker stands for $9.99 per pair. According to the salesman, they still have 1400 pairs at the warehouse.

The wall mounted brackets look interesting, I might pick up a pair of them for my two rear speakers.
I think my speakers must be heavier than the original stands posted.

These have pretty bad reviews. If you read them you will notice that unless you have tiny speakers and a perfect surface you might not be able to use these stands. Beware.

are you talking about the the one from LD or the one from WM/Monoprice?

Which location did you go to? I've been looking all over and haven't found any speaker stands at WM.

I bought these from OBR (onlybestrated) and picked up from their warehouse. Was the best deal i found. I like the speaker stands.. they are not top quality but if installed right (as per instructions, obviously i missed a couple) ... they are good for that price. The base is heavy which keeps them upright and firm. i have a heavy padded carpet in my basement so they tend to tilt slightly, but i raised the height (yes, it is telescopic) to compensate for the tilt angle.
I would say they are a good buy.

damn... wish we had LD here in ontario... $10 is a great price
I'll order these from OBR for pickup.
Thanks OP and others who contributed to the thread!

I would never touch those Monoprice speakers again. My speakers are not able to loosen to make them more telescopic (higher) and I have to e-mail the company on how to do that, as there's no way I can ship them back. Never buy this type of thing online again.

If you have the same ones I have, you just turn the knob in the middle counterclockwise to loosen. Then adjust to the height you want and tighten again. Maybe you just need to twist harder to loosen it.

That's not going to work. They were tightened too much in the factory, one stand opens easily and nicely and the others are impossible, no matter how much force I use.

try warming it up with a hair dryer and then giving it a try. it might just do the trick for you.

Spike feet?
The base is triangular with a circular weight below it.

Spike feet?
Some heftier speaker stands have spike feet to sit evenly on deep-pile carpet without crushing the carpet down. I have a couple like that.

Thanks OP, I picked up a set (did the self-pickup thing). The base is square, not triangular as the pic would have you believe.

Does anyone know if these will work with the FS polka audio speaker setup? I believe those speakers with subwoofer were around 249 - 199. Someone said they would, but none of the screws in the box work.
Thanks

Anybody? I'd really really really appreciate it...
I should have stuck to the speaker stands at the Brick. This whole deal was not worth the 80 bucks it cost me.
