We are under their " How Did you hear about us" at the check out.
WWW.REDFLAGDEALS.COM BABY! I think we should get special coupons or gift codes since the majority of us buy our cables from them anyways.
I actually mentioned this site to all my friends/colleagues who has PS3/HDTV's... talk about free exposure!

Do I need to buy an HD cable or can I just use the one that I got with the Rogers HD BOX (there are white/red for audio and green/blue/red for HD)??
If I need to buy one, which one should I get from monoprice.com? I have the LN40a530.
Your help is much appreciated.

Yah, now if only the HDMI and Wii cables I ordered on Christmas Eve would get here already! Love monoprice, but I've got a new receiver and blu-ray player sitting in my hall waiting to be hooked up. :)

I bet yours are not too far away. I ordered 2 HDMI cables on Christmas Day, they were shipped on boxing day and I received them today.

Go to Real Canadian Superstore (Loblaws) and pick up cables there. I got 6ft HDMI cables for $9.99 each.
Hint, they're listed as PS3 accessories.
I also saw a Component PS3 connections with an extra USB cable for $7.99. (This was the Don Mills & Eglinton location)

To be frank, I have not seen any differences between component inputs and HDMI. Potentially on longer cable runs you could see some degradation but I have not see it. Like the guy for ING says: Save your money!

I don't know where to find these. I've looked at Lowblaw Superstore across Scarborough Town Centre, but couldn't find them.

Placed dozens of orders from monoprice (mostly for work). Majority were fine. A few shipments were defective and monoprice customer service was sub-par (to say the least). I try to avoid monoprice these days but still do a few orders each month.

I ordered my HDMI cable from this vendor on Amazon. It was like 3.99 CDN + shipping. It works fine.

I didn't see them in my local Loblaws....it's only in the RCSS store (it has a much bigger electronics area)

monoprice used to be one of the cheapest places you can get hdmi cables and stuff like that.
now that local stores and other online vendors such as amazon.ca, dealxtreme sells it for cheap too, i wouldn't call monoprice a 'cheap' place to get hdmi cables.
I got a hdmi cable for $5 shipped from amazon a few weeks ago. (search expired deals for details)
with the shipping fees, it would cost me about $10-$12 for ONE hdmi cable from monoprice. For quality-wise, sure monoprice is trusted for sure. but im sure almost all 1.3a hdmi will work flawlessly as well. I'm sure it's easy enough to buy one eslewhere for less than $10 nowadays and you don't have to wait so long for their shipping.
just my opinion:)
either way, if you planning on buying more than one cable and not in a rush AND wait for their daily deals to save another $2-3, monoprice is probably still the best bet.

I'll have to check when I get home tonight....I'm pretty sure that it was either 1.3 or 1.3a
edit: I stand corrected - they are 1.2

Loblaws in Pickering had 1 last week for $9.99 but it was 1.2. Wasn't sure at the time what the difference was so I passed.
I have since read about the difference, 1.3 is better but very few if any home devices use 1.3 standard. nost use 1.2 standard.
I paid more than double for a heavier cable but next time I'd probably go for the cheaper one.
FYI - Wally world Pickering has a 2 pack of HDMI cables for $3o if you can't find them at Loblaws or RCSS.

Back right of the store (when walking in) by the photo lab but they only had 1 last week and it wasn't the $9.99 one, $15 I think.

I like HDMI cause it cleans up the cable mess. Only one cable is needed.
I do not have a video switching amp so I do run an optical cable to my amp.

Is there really any difference between the cables? I thought that the differences were in the communication protocols used. A wire is a wire.

I still think there are too many monoprice sheep on RFD. Mention hdmi in any thread and you get everyone trying to outsmart the OP by mentioning monoprice.
There appears to be no love for blue jean cables either. Similar low prices to monoprice but better quality, and they're very straight about telling you what quality you're paying for.

Not sure what cables you've bought or looked at, but taking a quick look at a 6ft, Category 2, 28AWG HDMI cable, it's 16.25 including s&h at bluejeans vs. 8.69 at monoprice. Those prices really aren't "similar" IMO.
I don't think people are "monoprice sheep" on this board. It's just that there doesn't seem to be a comparable source for HDMI (and other) cables that combines such good prices with a pretty good record of quality (based on user feedback). Everyone brings up monoprice because everyone has concluded pretty much the same thing - it's the best place to buy this stuff, and that's exactly the kind of information that's supposed to be shared at RFD. If there's somewhere better, I'm sure we'd all love to hear about it, otherwise we might as well keep telling everyone where the best deals are.

Place an order with them a few days ago with USPS shipping. Anyone know how long it will take approximately?

Man monoprice shipping is pretty expensive! Three HDMI 6ft cables costs $8 to ship?? That's like two-thirds the cost of the cable themselves! :(

with the warning up on the site now, i'll say don't expect them anytime soon.
I ordered from them a few month back, when they didn't even put any warning/notice up, it took like a month. (approx 20 business days to be exact)

Shipping price is based on weight, not the cost of the item.. $8 to send approx. 2lbs from California to Canada is pretty reasonable to me

Don't know if this has been mentioned yet or not, either way, its worth a repeat.
From multiple orders most RFD'ers will tell you if you keep your order around $20-25 you will often get away with no duty charged.
Otherwise, duty will run somewhere from $8-12 additional on delivery if your order is between $25-50, from my experiences.
Your best bet is to fill an order of cables with other people you know but cut it off at the $20-25 mark to get the best bang for your buck.
At least that's the way I see it.
