Theire entire selection is pretty random. I can't see this really taking off until they are able to provide the same selection, on the same release dates as the local Rogers or Blockbuster have the movies on DVD. Blockbuster has launched a similar service in the US. I wonder if it will come to Canada any time soon.

If it cost less than renting a DVD and I didn't have to leave the house to pick-up and return, I would definitely use a service like this.

I believe they can't do that because it has something to do with the studios wanting money up front or something like that. The VP of finance at Rogers was talking about it at a meeting (when I used to work there), but as usual I was half asleep http://**************/img/1856/y08m1110mhmd/2.gif

I think it is just a matter of time before the studios will have to change with the times. As broadband use increases and connected devices like gaming consoles become more prevalent, in-store DVD rentals will begin to decline. Managed electronic distribution will ultimately save the studios big bucks and be more convenient for consumers.

Xbox Live marketplace is also renting Movies at a higher price. They have current releases in both 720p and 480p. The prices are on par with video rentals and On-demand titles. You get to keep the content for 14 days. Of course you need a Xbox360 to use it. I don't have a blue ray player and will probably get my HD content from Xboxlive.

I could be wrong but, I thought the Xbox gives you 14 days to use the content from purchase, but once you watch it -- you have 24 hours.

I thought the vast majority of HD content on Live is US only?
