View Full Version : Food [Merged] McDonalds "Buy One Get One" - $4 for two Big Macs [need coupon]

princessJ
Jan 5th, 2009, 09:14 PM
I saw this on a commercial. I don't know if it starts now or whatnot, but the commercial stated $4 for two Big Macs. I'm guessing this is a limited time offer.

A normal Big Mac was $4 for ONE.. so I guess its a hot deal, depending if you're into them or not.

Calories: 540 Kcal / 1 Big Mac

Have fun and don't eat too much :-0

EDIT: Deal is correct, but you need the coupon (which you get in the mail). Deal is also for several other sandwiches (its a Buy one get one free coupon).

If you don't remember the channel, then I'm willing to bet it's a US ad. Usually when we see fast food ads that are that good of a deal, it would be US only.

When most people talk about calories they are referring to kilocalories. ie. a typical 3000 calorie diet is actually a 3 000 000 calorie diet, strictly speaking.

Where did I say one serving? The typical recommended diet for an adult male is somewhere near 3000 kcal. or 3 million calories. 1 cal is equal to the amount of energy required to heat up one milliliter of water by 1 degree.

A big reason I think you will never see amazing fast food deals in Canada is we use a lot more sugar. In the USA, sugar is almost always replaced with the heavily subsidized, and thus much cheaper high fructose corn syrup.

A recent study of Wendy's in USA found that every single item on the menu had a corn ingredient of some sort.

The price difference between the two sugars is quite shocking, and makes junk food 1/10th the price per calorie then natural foods.

Not to mention the hefty costs associated with switching to trans fat free oil as many chains have voluntarily done.

It's not that sugar is much more expensive in Canada, I believe, but that sugar is much more expensive in the States.

Anyway, 1 kcal = 1 Calorie = 1000 calories. That's it.

I'd love to see it but I highly doubt it. McD's is actually doing quite well with their crappy $1.39 mini-burgers so there really is no need to revert back to a $1.49 or $1.69 large sandwich. I respect BK for still offering a respectable sandwich for under $2 when everyone else has dropped their daily specials.

Canada McDs is so expensive. Cheapest is China. Cheapest in the "free world" is Hong Kong I believe.

Even the US is cheaper. I had a double filet o'fish - yes double - for $1 USD. With the combo it came to $3.99. With tax it was $4.07 or something.

Just a filet combo here will cost like $5 something. and they can't even add a filet.

Your memory is foggy. It was 2 big macs and 2 small fries for $2. And yes, it was the most insane deal ever. I've never seen the McDonalds near UW as packed as it was for those 2 weeks. I must have had about 20 big macs during that time. It was a university student's dream.

I get Big Macs for $1.39+0.25+tax all the time by just getting their double cheese and telling them to dress it like a mac.

Some places well just pretty much give you a Big Mac in a double cheese wrapper, while some will try to scam you out the middle bun - but you can just ask for the middle bun and you'll get it for free (they don't have a button to charge you anything other than for the 'dress like' or 'mac sauce').

Enjoy your loophole Big Mac at about a third of the cost of an actual one.

A big reason I think you will never see amazing fast food deals in Canada is we use a lot more sugar. In the USA, sugar is almost always replaced with the heavily subsidized, and thus much cheaper high fructose corn syrup.
What's funny is that pretty much all pop (soda) is sweetened with corn syrup in the US, while it's sweetened with sugar in Canada. (Incidentally, this is why Coca-Cola here says "Original Taste" and in the US it says "Original Formula"). However pop still seems to be cheaper in Canada despite this, which always led me to believe HFCS was more expensive than sugar

It's not that sugar is much more expensive in Canada, I believe, but that sugar is much more expensive in the States.

Anyway, 1 kcal = 1 Calorie = 1000 calories. That's it.

Exactly. To clarify, no one ever talks about calories in terms of true calories. The word "Calories" on food packaging and labels always uses a large "C" for the word (unless they actually use "kcal"), which means the same as kilocalories. The unit of calories is just too small to be used practically.

This is so much better! Saw this @ McDonalds By Military Road, Niagara.

Only in America is a meal that can feed 4-6 people marketed as a meal for 2.
LOL. They've actually had that 40 nuggets/2 lg fries deal in Western New York for the last 5 years or more. The thing is with the US nuggets I would say they are about .75x the size of ours, so 20 is more like 15 of ours; however their medium fries are like our large fries, and the large is therefore bigger than our large, so you're getting more fries. It's still a great deal no matter how you slice it but yeah it should feed like 3-4 people, not two!

might as well get 2 double cheeseburgers for 1.39$ each. probably the same mass of one big mac.
Nah the Big Mac has sesame seeds, and has a middle bread so I think the Mac outweighs it. However the double cheeseburger has two pieces of cheese instead of one which means more trans fat. Of course the Mac has it's sauce so it gets extra fat from there as well.

But this is all OT nonsense really. Why has this gone on for 6 pages with people just chatting about McDonald's and no one has yet confirmed this deal?

Jan 6th, 2009, 10:02 AM

The front page had a big $36 in savings written on it.

Will add a picture later if I can. There are a lot of deals in there but the one that sticks out is the Buy 1 get 1 free offer on signature sandwiches such as Bigmacs etc.

Hey guys just checked my mailbox and received a page full of coupons from McD's

The front page had a big $36 in savings written on it.

Will add a picture later if I can. There are a lot of deals in there but the one that sticks out is the Buy 1 get 1 free offer on signature sandwiches such as Bigmacs etc.

If you like McD's or dont have a choice then this is your calling.

Hate McD's? Well then this deal is irrelevant for you.
Mine had $31 in savings.

Yeah, that was a lot better promo...I got the coupons and just did the 2 McGriddles B1G1. Came to $2.90 with taxes. Wouldn't pay more than $1.45 for that in the first place, though.

in toronto, the coupons say buy one large sandwich and a medium/large fries and get second sandwich free.

+1. that sucks. not such a hot deal anymore when you factor in the cost of a medium fries... not to mention the extra calories! cold!

Jan 7th, 2009, 11:33 AM
I saw this on a commercial. I don't know if it starts now or whatnot, but the commercial stated $4 for two Big Macs. I'm guessing this is a limited time offer.

A normal Big Mac was $4 for ONE.. so I guess its a hot deal, depending if you're into them or not.

Calories: 540 Kcal / 1 Big Mac

Have fun and don't eat too much :-0

EDIT: Deal is correct, but you need the coupon (which you get in the mail). Deal is also for several other sandwiches (its a Buy one get one free coupon).

Calories: 540 Kcal / 1 Big Mac
oh get the double cal.:cheesygri

Guys,

This is my personal deal I use all the time:

1. Order the 2 x McValue dbl cheeseburgers (aprx 1.69??)

2. Ask for it to be dressed up like a big mac, they may charge you anywhere from 10 to 25 cents depending of store

3. Skip the fries, since you are getting 2 items

4. Get a glass of water

This will cost you under 4$ with taxes.

Enjoy!
Sergio

1998 if I'm correct. Probably one of the last times I went to a McDonalds under my own free will also.I remember those days. I use to work at a video game store and my co-worker and I would head up the street to pick up a bunch of them for lunch. I always had trouble getting through the second one but it was a good deal.

Then there's this guy who has eaten 1 Big Mac a day since 1972. (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26623057/)

No wonder everyone is becoming overweight. :(Fast food is easy, quick and cheap. That's why we have North Americans getting obese.

http://calorielab.com/news/wp-images/post-images/big-mac-evolution.jpgIt's not all that strange. A buddy of mine use to order a "Monster Burger" from A&W that was 8 patties back in the 90s. I actually watched him down one of those. Supposedly, A&W also had an "Animal Burger" that was 5 patties and way back in the 70s, a "Zombie Burger" that was 12 patties.

I believe you can still get those at some A&Ws as long as the manager knows about them.

OP should change the title. It's not 2 for $4. That is a USA promo. Coupons are in Canada and require a BigMac purchase WITH medium fries to get a second BigMac free. This is super lame, they started doing this about a year ago with the coupons.

I agree the better deal is to order the double cheeseburger and say 'dress it like a Mac'. You'll get an almost-mac burger for aprox $1.69.

Or you could just not buy McDonalds and cook your own better burgers at home.

So..... I have coupons I received in the mail in the last 2 days from BK, McD and Subway. These are Quebec coupons and the one from Subway is in french only. Thing is, I`m off to Niagara Falls for the weekend and wonder if these coupons are respected in Ontario.

Does anyone have any experiance in trans-border coupons ? I have my planned restaurants reserved with my wife but my kids prefer fast food.

might as well get 2 double cheeseburgers for 1.39$ each. probably the same mass of one big mac.

actually it is more, much more. If u ask for a double cheese dressed like a mac, the only differance is no seasame seeds and a middle piece of bread but u still get 2 peices of cheese, ur paying 1$ more for that in a mac. Now they find people are raping the system so mcdonalds introduced the DLM. its a sandwich on its own that is more expensive than a double cheese dressed like a mac, but with only 1 piece of cheese... dont order it.

I don't really like the hamburgers at McDonald's.
There's a nice place in Midland in the Mountainview Mall, called Teddy's and they make their own hamburgers from scratch.
They are REALLY good! You can ask them to put tomato slices, pickles, onions, etc. on it (as much as you want within reason I suppose).

Solution:

Double Cheeseburge
add lettuce, tomato and big mac sauce.

= $1.69. Two of these makes for a mean meal. All....year....long.

Good luck with the heart disease.

This is pretty much what I do.. i order the double cheese value meal and add mac sauce, comes to like $4.57 for a meal! and i'm okay with 1 less piece of bread, less cals and carbs!

You guys in Ontario get hosed on the BOGO coupons, because you need to buy fries as well, which totally kills the deal.

All, or most, of the other provinces get the same looking coupons, but it's straight up BOGO - no fries required.

When most people talk about calories they are referring to kilocalories. ie. a typical 3000 calorie diet is actually a 3 000 000 calorie diet, strictly speaking.

Umm, I don't think this is right. There is no frickin' way anyone is gonna believe in a 3 million calorie diet! If you are notating 3K Calories, then that is reasonable.

Parth
Jan 10th, 2009, 03:39 AM
No, (s)he is right. When you see a snack that says 100 Calories, they actually mean 100 kilocalories. But no one likes dealing with numbers like 100,000 calories, so some jerk way back when decided he was just going to say 100 calories instead of the correct 100 kilocalories. And so by convention, on food products, however many calories is actually the number of kilocalories. So when someone says your diet should consist of 2000 calories, they actually mean 2000 kilocalories.

Go to Burger king on Wednesday and buy a whopper for 1.89 ( king deal of the week) get your receipt, call the 1-800 # on the back of your receipt and do the 5 min survey and the next time you go in you get a free whopper when you buy a small drink and small fries, will cost you under $4 and you get the receipt and you can do it all over again and again and again and again. This is a great deal as you get lunch for under $4 which includes a whopper and fries or a salad and a drink.
