I am cheap person, never think about paying 2K for a laptop. When my friend asked for suggestion to buy a laptop for her daughter in University, I have no idea at all. Here is the requirement:
1. light weight (<3lbs)
2. speed (fast boot and fast processing)
3. long battery power (>6 hours)
4. Stylish
5. screen not too small (>9")
To meet the 1&3, I can only consider the notebook/netbook with SSD only. 32GB or 64GB is big enough for a student's daily homework. Also the screen has to between 10-12 inch.
Any comments are welcome. Thanks

A netbook w/ >6 hours, 10" , ssd and for cheap r real tough.
Since u said it is for a university girl, a 9" netbook should be sufficient and if the #1 goal is cheap w/ssd, get the 8gb ssd acer one (if possible try to get it w/6 cell or else just get a spare aftermarket battery)
Then since the acer one has 2 card readers just grab a couple of cheap 8-16gb flash memory cards, there for giving u access to 24-40gb of ssd storage, which is around the same as many stock ssd netbooks.
Total cost should be around $375.
Get it in Pink...styish too. :)
Also if u can wait, the new 10" acer one should be out soon.
Thanks for ur quick response. I am cheap, but not my friend. Budget for this laptop is 2k.
And the girl has beautiful big eyes, she said the smallest screen she would accept is 10"...

lenovo x200 would meet most of your requirement, if not all of your requirement.

I was going to suggest the Dell Inspiron Mini 12, but apparently it doesn't have an SSD option. Shame cuz it looks amazing.
You can get an Asus EEE 1000 with a 40GB SSD. Not particularly thin, but it fits most of your other requirements.
