vista dell gb eater?

I just bought a dell vista computer and bought it with 500gb when I got it I was suprised to see that it showed I had 450gb of 432gb! so I really do have 500gb it says that in the inside of my computer but I only got 432gb to use when I installed my computer? and thats not the worst part. For some reason my hardrive info keeps changing. I had 418gb last week and without doing nothing it went to 416? then I installed limewire which shouldn'y take much space and without downloading anything in limewire I looked at my hardrive and it said I have now 412? Does anyone know why it's doing this?

My dell vista laptop can show 10 GB left of free space one day and can change to 4 GB of free space the next day without me doing anything too. It's really weird.
