Hey guys, I just wanted your opinion on these two tvs. The 530 has a posted contrast ratio of 12000:1 but there are people who say its posted as 20000:1 on the box. The differences between the a530 and the 500 are as follows:

500 - 20000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, no s-video, no side panel inputs, 40" screen.

530 - 12000:1 dynamic contrast ratio (possibly 20000:1), s video input, side panel inputs, 37" screen.

Assuming there is a $20 difference between the two televisions (500 being $720 and 530 being $699) which would be the better tv?

Thanks for the opinions guys!

My question is, where are you getting this price of $720 for a LN40A500? that seems like the sweeter deal for the extra 3".

I don't know how good those contrast values are, but when I turn on DNIe on my Samsung A450 series TV before, it made a lot of stuff look radioactive/glowing/neon... so that was kinda useless... unless I turned down brightness and contrast anyway. I guess it still looks more vibrant with DNIe on and brightness and contrast lowered, but it's kinda gimmicky.

I wouldn't cheap out on buying a TV, unless the TV is used in the kitchen or garage.

I was able to snag an open box LN40A500 when it came in, it was literally brand new sealed everything but it was labelled open box at Futureshop :P
