IDE Hard Drives and CDROMs to SATA Motherboard

My old computer died, so I bought a new one. I have two IDE hard drives and a CD/DVD drive from my old computer that I would like to add to this one, but my new motherboard only has SATA connections. See below:

The only free slots I see are:
- 1 floppy connector (?!?)
- 1 PCI Express (x16)
- 2 PCI Express (x1)
- 1 PCI
- several USB slots

I figure the easiest thing to do would be to get a external hard drive enclosure and put one of the IDE drives into it, but that would only get one hard drive. I can live without adding another CD/DVD drive, so that isn't a priority.

Alternatively, I have heard that they make IDE controllers that you can put into your PCI slot, but I wonder how many devices it could handle.

Anyone have any suggestions?

an adapter card would work too, they can handle as many devices as it supports.

I asume its a new full pc right that already has a hard drive in it ??

your only option might be to throw it in a external enclosure which isn't a bad thing at all. But have to say that it kinda seems pointless to throw ide technoligy into a sata controled drive enviorment.

The other thing you have to be shure about is IF your new system has the molex connectors to connect to the ide stuff as well, Dell seems to like to make all there new econo box's with sata power connections only. buggers :twisted:

Only thing is that you have one PCI slot, which you may need later. You can get PCIe SATA+IDE cards, but these generally have only one IDE connector, so you can only use two IDE devices. Mind you, SATA DVD writers are cheap.

The IDE-SATA convertors are a waste of money, in my opinion, seeing as you'll need three of them. You may as well just get an IDE PCI card.
