I was at a house party - so just the usual friends having fun pics - nothing worth posting since its a bit personal. But looking forward to yours though? We watched the countdown in HD on TV though, looked packed per usual with people at the front being trapped and can't get out, not even for the call of nature, lol!

Nothing really special but didn't lug my DSLR with me and only my P&S so it was just group pictures.

"You have come to fight as free men, and free men you are! What will you do with that freedom?" (We will run, so we will live.) "Aye, run you may, and you might live...at least for a little while. And many years from now, as you lay dying in your own bed, would you give it all just for one chance, just ONE chance to come back here and tell the English, that you may take our lives, but you'll never take...OUR FREEEEDOM??!"

HEY! That sounds like me! LOL

I arrived at 10PM, went around the crowd to the left all the way up front ;)
All shot with a Canon EOS XTi, with an older Tamron 18-200mm 3.6 - 6.3, on Manual, with constant shutter speed of 1/80 secs, ISO 1600, with different apertures due to zooming.

You dont know how hard it was to record Danny Fernandes' performance in the left hand with a digicam, and randomly shoot pictures with my XTi with my right. LOL

When they gave out the balloons, it annoyed me so much, even though i was at the front, people kept waving the balloons and i couldn't take any pictures

Nice pics! I like the perspective, its interesting. I was near the sectioned off area where the BT guys were broadcasting from, right up against the fence. I got to shake Kevin's hand. :cheesygri I have a few pics of them, and one or two of the stage. Still editing, most are underexposed to stop motion.

Who did you see with the DSLRs? Perhaps it was...me. Description?

I noticed that too. Note to: guy1 with Bogen tripod, D70/80 with grip, some silver Nikon with a 80-200; and guy2 with D80/90, 85mm and 50mm, I want to see your pics.

Kasakato, your pics look really good. =O

What did you use to shoot?
How'd you get such still pics?!

There was so much people i couldn't even stand still for a second, despite a slow shutter speed and lack of space to hold my cam steady!

Thanks!

I used the D40 with the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 for the short, and the Nikon 70-300 VR f/4.5-5.6 for the long.

I ended up underexposing all pictures by up to 2 stops. Exposure was increased in Lightroom, fill light was added, and curves were adjusted for all pictures. My technique was to shoot wide open, and use a shutter of 1/30 for most. I took bursts of 3, praying one would be sharp.

Finding a good angle was tricky. I'm pretty short and the people in front of me were tall so I ended up on my toes for most shots. I tracked the subject in the viewfinder for 10 seconds at a time and if an opening between peoples heads was found, I locked focus and snapped away.

i saw an asian guy with a black jacket holding either a d40/d60 close to the fries stand, then there was this one guy who was close to me with an xti and a 70-200mm lens <-- i was staring at his lens the whole guitar solo :(

but when i was running for my life i saw an older man with a monopod and what i thought was a 40d ( he was on the right side of the ice rink) and i also saw a whole lot of xti's.

Nice pics! So, are you shooting in RAW and at the same time underexposing by up to 2 stops? ... Just curious as I am a newbie and haven't read about this technique before. What is the advantage of underexposing on your DSLR and then fixing (increasing) the exposure in lightroom? Also, are you using a monopod or tripod for the shots?

Everything was done hand held. Cant imagine trying to get a tri or even a mono pod in the area. I barely had enough room to breath. :cheesygri

I ended up underexposing to help stop motion. For example, at 1/80 people would remain motion blur free, but would appear dark. In post I added 1.5-2 stops of light to bring out the details. While I could have shot 1/50 and got a proper exposure, doing so would allow for blurry heads. I'm sure pros would never have this problem with some f/2.8 glass. With a f/4.5-5.6, anything helps. Ill post up a screen shot of LR.

Hmmm, underexposing and 3 shots... i should try such.
I lack any image stabilization lens though :(

It was too cold to even press the shutter button for me :D

Thanks Kasakato! I would have never thought of doing that technique. That is very helpful. I will keep that in mind the next time I need to "stop" motion and don't have a fast lens with me.
