Anyone else build there own? I based mine off this wiring diagram.

http://cline-company.com/blog/?p=20

I used a old LPT printer cable end for housing and a switch and press button, just soldered it. Its kinda ugly cuz the metal plate where the buttons are mounted slip without the duct tape.
EDIT:Redit it and used Krazy Glue so I could forgo the duct tape

Switch is for bulb, and press button is for shutter. This is for my Canon XS

oooh ya, with my XTI I made like a 30-40FT one, setup the camera right next to a bird feeder and sat comfortably in the kitchen looking at the window. Got come great shots that looked like I used a 500mm lens to get :D

Is this the same plug as a 1/8 stereo jack?

If I get the shutter from deal extreme can I use head phone extention to make the cord longer?

(I have a G10 which has the headphone looking jack for its remote shutter interface.)

Yeah its a headphone jack. I dunno if its 1/8th though but its the one slightly smaller than the standard headphone jack. Yeah you could possibly use an extension cable yes

Ya, I made one for the 300D but my 30D has a different connector for some reason. Why does Canon do that?

Then I got bored and made one that does timed shots and light sensitive shots (lightning) and anything else I could think of, which wasn't much. I sold my 300D just about the time I finished that, and it didn't work for very long with an unregulated 3v battery and a 3.3v microcontroller.

What else you could do is; get the hands-free headphone for cellphones from a dollar store, switch to bulb mode on the camera. There is usually a call end button on it. keep it pressed, connect it to your camera and whenever you are ready to take a shot just let it go and it will take the shot for as long as you want. To cancel just press the button again and unplug.
I tried it with canon xs and it works perfectly:)

Looks good for cameras with a remote release port. If you have a camera that doesn't have a remote release adapter, you can a manual release that actually physically pushes the shutter button through a cable release, including half-pressed focusing.

Check out the one that fits over the hot-shoe:
