I picked up the Lexar at FS on boxing day instead of the 16GB Kingston because I was told high-speeds are important for cameras. Is the difference in speed really noticeable? I plan to use it for the Canon XS btw.

He didn't test the Kingston class 4, but the Kingston class 6 is slower in an XSi than the Lexar 60X.

Is this slowdown significant though? What I'm really trying to ask is, does the increase in speed make up for the decrease in storage space?

For a Rebel Xs I doubt you'd notice any slowdown at all, the Xs is not a fast camera to begin with so really it's just a matter if how much space you want. With an 8GB card you'll be able to get over 2500+ jpgs of the highest resolution so in all honesty why even worry about getting a 16GB? It's not like you'll be using the Xs for pro use so I highly doubt you'll come close to filling up the 8GB. The speed difference between the 2 cards isn't worth the worry, imo. For the Xs, the 16GB is overkill
