Hey guys, I'm thinking of getting a cellphone for myself and I'm leaning towards getting the Samsung A736. Does anyone on RFD happen to have one? Any feedback for or against it?
I won't be getting a smart phone so I'd be open to suggestions for other phones (With Rogers).
TIA,

one of my family members has this model (A736). It's not bad for a basic phone although I don't think its noise reduction is that good. When making a phone call, the caller at the other end can easily hear your surroundings. Not that great if you're in a noisy environment all the time.
In terms of receiving call quality, there's this characteristic hissing noise present. After a few month, that family member is getting a bit annoyed with it. It's basically the same noise that you get when you plug in headphones into a laptop and put your volume on max without playing anything.
To be fair, a lot of different phones have this issue. My nokia N95 has this hissing sound issue too although it's not as bad. I think we just have sensitive ears lol.
Its OS is what you'd expect from an entry level samsung phone. I don't like the icons etc in the phone but what can you do.
Overall, it's a decent phone with no real bells and whistles. What I like about the phone though is that even after dropping it a few times, the phone is still working fine with no evidence of scratches. It's also pretty simple to use.
I personally didn't like the A516 *at all*. One of the rogers reps suggested it to me but I returned it within a few minutes. Not only did I not like the design of the phone, I didn't like the call clarity as well. I guess I'm very picky with phones lol.

Price range would be from the $0 phones they offer to about $80
I haven't had any experience with the A516, so I'm open to anything
I don't mind having the flip, slider, or bar. Plus I won't be needing voicemail, caller id or any accessories.

Thanks a lot for the heads up, I doubt I'll get that one.

^the k850 also runs for $0 at the source I believe. Why not look into that? I loved the voice quality and the battery life wasn't bad either. The only issue is that its touch buttons have died on people in the cold. I had no such issues when I was using it though. I did end up returning the k850 in order to get the n95 since I wanted to try out the symbian OS. I wasn't disappointed to say the least :P

Anything on the Samsung F406? The buttons on the A736 seemed bigger to me when I was holding it.

The thing that the baseline Samsungs have is Stellerly big buttons, and huge onscreen characters, for people elderly, far sighted, or just plain like BIG buttons.
Don't forget the x426 was a SOLID tank back in the day, these A516's and such are replacements and such. I don't see them being inferior to any other low-end phone out there. Keep in mind, if the phone is quad-band it should have decent RF.
Flagship $0 phones are always going to be with a required Vision/Data promo pkg + 3yr contract.
