My mom's friend's son is conning my mom into getting a TELUS phone and plan that's WAY beyond her means.

She currently has the Talk $20/200 PCS plan, which she currently pays for $20 (less service charges) for 200min anytime minutes and voicemail, and she's long past her contract so month by month now. Her average monthly bill is around $30 (inc taxes, 911 and system access fee). She never ever went past 200 minutes a month in the last 5 years talk time, and never had or needed an evening or weekend plan either. The phone is for on the road convenience only.

So this guy talks into a blackberry pearl on a 3 year plan, a "Your Choice 25" plan (with free eve and weekends selected), and a "Bundle 20" to have call display.

My mom doesn't even know how to text, and checks her email on her computer. She's old FFS.

Now, she doesn't want to dammage any relationship she has with her friend, and is sort of committed to improving her plan with the shady son.

After a long heated talk with my mom, and finally broker it down that her bill will got from $30-35 a month to $70, with a possiblility of going over the crappy new 150 minutes vs the 200 she has now.

All she needs is caller-id. Honestly.

Anyone know how much is to simply add caller-ID only to her plan. Her phone is fine.

And if she feels like she has to sign up with a plan for a free phone she doesn't need, what's the cheapest for a simple phone, 200 min, caller-id and vmail?

sorry I may have posted this 2x, I didn't know there was a sub-thread.

$7/month to add caller ID.

If your mom has been with telus for 5 years or so I am sure she is eligible for a discount on a phone, and should be ABLE TO PICK UP A BASIC ONE FOR UNDER $50.

agreed w/ the post above mine.
but the problem is with data devices bought from the providers....
they force you to get a data plan along with it...i think some people can get it waived....but you really have to talk to them.
otherwise...PCS phones should be your option.
check telus' website for the phones available.
