Hello Fellow Rfders,

So I'm in the market for a new set of Front load washer and dryer. I was looking at this one on BD at Future Shop.. http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=BDL10002592&CMP=ILC-Clicks_From_Flyer_Pages&langid=EN

Looks like there are some good reviews of it but I'd like to get some input from my fellow rfders out there.

How much is shipping usually:?:
And installation cost:?:
Should I order instore or online:?:

I'd appreciate for some good Rfd input.

Thanks.

Hi,

I plan to buy this combo at FS too. I tried with another washer/Dryer and it seems to cost 55$ to ship to my place. They won't help you to install the Washer/Dryer. And as it's 2000 nationwide... I think it will be a better bet to buy this online.

It's just my tough...

I think it's a great deal!

Merry Chrismas.

It's a really good deal, I bought it myself from Futureshop in March/April for $1400.. and I know someone else who purchased it about 2 months ago for $1200.

Futureshop usually charges $50-60 for shipping and installation, or at least they did when I bought it in-store. (The sales person made notes, and when they delivered they also stacked my washer and dryer for me with the stacking kit and installed all the hoses and dryer vents if they're all ready to go.

If they need to make any modifications, they won't do it for you, but at the very least, they unpacked everything and put it into place.

I don't need a washer and dryer until Aug 09 until the new home is built. Should I pick up this pair now? Or will there be better deals later on?

I plan to spend a max of ~$1500 for something in the 3.5-4 cu/ft washer.

How does the Samsung set compare to the LG pair going for $1199?

Thanks!!

we bought this when we moved in our house in october. Paid about 1150 in july. Its an awesome set...I would buy it for sure if you need a washer dryer. My brother has a 3000$ set, and the only diff really is that it holds a little more stuff.

We have a newborn and wash all the time, so we don't have much stuff each time, so size was a non-issue.

Thanks for all the replies guys... but another few questions...

1. Have anyone bought washer/dryer sets on boxing day before??.. I wanna confirm the delivery and most importantly if they'll install it for you or not. I hope they won't try to rob us on shipping cuz it's BD.

2. Do they remove and take old washer/dryer:?:

3. 3.6 cu ft washer... seems kinda small to me.. does this thing have probs doing larger loads??.. queen side comforters and heavy towels:?:

Thanks all.... wonder if I should head to the store for this or purchase online...hmmmm.

This set for $979 seems like a heck of a good deal. And from what I've seen, the days of cheap appliances and electronics at near USD prices are ending. But despite all that, I would say don't buy appliances too far in advance.

I've done exactly that, and it was a mistake every time. I bought some just before China and the price of steel went up, I figured I was smart and every appliance retailer was forecasting huge price increases. As it turned out, that didn't happen. In fact when the currency exchange rate changed appliances were selling 20-30% less than my Boxing Day 'deals'.

But even putting aside the issue of money, storing and re-moving these appliances will be a pain. They could get damaged during storage or moving. If you do find a problem later on, the seller could say it happened during your moving and storage.

And sorry to say but your possession date will probably be late, and it's inevitable that there will be some size issue, misfit or other problem. There always is.

I had a range where the inlet didn't match what the gasfitter put in. Because I bought the range so far in advance, I ended up having to pay to resolve the problem, whereas if I'd just purchased it that month, I could have just done an easy exchange.

Think too about styles and features. Once I bought stainless steel appliances and paid a big premium, now they are pretty much standard. Another time I went with gas range just before induction cooktop became trendy and more affordable.

You might end up having to sell off perfectly good appliances at 60 cents on the dollar (like I did) simply cause they didn't fit. Beware, buyers of non-new items always low-ball you I'm afraid.

On top of that, a good chunk of warranty period will be wasted. And if something's wrong the first time you turn it on, prepare for the manufacturer to be less helpful and suspicious as to why you are reporting a shipping 10 months after delivery. The retailer and store are most helpful with duds in the first 30 days or so, since they know you can just back out. But after that initial period, you may get a lesser priority or level of assistance.

It might work out for you, but I would say the down side risks of buying appliances that far in advance are too much.

This could work is if the seller lets you (a) pay now, and deliver the appliances later and (b) back out of the deal if things change.

Even with this arrangement there's risk. I learned the hard way that Canada's biggest appliance distributor (Camco) doesn't actually set aside your appliances if you order them for later delivery. They just sell 'em and can run out when the model year ends. They'll substitute you for a somewhat equivalent set, but in my experience, the makers are chopping features and quality, not increasing. So my substitution units weren't as good as the ones I originally ordered.

I think I've said enough to convey my opinion... I wouldn't buy appliances way in advance like this... it might work out but it's just as likely to backfire.

Actually I did some snooping around too and was at Samsungs site and it does say that the WF203AN Series is 3.6 cu ft.

I've also seen an old 2007 Samsung site Cached WF203ANW as 3.4 cu ft

I'm quite confused here but it seems like the 2007 model is 3.4cu fit and the ones made in 2008 is 3.6 cu ft???

So confused here as the current Samsung site says that it's 3.6 cu ft...

Really though I don't think .2 of a cubic foot would be a deal breaker for me, I mean what is that, an extra pair of socks I guess, if that? I'm just trying to decide if I can justify spending $1000 to replace a perfectly working top load washer/dryer set. :/

The LG set's washer is direct drive instead of belt driven. So I'm looking at the LG set myself.

My concern is setting delivery dates etc, you put your order in and they email you a delivery date? What if I want to delay my delivery a few months. Any one have any experience in buying appliances online?

Gas dryers are more rare and not likely to go on sale as much - I don't think Samsung even makes gas dryers in Canada.

I have heard that because the front loaders get rid of so much more water during the spin cycle, that the dryers don't have as much work to do, so the benefits of gas over electric are becoming less important. YMMV.

I was in a FS store yesterday and it said 3.6 cu ft - as did the samsung brochure I picked up from on top of the samsung unit. Who knows though whether is this a new model size, or did Samsung decide to "recalculate" the dimensions upwards?

The sales guy was trying to upsize me to the Whirlpool set which has 4.0 cu ft "and can wash 16 pairs of jeans". I'm not convinced though that .4 cu ft will be a deal breaker for me.

FS delivery charge was $40 or $50 and to remove old appliances it was $30 each (i.e. $30 for your old washer and $30 for the old dryer).

I'm thinking of price-matching FS to Leon's price today on the Samsung set, so I can avoid the madness on Boxing Day morning. The colours are different, but I don't think they'll wantto lose a sale and will probably deal with me.

Something to keep in mind re belt drive vs direct - this is taken from Future Shop's website:

Washer Drive System - The mechanical method by which the machine turns the tub in the washer. The two main options are belt-drive and direct-drive. The belt-drive system runs very smoothly, but the belt will occasionally need replacement. In the direct-drive system, the transmission attaches directly to the motor. This reduces the number of moving parts and eliminates belt problems, but any required repairs will be more complex, and therefore more costly.

I just printed out the flyer from their website yesterday and went to Trail Appliances in Richmond for price match. The lady suggested me to get the LG. I also talked to the FS guy on Monday and he said LG is better.

I also bought the LG fridge and Whirlpool dishwasher with price matching from the same flyer. Total delivery is $104.95. Since I bought the 5 year plan, she gave me discount to remove the old units, $15 each piece, instead of $20. I need to stack the W/D together and she gave me a discount on the LG stacking kit. I am glad I pick the LG and get the 5 year plan after reading the direct drive comment.

Trail Appliances have their own Boxing Day sale on Dec 27. She said she would give me lower prices if theirs are lower. Either way, I win.

I'd like to know this as well. The FS sales guy I spoke to, who did seem to know his appliances, didn't talk me up much on the direct drive aspect. The $200 extra for LG, the risk of major repair bills with direct drive, and the uncertaintly of buying major appliances online all tilt me towards buying the samsung pair. I'd like to hear additional points though on direct drive to make me consider otherwise.

I ended up going with the LG set. Got it here in Ottawa from Corbeil for $1159 and free delivery. Got it done and out of the way, so I can sleep in on BD too! The Samsung set from FS would be $979 plus ~$70 for delivery. Plus I would have to pay in full now. Plus I have to buy it online and hope I get a set. Corbeil I only paid the tax as my deposit until a few days before delivery. So for the extra $90, I went with the LG and the direct drive, which most people said is better.

If people do want the Samsung set, I would get it at Leons, Sears could PM Leons, but they charge for delivery.

Hope that helps!!

I have a 3.8 LG front load & a queen size comforter is a very tight fit & the comforter doesn't tumble properly. My mother-in-law has those newer 4.5 cubic feet high efficiency Whirlpool top loader & that accomodates a queen size comforter nicely.

I have heard that because the front loaders get rid of so much more water during the spin cycle, that the dryers don't have as much work to do, so the benefits of gas over electric are becoming less important. YMMV.True. My 4 year old 3.8 LG front load spins at 900 rpm which gets a lot of water out of the clothes so I only use medium heat & half the normal drying time. The current front load washers spin upwards of 1200 to 1300 rpm. Regular top load washers only spin 300 to 400 rpm.

I bought my pair at the Eglinton & Laird location in Toronto. They matched the Leons with shipping price.

My hassle came when asking for the 24 months equal payments plan that they have advertised (which includes a $99 admin fee, which I was willing to pay). They were only going to give me the 6 months payment plan, which I refused. So I called the Warden store, and got a guy in their appliances dept who was willing to give me the same deal and the 24 months plan. So the Laird guy spoke to his manager, and the best they would do is 12 months (a $69 admin fee), which I was willing to do. I didn't want to drive over to the other store and start over. They gave me $40 off each of the pedestals as well, which was an OK deal in my opinion, not amazing. (They said I was getting them at their cost, which I find hard to believe).

So I'm happy with how it worked out. I'm getting mine delivered Dec 30th already! (They had earlier spots available, but it worked best). I'm sure glad I did it today as it still took me a long time - I can't imagine trying to have done this on Boxing Day morning in a sea of people.

Interesting note - when he tried to change the prices for my invoice the Samsung pair came up in the system already at the B Day price. So you may not even have to wheel and deal if you go today. Just tell them to look in the system at the current price!

Good luck all!

Hi Joshifer,
I was at Sears yesterday and they were going to price match this set from future shop, but be ware. It is the same set but in white. The sku/material number didn't match. We almost did it but then when I asked the sears staff to read me the item/sku/material number I found out it is the white set. Sears doesn't carry the steel look set like future shop. So be ware.

Talked to Sears they said no way will they price match as they called it a Loss Leader. Meaning they can't make any money on it. The salesman told me that it was a smoking deal, which I knew already as I've been pricing out front loaders for 2 years. Bought mine this morning, one of the best deals I've seen for boxing day.

They did it for me - with the white set. I didn't care what colour it was. I'm sorry you couldn't...but I've dealt with this specific salesman at Sears already so maybe he was doing me a favour? I'm not sure.

ETA: Just checked my Sears card - it was processed for $1019...so I know it went through - you had me worried for a moment as I only did it over the phone and was worried that they changed their minds. =)

Some decent news re Samsung's ratings based on a JD Power survey for those of us who bought this set.

Here is the article (http://www.homegoodsonline.ca/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2431&Itemid=2).

And here is the direct link (http://www.jdpower.com/homes/ratings/Laundry-Appliances-Ratings)to the JD Power survey.

LG is top in washers, with Samsung right behind them, and Samsung is top in dryers, with LG taking second. Reassuring info I'd say, for us new Samsung people!

I just bought this set of washer/dryer, and I'm looking to stack the two together with a stacking kit.

Are there any recommendations for stacking kits and where to buy them?

I just got my set delivered last night and it looks great. They did a good job setting it up - attaching the pedestals takes a little bit of time. I haven't actually run them yet but they look great! I love the sound level options - reminds me of the coins in Super Mario :cheesygri Enjoy yours people! Happy cleaning!

Hey guys, can someone give me details on what I am entitled to on delivery (ordered from the website, not in store.)

Someone above just mentioned they set it up as well? Will they remove the old ones and take them out to the garage? Carry the new ones downstairs?

The guys that delivered mine just moved the old ones out of the way, and put these in place. No setup or offer to take the others to the garage, or anything. They may have, if I had asked, but I've got a hand cart, so I'm not really bothered about it.

Oh, and yes, the new ones were carried downstairs.

Just got mines delivered and installed and I'm very happy.

The guys were nice and quick...they installed and took the old ones away without asking for extra charges.

Very happy indeed.

When the washer is off and I spin the drum by hand, I can hear water whooshing around. Is that normal?

Mines is like that too.. I was reading the manual and says nothing about it.. maybe I'll post this question in the home and garden forum.

I registered mine online with Samsung and discovered my units were manufactured on Nov 30th, 2008! Pretty fresh units, I'd say.

Sorry - no idea re the whooshing sound in the washer. I'll check mine to see if it does the same.
