Old prepaid Fido Cellphone

Quick question... I've got this old cell phone from Fido which is being used on a monthly/prepaid phone ($10/month)...
If I wanted to upgrade the phone (but wanted to keep the number), could I just buy any Fido or Rogers cell phone and slip in the sim card? (smart phones arent a consideration).

You have to buy a Fido phone or an unlocked phone. So the only way to use a Rogers phone whould be by unlocking it.
