View Full Version : Future Shop / Best Buy WILL NOT PRICEMATCH Dec 26/27!!!

This should be a sticky.
Both Future Shop and Best Buy have a no pricematch or return policy on Dec 26/27..
In fact, customer service at the stores is closed and unstaffed, so there will be nobody to do returns or pricematches for you. If you ask the staff, the answer will be no.
Returns can be done Dec 28 and after. They will not pricematch dec 26/27 prices on Dec 28 and later, as these are 'limited quantity' and 'doorcrasher' items and are exempt from the price protection policy. Same applies to the limited and doorcrasher items from the Dec 28 to 31 and competitor flyers.
You can theoretically buy an item on Dec 26/27 and return it with your earlier purchased item receipt, provided no serial number is on the receipt. Feel free to weigh if the time spent is worth it and if it is ethically acceptable to do so...
This post is prompted by the multiple posts of 'can I pricematch boxing day???' In the deals forum...

TY.
lol I was kinda scared to make a thread about the question because I knew I would get flamed so the OP did a fine job posting this.
Maybe make this an official thread or sticky it so people know and ask here first. Its not like its gonna last forever, you know, just for the boxing day craze.

So I have to buy a Sony 52' and carry it back to home for two days. And return it at 28? The shipping cost will kill the PM.
Can I just buy it and leave it in the store?

I'd just like a clarification:
Will BB/FS not Price Match at the cashes with a flyer from another store on the 26th/27th, or will they just not do price protection (i.e. refunding the difference on a previously bought item)?

They won't price match or price protect on the 26/27.

Let's make it even clearer:
There is no customer service staff and customer service counter open on Dec 26/27. Even if you tried to pricematch an item against their flyers, a competitor, or even tried to return an item on those 2 days, there is nobody and nowhere to do so.
Another request to make this a sticky. There are new threads popping up asking the same question.

You know, the fact that this thread exists makes it quite evident why people here gripe about BB and FS (+ other big box stores), and have problems with those stores :).

I'm still unclear about the price protection policy. If I buy something on the 26/27th, then within 30 days (or whatever it is) the price drops even more, can I get a refund of the difference? Or is that what they mean by no price protection on limited supply/doorcrashers.
To be a little more specific, I'm in the market for a laptop, but the boxing day deals aren't so great, so I was thinking the prices may go down even more by the end of January.

Laptops are only price protected for 15 days. If it does drop in those 15 days, then yes, they will PM for you.

If your order has already been processed, then no. If your order hasn't made it through processing, then it is possible, but not guaranteed.
Keep in mind that boxing day orders are generally processed VERY quickly.

I've never had a problem PM'ing a boxing day price (unless it was a doorcrasher or limited quantities) after Boxing day (on the 28th when they start doing returns again).
Last year I got COD4 from FS at regular price and PM'd the Best Buy price of $39.99 after the sale.

I was just at the Heartland location and there were two people complaining to the store manager that they were told that price matches/protection would be done during boxing week.
I also commented to the manager that I was told the exact same thing and he said that he will not be "ganged up on" by customers. He said they will not do the price match and that he will talk to the sales reps.
The problem is that if a salesperson told customers that price matches would be done - even if it was incorrect - and the customer made the purchase based on these comments then FS would have to honour the terms and conditions of the sale.
Yet one more reason why FS is SLEAZY!

I bought a 40 inch A530 Samsung at BB for 999.99 at the end of October
A few weeks later I went back and added the blu-ray player for 99.99 and was given a new reciept saying I had price protection until Jan 5
Now the A530 is 850 at Sears until Jan 1
Would Best Buy still pricematch that? Even though I did get Blu Ray player for 100 bucks?

I bought a camera online at Best Buy on December 23 which of course dropped twenty bucks on December 25. The sale goes to January 4th so I think that I should be able to get my twenty dollars back under their 'lowest price guarantee' but the customer service people are saying no, that I have to return the first camera (minus shipping) and then reorder at the new price. This makes no sense to me. They keep saying it is part of their boxing day sale but it is not as the price goes to January 4th. Can I get the price reduction done in store on an on line item? Will their answer change after the 28th?
On a similar note, I bought at Madden PSP set on December 5th at FS and want to price match it with the Walmart flyer (fifty dollars cheaper) which goes until December 31st. I assume if I take receipt plus Walmart Flyer into a FS on Sunday that should not be an issue? It says I have until January 5th to do a return.
I am not relishing either trips, but want to make sure that I should be able to reclaim this money. I have read their on line policies and as long as the flyers go beyond the Boxing Day limit of the 27th I think I'm ok.

Oh BTW... i went there yesterday (Boxing Day) and I was able to exchange a Sirius Stilleto W/Car Kit, for a Stilleto with boom box... they did it no problem...
I told them I would BRB, so I went to my car, got the radio, and as I came in the lady at the door yelled "NO RETURNS OR EXCHANGES DURING BOXING DAY" I just smiled and pointed to the girl behind the counter, she shrugged her shoulders and pointed at her manager... it was funny...
Maybe it was my boyish good looks...
If I wasnt allowed to do it, I would have just bought my boom box, and return my radio tomorrow.

Hello all, new here.
I was able to price match Best Buy in Burnaby, BC with Visions on a Garmin 755T GPS. A Geek Squad guy came up to me and asked me if I needed any help, I said I'm interested in that GPS and asked if it was possible to price match Visions as they had it onsale for $448, Boxing Day price. Best Buy had it on sale for $533. He said yes and went to call Visions to confirm stock and let me have it for $439.50+tax. Maybe I got lucky, but I'm sure happy they did it. If they didn't I would have just driven to Visions to purchase this unit.

Do you think Best Buy/Future Shop will price match now? Tomorrow is the 28th - do you think they will price match NHL 2K9 from Walmart? The Walmart flyer is until Dec31. Our store may get some in on Tuesday but I don't want to take a chance. I was thinking of calling them tomorrow because it is 100km+ to the nearest BB/FS store. Does anyone think it will work?

Same here. Sales rep did their best to PM. The only weird thing I found is that the sales rep has an incentive to not PM according to policy (10% of difference, etc) because it may take away from their commission.

Congrats to those who got successful pms. That is more the exception than the norm.
Pms for the remainder of dec and the rest of next week should be possible, as long as the item is in stock, and isn't a limited quantity or doorcrasher.

Does the new receipt with both the tv and blu-ray player listed on it or just the blu-ray player? If it's the latter, then you're out of luck. You have the tv for almost two months now and there is no way they will pm for you. On the other hand, if you also have the tv listed on the new receipt, then you'll have a strong case to plea. I just returned from FS Merivale (Ottawa) where I eventually was able to PM my Madden PSP set with Walmart. The returns line was massive, and a manager type was going down the line approving or denying the returns. He initially refused to PM as it is a "Limited Quantities" sale but I said I was happy to go buy one at Walmart and return the other one to FS, but it seemed kind of pointless since I'd already been in the line for 30 minutes. He agreed to PM but not give the 10% difference, which was fine by me, I just wanted the better price. Next up: Best Buy on Tuesday to get my camera price reduced as the online people are refusing saying it is a Boxing Day price (although it ends January 4th). FS guy said that any BB person would give me back the twenty dollar difference as the sale goes beyond December 27th. I will wait until the 3rd or so to do it though, can't hack that line again.

The TV is on the newest reciept, maybe they'll do it
If I can get the TV PM'ed to 780 or even 850 and they do charge me the non-bundle price for the BR player that still saves me some money....
Except that on the newest receipt the TV and BR are listed as just 940 dollars.....cause I did get a deal on a 4 year PSP and HD box free rental....
And if I use the other reciepts to show what happened they will see how long ago I bought it
Or maybe they'll give me the BR and the TV for 780....and I'll go into the RFD hall of fame or something :p
Edit edit - looking closer at the reciepts, I don't think I was charged anything for the blu ray player....

Tell them straight up that if they don't pm it, you'll return the tv even if you have to return the blu ray player as well. Trust me, they would not want to lose the sale especially on the 4 year psp. In your case, the ball is certainly in your hand. Maybe you can even get them to pm + 10% off difference. By the way, which panel did you get? If you got a C panel, maybe you would want to return it and try your luck with Sears instead.

Check my 2nd edit...
And its a C panel I think but the audio is perfectly synched
Edit - Yup, they really didn't charge me for the BR player at all lol
First I spent 1322 after tax for the 4 year PSP, TV and HD package
Then when I got the BR player they charged me 1062 after the tax for the TV and the BR
The difference in the subtotal before tax is what the PSP cost me...

Just out of curiosity. Do you really need 4 year psp on this tv? If you already used a credit card with free 1 year extended warranty to pay, then that means you really paid for two additonal year warranty instead of four since the psp started on the day you bought your tv.

Just out of curiosity. Do you really need 4 year psp on this tv? If you already used a credit card with free 1 year extended warranty to pay, then that means you really paid for two additonal year warranty instead of four since the psp started on the day you bought your tv.
They gave me 4 years for the price of 2
And the tv did die within hours of taking it home, had to exchange it the next day...
I never bother with extended warranties but this is a TV after all, hopefully it dies Oct 25 2012
