I'm looking for a nice blu-ray player.. possibly one of the nice Sony ones.. but every flyer I've seen, they only have the lower-end ones on sale, or none at all.. it's pretty sad.

Anyone know where I can find one at a good price?

I'm also looking for one and haven't seen anything good onsale yet. Sears.ca has the SONY Blu-rayTM Disc Player BDPS350 (http://www.sears.ca/gp/product/B001JSYQL6/sr=1-1/qid=1230029010/ref=sr_1_1/192-0767062-4254754?ie=UTF8&searsBrand=core&mqnodeid=667812011) for 249.99 right now until the 24th. I'm thinking of ordering that, using the $30 off of $250 coupon (http://www.redflagdeals.com/deals/main.php/coupons/coupons_all/cat/Sears.ca/), and the $50 sears club gift certificate I got in the mail. I might have to add a small filler item to get the price over $250 though. I just haven't seen any players as good advertised for boxing day sales yet.

Why would you want a Sony when you can buy the Samsung BD-P1500 currently on sale at FS? It has the same features as the Sony. Its 199 online and 179 in store, plus you get 3 free BR disks.

The Samsung BD-P1500 may have the same specs as the Sony, but the Sony is much better regarded for picture and audio.

Though the Samsung BD-P2550 is your best bang-for-the-buck but it is over $300.

The lack of any name-brand Blu-ray player for sale on Boxing Day is very disappointing, especially as we had all these fake "insiders" telling us about the stacks of Sony and Samsung players ready for BD.

I guess Sony is hurting worse than even I thought.

You won't find a deal on a Pioneer 51 series, Sony 550 series, or samsung 2550 series Blu Ray player. They don't get discounted heavily.

My vote is for the Samsung 1500 with 3 free movies for $179.99. Better than any of the boxing day deals we have seen.

Either that, or the Sony 350 for $199 at superstore, plus buy $50 of groceries or other stuff and use the $30 off $250 coupon they are running right now.

I have a samsung 1500 and a sony 350 player. No real difference between the two. Faster than the sony 500 or samsung 1200 they replaced...

The Sharp 21 series for $169.99 is a so so deal. No free movies kinda kills it.

Is that samsung 1500 still $179 in store? It says $199 online, but usually the store and online prices are the same (except those web-only deals). This is even better than that Sharp player they have for boxing day.

Oh, and PQ-wise? Is it 90% of the PS3? If even CNET can complain about the PQ then it certainly warrants research :)

At Future Shop Edmonton Downtown the sign said $199 for the Samsung 1500 but if you talk to a sales guy they'll either say right off the bat it's $179 or just do a PM with BB. Took me all of 5 seconds, and got the 3 free movies to boot.

I'm pretty sure the RCSS/Zehrs price of $199.99 on the Sony 350 is the best deal out there right now (especially when they had no tax a few weekends ago)...

Does the Samsung 1500 have the BD Live feature that the Sony 350 has? And is it even something to worry about having to begin with?

Nevermind... just found it does have BD Live aswell

Agreed, and that's the point - there are no name-brand Blu-ray player deals for Boxing Day.

The best deals were a week ago. I had FS price match Dell last Sunday when they had the one day sale on the S350 for $199. I was hoping to get the panasonic but couldn't find any deals on it.

I never had any luck with Visions in Calgary. One year I lined up for a pair of speakers on Boxing Day. I was in the front of the line, I got in the store and they didn't have any stock, it's not soldout but they simply did not have any. They wanted me to pay in full then they would order the item in for me! Excuse me!

I gave them a few chances after, but they were always unreliable. Some prices in their flyers sure looked good because in most cases they did not stock what they advertised. I would not recommend even visiting the store - it was a complete waste of time.

Time is important to us shoppers, especially on Boxing Day.

It's just my experience, I guess someone out there probably love Visions. Maybe they do better in Vancouver.

Future Shop Newmarket and Markham East in Ontario had the 1500 Samsung for $179 including the movie offer. Many units in stock scattered all over the store.

And i agree with another poster....between the Samsung and Sony, no difference between the two when it comes to picture and audio.

I grabbed the Samsung today at FS in Brantford. It was $199 here, but i got an open box for $179 and the free movies so I can't complain too much. It does seem better than any of the boxing day deals.

Futureshop has the Samsung for $199 with the 3 movies. I asked if they would give me the $179 deal from the weekend and they obliged. I also got I Am Legend for $19.99. Love that movie. I'm really happy with the player and my old 720P rear projection looks great.

whats wrong with the insignia $99 player? I'm thinking of buying one for my parents. They don't care for special features in movies, but my dad's been hampering me about my blu ray collection but I'm not lending him my ps3.

aslong as it plays movies at 1080p, how bad can it be? Don't BD players have a standard of image quality?

I think the S550 w/ 3 movies at FS for $299 is a damn good deal. It came out around early fall at $399 (which was American pricing btw) and $100 off with 3 movies is pretty good. Also, it decodes DTS-MA and TrueHD, which gives it a leg up over the S350.

Even though I bitched about it earlier, I may try to go to best buy to pick up the Insignia - my PS3 is in for repair and most of the stuff under the tree is blu-ray movies. For a secondary player to just have as a backup, I think it will do alright at $100. (of course, that is if I get there early enough to snag one)

FYI: Sears return policy has a 20% restocking fee. I found out when I returned my Sony S350.
I was able to plead ignorance and I bought the service lady a coffee.
Otherwise, It would have cost me $50 to return it.

I went to two FS and two BB as well as two HMVs and so far BB has the best deals overall for Blu Rays, HMV has the best deals for DVDs and FS is complete CRAP!

Pretty much every Blu Ray I saw at BB for $10-15 today, they were $15 and up at FS except for From Dusk Till Dawn which I got for $13 and Terminator 2 for $10 at FS.

I bought 6 BR discs today and even though they were on sale, they still cost quite abit. Also there were plenty of cheap DVDs at HMV like Braveheart special edition for $10, but now that I bought Blu Ray even at that price and I LOVE that movie, I skipped in the hopes that it will come out soon on BR. There were other BRs that I wanted to by at BB too, but I'm trying to limit myself before I blow my whole bank account on BRs.

It's their Boxing Day advertised price. http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=BDL10003253&catid=25323&logon=&langid=EN. The 3 movies were I Robot, Devil Wears Prada, Forbidden Kingdom.

If you didn't want the movies but just the unit, you could have bought it from Sears for $199.99.

I'm starting to think the PS3 as a possible Blu-Ray player option. At $380 cash, it is a smoking deal! That's like $335 pre-tax, which is ~$135 more than the ~$200 that I spent on the Sony S350. :|

London Drugs has the Sony BDPS350 for $199 also.

Was at BB to check out the Insignia, only saw the demo so not sure if the casing has changed and I usually don't care how electronics look, but that is one ugly and cheap looking piece of electronic. I thought pieces might start falling off.

As for blu ray itself, positive reviews from my family members, they might even start looking to get a player (PS3). They were commenting on Kung Fu Panda and how they could see so much more detail in the blu ray version as compared to the dvd.

It was a different story when I bought Nov 2006,

Actually the PS3 is voted best blu-ray player to buy on a bunch of sites. It plays almost all formats and discs whereas not all players do that. Plus it plays games (good for company). However, it is more expensive.

Thats not true, I know plenty of people who dont have nor care about adopting Bluray yet (me included). It is nice to have but I will probably wait up to another year before buying (unless something cheap comes along soon).

I was hoping to pick one up but it is still not worth it for me at $200+.
