sony should have dropped the msrp by $50 for the holidays... coulda seen $299 ps3s which would help their sales a lot more both here and in the states

either way i would go with the sams club deal if i was in the market for one

ive read recent newspaper and online articles, sony is loosing money on each ps3 sold, i dont know if that entirely true but i know this year the price probably wont even drop $50 if anyone is lucky.... im picking up a ps3 on boxing day either way.

I think that the companies seem to take a loss on the console only to make the gains when they sell games. Let's face it, they generally make their money on games. I wish the PS3 was a bit cheaper. :/

Good post, i am looking for a PS3, but these savings kind of blow. I would go for the world tour, but i have played the game already, and it was pretty good, but id rather save $$$ than get it bundled.

Continuing my hunt for a used 60GB...

saw about 6 60gb PS3 back in October at the Cote-Des-Neiges/Cote Ste-Catherine Blockbuster for 330$ + free remote.

Haven't been there since so I don't know if they still have any

The 80gb ones were 399.99$

edit: fine print says 26/12/08 to 12/1/09I'd say Best Buy's is the best on the list. It's got the best value. Little Big Planet is one of the best, if not the best, titles on the PS3. Genji is a throwaway $10 or $20 game. EB is Guitar Hero III, not World Tour and that's been on clearance for $50 everywhere as stores are desperately trying to get rid of the huge boxes that the music games come in.

Still, it is sad for a boxing day deal....

EB has Offered a choice of 5 games for the past 3 weeks! LBP was one of the titles too...

The BEST deal has to be TAX FREE AND NHL 09 FOR FREE at RCSS!

Equivalent to a $449 PS3 and a FREE Game!

Sony Style hasn't been brought up yet. If you buy a $50 gift card now, you get a $50 gift certificate to be used on anything $100 or more. You can read about this deal in the forums. This deal is allowed to be used on top of any deal that they run, too. The guy working here in Saskatoon said that last year they left the price the same, but gave away a game (not sure which one) and a blu ray remote for free. If it were to be the same this year.... that would be $349 for an 80 GB with the remote and a game. Better than some of these other deals. It might be worth the gamble to try Sony Style.

Man, if I hadn't won a 60gb when they first came out, not sure I would have bought one yet....I probably would have waited for FFXIII to come out. As it is, the Guitar Hero bundle looks pretty good....Plus you can rip out the drive and put in a larger one whenever you want...put a 250Gb in mine. :)

Nintendo is actually making a profit on each console/game. I've read somewhere that each console profit is $50.

These PS3 deals are terrible! For all the people on the fence I would say hold off. I got my 80gb BC PS3 used for 390 back in Sept and it still sees little usage. If you're a hardcore gamer get a 360 or a decent computer.

Hmmmm $40 in shops (or maximum $20 online) for a 3ft cable, $55 for a DS3. The bundled items are good, but the bundle isn't at $399...so it's already $40 more than everyone else.

Meh. The PS3 will sit on the store shelf for me for another 6 months to a year if it stays at $399, even with a game included.

Same here, though BD players are getting cheaper every week it seems. But for $29 I might be picking up a copy of metal gear 4 @ wal-mart.

The sam's club deal is pretty good though it's for the now discontinued 40 gig model which is not backwards compatible with ps2 games.

These deals are pretty cold, just got back from Costco, it isn't a boxing day deal or anything it's their everyday price/bundle. You get:

Last year, I got my 40GB PS3+Spiderman 3 BR+one game+HDMI cable+5 free BR discs (rebate) from Dell.ca for $399. Even compare to these deals this year, I still think the Dell.ca deal was better. Just shows how much these deals sucked that they can't beat a deal a year ago.

I'd rather buy 3 - $50 GC from Sony Style and get 3 - $50 Gift Certificates. Assuming NOTHING is on sale, the worst you can do is this. $400 -$50 = $350 for the 80 GB. Buy 2 DS3 Controllers for $110 - 50 = $60. Lastly pick 2 of the newest games at $60 each... so $120 - $50 = 70. So for a grand total of $480 (plus taxes) you get an 80 GB, 3 Controllers and 2 of the best games available for $32 more.... and there probably will be some deal of some sort to make this even better.

Uh, no. They were selling them at a loss. It amazes me people think they make even close to that much. $50 per Wii? Not even close. Try maybe 1/5 of that for Nintendo and less than 1/10 of that for retailers.

you forgot the BEST deal believe it or not is at the SONY STYLE
STORE!!!!

for a PS3 80 GB, your cost will be 430$ roughly, taxes INCLUDED AND an extra controller!!! unless you want a game that's 50$+ your choice...

here's how:
you can get a 25$ gift certificate and 50$ gift certificate for buying a 25$ gift card or 50$ gift card at the Sony Store...

you have to spend these on anything over 50$ or 100$

25$+25$ must be spent on 50$+

50$ +50$ must be spent on 100$+

the link for those gift certificates is here:
http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=668686

so NOW here's the secret, and I called one store and it's doable:

get 50$ off the PS3 with the gift card, get 25$ off the remote controller for PS3 with the gift card, you have to use these two as separate orders:

in the end, your cost will be 430$ roughly taxes INCLUDED AND an extra controller!!! unless you want a game that's 50$+ your choice...

Can somebody confirm this will work for sure? The last thing I want is to end up with all these useless sony giftcards that I know I'll never end up using.

So basically, I buy a $25 gift card and a $50 gift card = $75. And I'll get another $75 worth of certificates for free.. but in your explanation you only talk about using the gift cards.. how about the other $75 of gift certificates? Maybe I'm just really tired, 5 hours of sleep. Somebody help me understand this?

Sometimes the U.S. gets the best deals. For example, if you sign up for a Sony Card in the USA, you get $150 off a PS3.

Here is an example of the offer here:

Bluetooth only.

Yes.
Or you can just use your PS3 controller as the remote. A bit clumsy, but you can access all the functions.

the SIG deal seems really nice, too bad I don't live in Ontario...

Anyone know if costco will have a boxing day deal for ps3?

The SIG deal is a bait and switch. If they have more than 3 in stock I'll be suprised..

I'm depressed too..so many XBOX 360 deals and no PS3?

I'm so pissed off I might not even grab a PS3 screw..these deals are junk.

Approx. 13,000 views in this thread? PS3 Deal at SIG is cash only.
Big line up of people in front of SIG's stores for PS3 = lots of money to be robbed.

Plus you run the risk of wasting all that time lining up for the PS3 deal when other deals could have been had. Richmond Hill and Brampton aren't dangerous neighborhoods of course, but you never know what might happen at 4-6AM.

Sony Style at the Canada One outlet in Niagara Falls has a bunch of refurbished PS3 (with 1 yr warranty) for $299. There are a variety of PS3 - 40GB, 80GB and the old 80GB with backward compatibility. Not sure if this is for everyone but I think it's same as new due to the 1 yr warrnaty.

Sony Style's deal was $425 for the 80GB with an extra controller (half price). Not great by itself, but when you figure in a $50 Gift Certificate... $375. So if the extra controller is worth $55... $320 for the system. Not bad. Better than lining up all night for $299 at SIG. (which we don't have out here in Saskatchewan anyways)

I was able to successfully match at Futureshop yesterday as my wife picked me up the PS3 a week ago for Christmas. They made the mistake of telling her that if I found a better deal after Christmas that they would match. My wife warned them that I was 'Frugal':D, so I ran to our EB games which is right across the street from FS and had them put a PS3 on hold. Went to FS and told them that I had one on hold at EB with free GH3. They were reluctant, took the customer service person to call her manager, who in turn directed me to the entertainment manager, who in turn went directly to the store Manager. You could tell that he just didn't care to even listen. The entertainment manager didn't even get half way through explaining the situation when he muttered 'Just give him whatever he wants!'

I should have asked for a free controller too!

So I was able to get the PS3 w/ GH3 for $400!

I need to do something like this. I asked for PS3 for Christmas, only half expecting to get it, or else I would ahve given specific instrucitons on where to buy it to get the msot for the $400. Well, I got it, and without any of the free extras (controller, MGS4, etc etc) that a lot of stores had available.

So... what kind of luck will I have if I try to go back to Future Shop and get something like LBP, or an extra controller, or Rainbow Six Vegas 2, or GH 3?? If they say no, then I can just say "OK, I'm returning this PS3 and I'm going to buy it somewhere else" right? I doubt they want to be stuck with a unit that has to be sold as a refurb ???

The problem that you will now have is that all of these deals are officially dead. If you would have done it during boxing week, you may have been able to. You will just have to watch all ads for the next 2 - 3 weeks depending on when your PS3 was bought (30 day guarantee!)
Good luck!

Thanks to someone posted in one of the PS3 thread earlier (can't find it again), I was able to pick up a refurbished 60G version for $279 + tax. All version are selling for the same price and they had 1 20G, a lot of 40Gs, 1 60G and a few 80Gs with BC when I left yesterday. A one year warranty by Sony is included in all refurbished PS3.

well.. wasnt quite a boxing day sale.. since it was well b4 boxing day.~

during the superstore no tax event. i think i landed a good deal..

80gb consule 399.99
blu ray remote 24.99
3rdparty controller with shock 29.99 (works fine btw)
buy 1 game $20 get one free game offer for total....

= $455.XX no tax.

I just chose spiderman old one..and not a 2nd game so it came free. but ratings say it sucked maybe i will exchange it for bball game or something like that)

seems like a decent price even compared to lot of the ps3 boxing deals that were on. cuz of the no tax.
i saved at least 70$ in taxes if u compare getting a free LBP or MGS4 game for 400..if u need to get accessories.. then superstore was the winner by far =)

too bad there is no sony outlet store back west with that kinda deal even for a refurb and warranty...else i'd jump on that in a jiffy~

Bought my ps3 at TRU when they had a $350 deal if you buy a ps3 wireless controller. I saw an ad on craiglist from the shop by Metrotown Burnaby for $350 taxes in if you pay cash. So I went to buy it and returned it to TRU for a refund (the taxes ~ $42). But i guess they didn't know I had purchased the ps3 for $350 because they refunded me $400 instead. I didn't even realize it until I got home and checked the refund receipt ... $300 taxes in for the ps3 ... woot!!! :D

Sold out at Bramalea City Centre, too. I would have liked an extra DS3 (sold out of Troy + R6V2) but they were only offering Unreal Tournament and any Blu-Ray under $25 as a replacement. I'll eBay Unreal Tournament for ~$20 I guess, which gives me some cash towards a DS3. $40 on Amazon.ca after $10 off coupon.

Thanks to the OP of the FS open box deals. I've been calling the Waterloo FS asking about open box 80gig PS3s for the last few days - the closest I got was an open box 160gig PS3 - I believe they had it listed at $480.

Finally called the Kitchener (sportsworld) location yesterday - they had an open box 80gig for $360. I put it on hold.

When I got to the store I mentioned that some FS's have been selling them for $340 with the extended 3 year warranty. The entertainment CSR I spoke with explained that the pricing of open box items goes down the longer it sits in the store. She then checked the system and printed out the $339 open box price sticker. I'm not sure if she overrode the price to the next "step down" in their open-box pricing structure, or if she just checked the system and the box had been there long enough to qualify for the lower price. I wasn't able to get the extended warranty thrown in, but am still happy with the price. I used my mastercard to get the extra 1 year coverage through the credit card company.

See, this is what baffles me. All I wanted was a game or DS3 to go along with the system which was bought for $400 with no extras within the previous 30 days. They said "no, we won't match boxing day deals, you have to return it and buy it somewhere else". They lose $70 plus all of their labour for the person to process the return, check the boxes, do whatever refurb they do, etc. Probably $80+. Or they could have added in a DS3 which probably cost them half of that, or a game which is even less. This isn't even taking into account the inevitably higher rate of return and/or defect on the refurbs that they sell. I understand not wanting to set a precedent of being "blackmailed" so to speak, but it's just a lousy price-match.

Picked up an 80 gig today at Yonge/Dundas Best Buy. Since they're out of the promo package titles (free Troy and Rainbow Six 2), they're letting people choose 1 Blu-Ray up to $16.99 and 1 game up to $39.99.

I went with Motorstorm and Full Metal Jacket. It was actually a decent selection, at least for the blu-rays. But a lot of the shelf tags and sticker prices are incorrect (ie full metal jacket was priced 21.99 on shelf). My advice is to decide what you want by sorting the blu-rays by price on bestbuy.ca.
