I've got a number from another city that I don't want to get rid of, who is the cheapest that I can port this number to so I can maintain the number for the next year or so?

I just want to be able to see who called on that number, but not actually use the time on it. I'll probably access the voicemail from a landline and use callerID and missed calls to see who is calling.

I checked out virgin but it looks like I will have to put in 100$ to maintain the phone for a year.

Any cheaper ways?

Try 7eleven speakout or Petro Canada Mobility, those plans are very cheap.

petrocan looks good... Is there a way I can just get a sim so I dont have to buy a new phone? I'm assuming it works on GSM...

use fido prepaid.

buy a new sim card from BST

activate it with the cheapest $10 plan for 30 days... let the 30 days expire, the $10 will run out, but since you have to go 6 months without refilling until they deactivate your number, just refill it up again with $10 just before the 6 months come up.

some one correct me if i'm wrong, since it's been a while since i've done this, so their policy might have changed
