You may remember my last thread concerning which "DSLR" camera I should buy....
Now here is part two of that story. The purpose of me creating another seperate thread is for beginners who also want to know what lenses they should have in their arsenal; the other thread was concerning which entry DSLR was a better choice; so I decided to keep them seperate.
In any case, technically I spoke with a few of you and all of you have been giving me great advice. But at the end of the day, my gf decided to purchase the Nikon D90 for me (Sorry Korruption, I was actually going to get the A200 but my gf purchased it before I could get the chance to).
Now, my questions are as follows:
1. Which lenses would be a good buy? (For the following uses - a. portraits, b. landscape, c. all-purpose walk-around lense, d. telephoto)
2. My gf bought the one with the 18-105mm kit lense. Is this the best bundle out there? Or should she have gotten another better bundle?
Thanks for your help in choosing my equipment/arsenal guys!

There are tons of threads talking about what lens to get so there isn't a point creating another thread.
Portrait lens: Nikkor 50mm f1.4D/G, 85 f1.8 (f1.4 if you have $$$), Sigma 30mm f1.4 HSM, 50mm f1.4 HSM
Landscape: Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 or Sigma 10-20mm f4-f5.6
All Purpose: Nikkor 18-200 VRII
Telephoto: Nikkor 70-200mm VR, 70-300mm VR, 80-200mm or Sigma 70-200mm
I would suggest just use your included lens until you figure out what you enjoy taking the most.

All depends on your budgets.
Portraits:
Optimal - 85 1.4
Budget - 50 1.8
Landscape:
Optimal: 14-24 2.8
Budget - Tokina 12-24 f/4
All-Purpose:
Optimal: 70-200 2.8
Budget: 18-200
Telephoto:
Optimal: 200 f/2, or 300 2.8 (on DX), or 400 2.8 (on FX)
Budget: 70-300? Really not sure.

I'll answer the second question, cus there are just too many choices and others will prolly have more experience with different lenses.
I would suggest you keep the kit lens, because u have it anyways, and it does most of the things u need to do. I would love to have the D90 with that lens.

It would be easier to name some lenses if you had a budget in mind. You'll find lenses can cost 2-3x more than what you paid for your body.
If money was not an issue I would get:
14-24 2.8 (~$1500)
24-70 2.8 (~1500)
105 micro VR (~$700)
85 1.4 (~$1100)
70-200 2.8 VR (~$1900)
200-400 VR (~$3000)
etc etc...

This is the best answer.
The D90 is a good choice, the A200 is just a lot cheaper ;)

The 18-105 is decent, but would personally pick the 18-70 over it. The extra 2/3 stop and better build quality are a better value IMO. I hate plastic lenses. Also be sure to pick up the standard 50mm 1.8 sooner or later.

Extra 2/3 stop but much reduced range. I wouldn't be surprised if it was more or less around F4.5 at 70mm...

I would stick to the 18-105 for now until you really know what you want to do and what you are interested in improving first.
BTW> it's also the safe choice since your gf got it for you.
