Yes, you can but you don't get any of the included talk time that comes with the prepaid phone bundle. Meaning a Telus prepaid cell phone bundle includes a $50 airtime card, if you choose to upgrade the phone with a prepaid one you cannot claim the included talk time as a credit towards your post paid account.

No, I called in about this a few weeks ago too.
They will let you switch your Postpaid phone with a Pay and Talk phone, but they won't transfer the $50 or so activation credits. You should just use it before you call in to get an ESN switch.

Depending upon the rep you get, you might be able to transfer the credit to your plan.
I had lost my phone and so bought a prepaid phone as a replacement. I activated it prepaid and downloaded "crap" (most of the stuff is really crap and I would never pay good money for it) and then tried to activate it on my contract. At first the rep said he thought the credits had to be expired before he could tranfer it to my contract. I said "I have to use the rest of the credits?" and he said "no I think they have to be expired so the account doesn't exist anymore" (as in 60 days expired). I thought "uh oh I screwed up", but he checked, was able to switch it right away and credited me what was left. I kind of wish I hadn't wasted the money on stupid ring tones. LOL
Knowing what I know now, I would have just activated it on my contract because I would have pretty ticked at myself if I had had to buy a second phone or wait 60 days to activate it.

The outright price is the Same as the new prepaid activation price, the only difference is, you are just buying the handset at the outright price, so ignore the credits, since you ARE a customer., Those credits are only for people who dont have a line already.. you are not eligible for them because your trying to double dip.. which you can do but you have to wait the 3 months for them to run out because it includes activating a NEW Ban with a new number, but you want them NOW and on your EXISTING number, so your kinda still trying to cheat the system, it clearly states rules to prevent what your trying to acomplish.

I recently bought a prepaid phone to replace a phone that I have on a monthly plan. You do lose the credit as the credit is associated with the new phone only. However, I will be experimenting with activating it as a prepaid and then doing a phone swap to see if that will work.
Which brings me to another question...can I add a prepaid subscriber to my existing telus account? I currently have three numbers associated with my account and would not mind a fourth on prepaid.
