I only give out my cell phone numbers to people I know. I have as well not registered my cell phone on Do Not Call list, but lately I've been getting some telemarketing calls on my cell phone. Where did they get my number from?
Anyway, as a precaution I started only responding to the people who are in my address book. I am just curious how would they get the phone number (do they randomly try calling numbers to see if they are in use?), since only a handful of people know my number and I trust them.

It could be an autodialer that tries numbers until it gets an answering machine or a pick-up or something.
Also the number could have been previously used, and the last person got onto some lists somehow.

Why dont you register your cellphone number on the Do-Not-Call-List?
It takes a month for the transition period though.

Why don't you answer it and tell them to manually remove you because they are breaking the law by calling your cellphone.

Cause it costs me 30c a minute to do so. Anyway, tried calling back the number in US from my land line and complained. The bastards just hung up on me.

Because I've started getting more calls on my landline then when I did not have it registered. Finally got my "This is your captain speaking..." - very annoying, even after I hung up it still tried recalling the number again and again.

Yes, I've been getting that call too - Imperial Majesty Cruise Lines:

Can't seem to get removed from their DNC list.
