I'm posting here to let people know about the disappointing and dissatisfying experience I've had at one of the cellphone stores @ pacific mall.

There is a total of 4 stores from the same boss, but each affiliate has a different name. When you see their signs, the words are in bold white with a blue background color. Their names I believe all end with "Store". I only remember three of them which is "the communication store", "the telephone store" and "the cellphone store". The last one I don't remember, unfortunately, but you will notice once you see their signs as I described.

I wanted to purchase a cellphone from their store and the price was $330. The phone was not available at that time when I went, so I had to wait until they order it. So I made a deposit of $20 and got a receipt.

They promised me that I will get the phone by Friday, so either they would call me if it arrives early or I call them on Friday before I go in. I didn't get a call so I assume it hasn't arrived yet but that's ok, I called in on Friday to check. They did not have it as promised so I was a bit disappointed. Finally, they called me on the following Tuesday to get it.

This is the surprising news. I went in and the girl told me that the price has raised to $500 now because of the demand. Apparently, Hong Kong and Japan has ran outta stock. I mean, what does that have to do with me? If you promised me 330 then it's 330, I don't care if the price has gone up cuz promise is a promise. It was verbally and "visually" agreed (on the receipt.)

Basically, they gave me two promises but both were broken.
(1) The phone did not arrive on time (Although it didn't get on my nerves TOO much)
(2) They promised me and wrote on the receipt that it will cost me $330, but now because the phone is outta stock everywhere, they had to take away an extra $170 more away from me, or possibly from other customers too who wanted the same phone.

I have to mention about one the staff who works there. I went in to take a look at a phone, after I thought I should think about it first because I mean, you don't wanna buy the wrong phone. And then the sales was like, "I suggest if you wanna get the phone, you should do so asap cuz I mean, Christmas is coming and the prices might be higher and there might not be a phone available." BULLCRAP! Now, I understand that's the role of a sales. But I mean, cut that crap.

Well, in the end I don't wanna argue cuz they will keep telling me the same crap. I requested to get my deposit back, took the money and bought it somewhere else instead. I waited around 2 months later for the price to get back to around $300 though. If she didn't even want my business, it's ok cuz I can get it somewhere else. But my point is, if any of you are thinking of buying a phone, please think thoroughly!

Bender: Now how about a rose for the lady? Five bucks a pop!
Gary: I'll take one.
Fry: Oh, yeah? Well I want one too.
Bender: Eight bucks.
Fry: But you just said--
Bender: Demand suddenly skyrocketed. You all saw it!

Glad you walked away from it.

It was verbally and "physically" agreed on the receipt.
Sounds like sexual things were involved

But seriously, I hope you weren't surprised. 99% of Pmall is sketchy, so this kind of BS is expected.

I had a very bad client experience from Pmall phone store as well. I think the store calls PC Gate, the young kid (the salesperson) was giving me attitude and I walked out from the store. I never buying any phones from pmall, I was just accompany a friend to go.

I will never walk in that store again.

That sucks to hear. I found the cell phone prices there at Pac Mall not even that great. I find it more convenient and cheaper to buy from eBay and RFD forums, even for the latest models after shipping and import duty taxes. And best of all you pay with credit card on eBay, so no risk of getting scammed (just use caution and know when to chargeback, etc). You're lucky you actually got your deposit back.

I remember when I was at Pac Mall walking around comparing prices for the model I was looking for, about half a dozen people came into the stores to ask whether they carry iphone or not. Now everyone knows if they want a brand new iphone the cheapest/safest place to get it is on RFD forums with everyone upgrading/renewing their contract for a cheap iphone and reselling them here. I think those stores cater to newbies only, or those who don't know about RFD and afraid to buy on eBay.

Agree, I never buy any cell phones from retail. They are overpriced.

The people buying phones from pmaill is the people that doesn't deal online and they prefer to buy thru an actual stores.

Jacking up the price from 330$ to 500$ is just not acceptable. The receipt or the commitment means nothing if they can sell at any price they want at any time, what they care is how much money they can make off you.

there's a bunch of cell phone stores in pmall (the ~5 that are in that corner) that are all have the same owner

therefore, they feel like they can boss you around easily (with high initial quotes). so don't go there without checking on rfd / hofo / ebay first or without having a general idea on how much the phone is worth

haha,i had almost the same experience 2 weeks before. I paid $50 deposit for my phone and they promised it would be available on Sunday. But when i got there and was told it was delayed by the Canadian Customs,so they didn't want to refund the money. For my oppinion, they just played tricks with customers. The owner is a fat guy. The store's name is called "Mobile Phone Store" unit A39,i don't know if it's the same store as you guys described.

Good for you to take your money back and walk away.

The unfortunate thing of dealing with these chinese runned places is that good customer service is a rare and almost nonexsistance.

Yeah. but to me it's a basic principle of doing business, service is just a part of it.

yeah, i wouldn't buy a cell phone from pmall either. lots of online retailers sell for cheaper anyways. they also have a new tactic to sell phones: hire "hot" girls who wear skirts to sell. last few times i've gone cell phone shopping at pmall, the few stores i went to all had a girl as the "sales". she didn't know jack **** about the phone, i asked her a simple question and she had to look through a cheat sheet to find some specs. needless to say, im not going to buy a phone from people who don't know anything.

Softbank has nice phones.. especially the Sharps.

I have the 904sh white but unfortunately it's been collecting dust. lol

The success of PMall is built on low cost and quickness, not service.

They returned the deposit to you because they HAD to, or else they'd be in trouble for baiting you like that.

Nobody can expect decent service at any store at Pacific Mall, even Canada Computers has poor service at its Pacific Mall location.
