View Full Version : What does CanadaPost do if you forgot to put your Apt #?

I recently moved and updated my eBay shipping information accordingly...except I forgot my Apartment number on the new address. Well anyway, I bought something on Sunday and the guy mailed it out today, and I only caught the error after getting my shipment notification. I gave CanadaPost a call but they claimed they were understaffed and could only take care of urgent matters, so I didn't bother staying on the line since I'm not sure if this count as urgent? Or does it?
What exactly will happen to my shipment? Has anyone gone through this before?

If the letter carrier recognizes the name he will put it to the right number, if not it is returned to sender as incomplete adress. Keep in mind if its not the regular carrier, because of holidays or sick it could be returned also.
If it is a bigger parcel, drivers will deliver it, and they can only go off of the caller board to dial tenants, if name not on board it would be returned also.

Yes, call them again, screw their voice recording, just stay on the line.
If it's a package requiring signature, then it'll probably get returned to sender or return to their depot/sorting centres?!
If it's a letter, they usually leave it somewhere outside all the mailboxes for people to look. (at least that's what i've noticed)

As has been said, if the carrier knows the route well and recognizes the name, you'll likely receive the package.
If not, it's going to be sent back.
This info is reliable, as I'm on the other side of the mailbox as a letter carrier :)

The carrier will likely match it up with the rest of the mail coming that day. Hopefully you get a lot of mail, so your name is noticeable :).

well i'm assuming it's a package that you bought off eBay? Does CanadaPost deliver to your door if it's an apartment? If so then just make sure your name is listed with an Entry Code downstairs.

Yes my name is listed downstairs on the board exactly how my name will be on the package. I haven't received any mail here yet so the guy/girl delivering won't be familiar with me, but hopefully they'll try to buzz anyway ? :)
Thanks guys, you've given me some hope in actually receiving my package :)

FYI: Canada Post support staff (not letter carriers) have been on strike since November 17. I wouldn't waste my time calling them.

tomorrow if you can go down and wait for the postman to deliver tommorow's mail explain to him/her your situation maybe he can help you out. Maybe leave him/her a note.
Have any of you guys seen The Stupids with Tom Arnold when he thinks that Sender (from Return to Sender) is an actual person lol.

They returned it to the sender :( It was a really heavy package so the guy is going to have to pay a fortune to re-ship it. I think that it will cost them quite a bit to ship it back to him, too. This really sucks. AND I won't get it before Christmas.
