Here is the HK subway (MTR) logo:

http://www.unlawyer.net/photos/ipap-photos/The%20Hong%20Kong%20MTR%20logo%20on%20display%20ou tside%20the%20Tung%20Chung%20MTR%20Station%20build ing.jpg

The one in Shenzen (a city 30 mins North of HK) is almost the exact same, but has a 2nd vertical red line down the middle.

I couldn't find the logo on Google or Flickr, but maybe a Google Ninja could find one to show you guys.v

Is it due to:

1) MTR partnering with Shenzen gov't to create the subway?
2) China's standard symbol for subway? (Not sure if Beijing has the same, to)
3) Just lazy designers?

MTR did take part in *some* of the Shenzhen lines, but that shouldn't be the reason why the logos look so much alike. Beijing subway's logo is totally different, not to say that clinging to certain standards is not exactly the Chinese way these days. But then to be fair, logos of subway around the world are kind of similar: they either consist of the letter M or some rail-like lines.

LOL! Very true. And it shows how out of touch TTC have been. At first sight, you would thought it's a futuristic design in line of Brazil or Metropolis; but the truth is, it is indeed archaic.

For some reason, I still like London's Underground logo most.

The 50% of the people here are Chinese with 70% of that from HK so.. I'm pretty sure some people care :P

BTW I made those numbers up but if we had a sensus I'm sure I'm not far off considering those numbers are of the people I've dealt with on the BST :P

Why not let us know about your next bowel movement as well?

Okay, a little bit of history.

The Hong Kong we come to know consists of not only Hong Kong island, but also Kowloon peninsula and a larger piece of land called New Territories adjacent to Shenzhen.

- Legally (from the British perspective), Hong Kong island was ceded in 1840s due to the notorious Opium War (first), and made a Crown colony.

- 20 years later, Kowloon peninsula was also ceded because of the 2nd Opium War.

- In 1898, New Territories were "leased" to the British for 99 years (ending in 1997),

HOWEVER, all these cessions were taken as unequal treaties (backed by Imperialist military forces) by the Chinese. As a result, when it's time to negotiate the end of "lease" in 1980s, China demanded the return of ALL of Hong Kong (incl. Kowloon and New Territories); AND the British KNEW very well that the small island could NOT survive by itself and gave in.

Socially, the people of Hong Kong have ALWAYS considered themselves Chinese. Politically, Hong Kong has ALWAYS been "friendly" to China (Finlandization at work).

In short, Hong Kong has ALWAYS been a part of China, de facto or even de jure.
