I just added up how much I spent on 8 coworkers and it came to about $250.
What do you give your co workers and your bosses and how much do you spend on them?

Spending on what, gifts? For coworkers and bosses? Is that a new trend or did I miss the memo? No one I've ever worked with, or worked for, has ever participated in or suggested any type of gift giving... (ie, my answer for the sumtotal of my career is nothing, $0.)

I will give my co-op supervisor something, perhaps $30-50 worth... although if it wasn't Christmas I'd still get something

This kind of thing seems unnecessary where I work.
So it will be $0.

$50.00 for my old boss because he really helped me when I came upon hard times and it was because of him that I got my job in the first place. He's also a family friend.
As for everyone else, nothing.

$0. I don't buy into the notion of giving gifts to the boss or coworkers.

I see there are a lot of cheapa$$es here. Only the beautiful drucillica seems to be a the giver in the group.
I gave some people gift cards and then one of the bosses told me it is against policy to take this and said they cannot accept.

I gave my boss a p&s canon that I found on special, and two of my favorite coworkers (have done a lot of extra work and pushed our project to new heights) received msi winds. Other coworkers and support staff received chocolate, flowers, dx gadgets. Total cost was around 900$

I spent about $150 on 10 people. I pick a theme each year, and this xmas was booze gifts. I bought a case of red wine, and a couple bottles of cocktail mixes (cosmo's and mojito). The big boss gets the hard stuff, and everyone else gets the wine.
Last year I gave out BodyShop stuff (except to the guys, who got Tim cards). Picking one type of thing just makes it easier.

What the...
I'm shocked that people buy gifts for each other at work :P I don't even get a gift for my friends, we just do a secret santa so I don't have to buy as much.
Sheesh, this is crazy

Wow, just a tad creepy.
If you bothered to read the thread at all you'd see there are several posters that give gifts to their coworkers, besides your beloved drucillica.

Stick with secret santa at work; Hats off to all those people who are spending hundreds of $$ for co-workers and friends. You guys either really love them or have lots of $$ to blow. I actually donate money and toys to toy drives and charities more than buy presents for friends.

The first few that replied were definitely the bunch that look for freebie's. It seems that others do share in the Christmas spirit.
I just find in large corps that you give a few things to people and they take care of you when the time comes :)
Like that old expression: Its not what you know, but who you know that gets you where you need to go. :)

How about a card with the message "A donation has been made in your name to the Human Fund".

Nothing this year the place I worked for went bankrupt on the Dec 2nd so no gifts for them, nothing but coal!!!
I agree with the poster who suggested looking after people who can help you. I used to give gifts of homemade chocolates to the managers or owners of all the stores on my route, since the owners of the business I worked for never gave them anything. It used to cost about 100.00 bucks for ingredients and a whole day to make and package. It was worth the effort.... When new owners bought the business 3yrs ago and they wanted to let me go me so their son could take my job. EVERYONE of my customers told the new owner if he dared to fire me, they were going to go drop him as a supplier!!!! Doesn't matter now though. LOL

Secret Santa at work. Optional participation. Max $15.
I didn't spend anything extra for it. I grabbed some beer that I no longer want from my stash at home and gave that.

I don't consider myself a cheapass since I seriously don't know what to get people on my team. My team mates aren't even in the same city as me and I've only seen them a handful of times. People I sit next to well, unless I switch positions there is no way I will be working with/for them. Besides my manager (which I gave choclate to) I only gave people I am friends with at work (at other departments) cookies I baked. I tend to only give to people that I'm close with or work with/for.
For those that spend a lot on their co-workers and managers...how do you keep it up! Do they buy stuff for you?
