I'm looking at buying a used car from a dealer in Ontario. I live in Alberta. I could of course ask the sales guy but they're closed right now.

I am curious as to how it works for PST. Do dealers charge it automatically or does the motor vehicles people get it when you go to register it?

ON dealer charges PST and puts an ON temporary transit permit on the car so you can get it home. You get PST refunded by the (ON government) when you plate the car in Alberta. There's a refund form on the Ont gov. website for this.

The alternative is to buy the car first in ON, then get the plates in AB yourself and courier them back to the dealer in ON. There's some logistics issues here though.

Thanks for the info!

The dealer is open now so I can talk with him but I really appreciate your reply. :)

Do you have a link to the form? But for a new car.
