one of the best shows ever.

FWIW, Future Shop has the blu-ray version of Lost 4 for $50.99 after the 15% F&F sale (ends tomorrow at noon). That is much cheaper than blu-rays of the first 3 seasons!

Awfully tempting...

"Lost" is the perfect name for that show because anyone who tries to make any sense of it soon becomes lost. Even the producers appreciate that it is so confusing that you need to explanations for everything scrolling across the bottom of the screen.

It is truly awful.

Hyperbole much?

It's not as confusing as you make it out to be. It just has a six degrees of separation type theme, not sure what you can't make sense of.

When bad guys become good guys (Lost, Heroes, 24) then the show has run out of steam. Just wrap it up JJ.

Must be the DVD edition. The Blu-Ray disks are scanning for $59.9x at the nearest Walmart here -- they are out early. Season 4 also has a save $20 on a previous season coupon on them (when purchased together). You could get both Blu-Ray seasons tomorrow for around $120 + taxes.

Pretty great deal for an awesome series.

Did season 1 and 2 ever come out on Blu-Ray? I know 3-5 are available, but I've never seen 1 and 2 anywhere.

It's my understanding that they want to see what type of sales are driven by Season 3 and 4's Blu-Ray releases to gauge whether a release of Season 1 and 2 is justified.

Actually, they have already announced that Lost will end after the sixth season (2009-2010).

That makes sense. Blu-Ray user base is pretty small. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Have you actually watched the show? Season 4 was widely acclaimed to be possibly the best season of lost ever...definitely at least the second best season.

I can understand that some people who don't really watch the show on a consistent basis can get lost in the complex mythology. This is not your typical drama such as 24 or CSI when you can just randomly watch any episode. This is a serialized show and one that builds upon information presented in prior episodes and it does take a bit of intelligence and memory work to keep track of it all. It does take a bit of dedication to go back and view old episodes again and again, but when the show is so well written, it is not a hard thing to do. But I can understand that this type of committment is not everyone's cup of tea.

However, when I see unfair statements like the one that you made about "running out of steam", it makes me a bit ticked because it is so rare that we get television shows of this quality that I would hate to think that networks would be afraid to be so daring again in the future if this is the type of feedback that they hear. The quality of acting is superb, the setting of Hawaii is spectacular, the cinematography cannot be matched on network television, and the overall story is really good. You will not be able to find a bad review of season 4 on the web.

Great show!

For anyone who is confused or having trouble remembering bits: http://www.lostpedia.com/wiki/Main_Page

Much of the background information fleshing things out beyond what was on screen comes from alternate sources like the game version of Lost and interviews with the writers.

Most intriguing point in the Lostpedia information: insiders on the writers team say that the clearest indication that the whole story was planned out from the beginning will be the revelation of who the skeletal remains nicknamed "Adam and Eve" found in the cave in Season 1 belong to.

As for when to wrap up, Lost actually has a very clear published plan for the series: They switched from flashbacks to flashforwards at the half-way mark.

Great post.

Glad you had the patience to type that out. :)

Its not a show you just take at face value, like 24 or Csi or whatever.

There's so much going on under the surface. Some of my LOST buddies didnt even notice the numbers showing up everywhere.

I HAVE BEEN following the show from the beginning.

If you know anything about network television/ratings/advertiser's CPM/9 week story arcs/television production, you'll realize that the stories are supposed to engage viewership and SELL ADVERTISING within the parameters of financial budgeting and seasonal fluctuations.

Characters have been written off the show because their stories have lead to poor ratings. Story directions have changed to improve viewership. Shows have been re-run with sub-titles and have full episodes of story synopses to re-capture lost viewers.

The point where villains become good guys is usually a signal that the story has run its course and has to shift gears. Sure there is probably an overall plot outline but some of the reversals of characters are frustrating and insulting.

I do believe JJ needs to wrap up the story or else it will become a joke (like the once great then meandering X-Files series) and eventually be labelled the "Sci-Fi Gilligan's Island".

Way to point out that the glass is half empty gmark2000! :)

I enjoy and support shows like Lost where the writers try to tell an extended story with some artistic integrity. Yes of course it's a business and they are in a continuous dynamic conflict with the network and the advertisers who want them to do whatever sells product and doesn't make the viewers think too hard. Networks hate series where each episode has to begin with "Previously on ..." - just ask Joss Whedon. Just be thankful that they succeed part-way, some of the time.

This show is the finest program I have ever viewed on TV. I have seen heroes, 24...I've seen it all...they pale in comparison to Lost.

Lost is like...a hot deal.

I absolutely love 24 but I have to admit that it's a very bad show from a general point of view. Every season of 24 consists of pretty much the same stuff:

1) A terrorist that is usually middle eastern.

2) The US government is somehow against Jack Bauer and are trying to catch him.

3) Jack goes on his own and saves the day.

4) Jack usually goes against CTU's rules or whatever. Even though I think there won't be a CTU anymore in the new season. But same thing will happen.
