View Full Version : Rant: Indicators

I don't think majority of the population has figured out how to use these things.
Is it really that hard to inch your fingers over to push the lever in the appropriate direction when you're turning? it really pisses me off when I'm in the middle of the intersection and I see a car approaching from the other side thinking that it's going straight only to have it slow down and turn without any indication.
Or when I'm behind a car on a two lane street, and the car turns without turning on the indicator. I mean it causes unnecessary delay, wouldn't it be better if the person in front makes an indication of the turn so you could change lanes and not be bothered to slow down to almost a stop for their turn. Or sometimes in the same situation, people turn on the signal AS they are making the turn. wtf?
Another signal related douchebaggery I can't stand is when people turn on their "magical" indicator, thinking that once their indicator is on, they can just blinding turn into the other lane, and nothing would happen. This happens when people need to change lanes. They don't care where the cars are in the other lane, they just signal then count to 2 and turn the wheels. I had someone do this to me last night.
Actually that happened to my friend. Some idiot (b) tried to squeeze in between my friend's car (c) and a car in front of him (a). It looked something like this ( [A] [B] [C]). It was near an intersection, so as Car B was in between the two and, the light turned red. Car A made it through the light, but the idiot B who was in the middle braked and my friend rear ended him. Then the guy B was making a fuss about how my friend didn't keep a proper following distance but later the guy was given a ticket for improper lane change, because some witnesses told the officer what had happened.
End of my rant

Totally agreed on all points, but this frustrates me the most.

How hard is the following sequence?
Turn indicator on. Check blindspot. Turn wheel.
I honestly don't mind if:
Check blindspot. Turn indicator on. Turn wheel; as long as there's a ton of space.
However, what pisses me off, are the people who:
Turn wheel, check blindspot WHILE changing lanes and then turning indicator on AFTER lane has been changed.
I drive on the 400, onto the 401, onto the 403 and sometimes onto the QEW and every single darn time I drive, someone does this and almost either forces me to brake hard, or forcing me to go onto the shoulder.
Can everyone check their blindspots? It only takes a second.

the funny thing is those who dont indicate think they're great drivers.

Another one of the failures of people who can't drive is signalling or the lack thereof.
My pet peeves are those don't signal, don't realize their high beams are on and those who go so slow on passing lanes.

There was a poll about light indication before.
Anyway. I wouldn't trust the guy even he signals. Happened to me a couple of times that I was trying to make a right turn and the guy signal to turn right but decided to go straight instead. This is just one of the examples.
And there are guys forgot to turn off the signal or signal a right but turn left.
Like a truck driver, when making right turn, signal right but swive to the left. They should've signal left instead of right first. At least I've seen some of them doing that.
Just wanna say don't trust the indication light.

*gasp*, you actually expect people to put down their cigarettes, their knitting, or their Tim Hortons, to do something as trivial as driving??
lol

sounds like me, I never signal when needed, and when I do signal then I just change lanes without looking because signaling gives me the right to change lanes. Also sometimes I'll signal for no reason because I like the clicking sound, or I'll signal the wrong way I do that because I'm not sure where I'm going before hand.
Driving like this doesn't bother me one bit so I have no problems with it!

What if I was serious? I've never seen anyone admit anything on these forums during these "rants" we get every week. I'm damn sure there are some guilty people here who are too stupid/ignorant to try and defend themselves. Yet what if someone did? I find these rants getting more useless as it seems we have all discussed this before, and yet nothing will ever ever change!

How about the classic, flip indicator, check blindspot, watch as the idiots accelerate to block your lane.... Keep indicator on, watch as the other lemmings behind aforementioned idiot attempt to form a military style convoy with a gap that atoms would have trouble fitting into.....
Love that one.

I guess no one here has driven in RH? Here's what people there do before any turns: Brake almost to a stop, move to turn lane, signal. The funny thing is that most turns on RH's main streets have left and right turn lanes. So if you see a whole bunch of red lights ahead, you know someone is making a turn.
For some reason people there think the brake lights are turn indicators. What makes it worse is that they DO NOT move to the turning lane when there's broken lines, they wait until the line is solid to switch. Of course, that's almost where the light is so they have to make a sharper turn and end up blocking 2 lanes.
I see this every day on my way to the GO Train station and on my way home. :(
Also, the slowest drivers never seem to signal nor stop at stop signs. I guess they think driving slow makes them really good drivers that there's no need for such things.

You got that right, driving around the Lower Mainland is crazy...there are a lot of people around here who truly do not deserve to have a license to drive.

hahah thats like that movie shoot em up,
where clive owen gets extremely pissed because people don't use indicators, then he smokes them with his car.
Mr. Smith: I move my finger one inch to use my turn signal. Why are these *******s so lazy they can't move their finger one ****ing measly inch to drive more safely? You wanna know why?
DQ: Not particularly.
Mr. Smith: Because these rich bastards have to be callous and inconsiderate in the first place to make all that money, so when they get on the road, they can't help themselves. They've gotta be callous and inconsiderate drivers too. It's in their nature.

there are also those people that start to slow down on a main road, and so you think they just didn't turn on their signals and are about to turn onto the road/driveway up ahead but instead they come to a complete stop... and THEN they turn on their emergency lights... 5 seconds later

I used to say that about Victoria drivers, I don't anymore. The drivers here are far worse than anything i encountered in BC. Do anyone in Ontario NOT tailgate, for example? It at least partly explains the exorbitant insurance rates in Ontario, few here know how to drive.

I hate it when you're sitting behind someone at the light and expect them to move when the light turns green but instead they inch into the intersection then proceed to signal left. This always seems to happen when opposite traffic is super packed. Stupid motherfockers!

I will have to agree with you on this one... when I try to make it out to the next exit while getting off the 401 express (i.e. 401 Eastbound & Kennedy Road, or 401 Eastbound & Markham Road), these fools never want to let people in...
I'll admit it, I'm one of the guys who will signal and give people ample time that I intend to make that lane change... (3 - 4 seconds worth) if they want to speed up just so they can get ahead of me and I cut them off, really too bad... I have no sympathy for inconsiderate people.
Similarly if they leave me the gap and let me in, I will raise a hand to thank them.

Speaking of which, I saw at least a dozen people last week signaling the wrong direction (ie: Signal left when he was turning right), signaling for 2 minutes without turning, and worst yet, a guy was signaling left on the left lane, and suddenly switched to right-signal, and cuts off 2 lanes to make a right turn (the middle, and the right side lane. 3 if you count the right turn lane)... wow.

I feel you lol.. Happened to me 2 days ago also. Altho he didn't really do anything wrong, because that lane is still a straight lane and not a dedicated turn lane

No, it's just wrong! And I always wish that the exact same thing would happen to them for the entire day and see how they like it.

Never watched that movie, but awesome quote. And I just seen that clip. Awesome I'mma do that sometime.
Funny, that same thing happened to me the other day. When the guy made his turn, I honked and yelled out the window go f yourself mr. audi
I mean I drive with my left hand, and do whatever with my right - that makes signalling unconscious.
