With the automobile market so competitive and the economy getting tighter, I thought it might be appropriate to have a thread where posters can share the best incentives that they have found. It may be cash back, discounted financing or a combination of both. Share your findings. here.

From hybrids to SUVs, unsold cars pile up (Toyota has 23 acres of unsold cars)
By Nichola Groom

LONG BEACH, California (Reuters) – From pricey luxury sedans to popular hybrid cars, automobiles made overseas are stacking up at ports and parking lots around the United States as supplies far outstrip demand amid the nation's worst auto market in more than 25 years.

At the Long Beach port near Los Angeles, Toyota Motor Corp vehicles including Prius hybrids, FJ Cruiser sport utility vehicles and Lexus IS 250 luxury sedans are being stored on a vast construction site that will one day be a new container terminal.

The site became a gigantic parking lot when Toyota and Daimler AG's Mercedes-Benz asked the port for space to store thousands of vehicles that dealerships have not been able to take on due to sluggish sales.

"It's unusual that they would be here longer than a few days, but that's the situation now," said Art Wong, a spokesman for the Port of Long Beach. "They can't move it through their pipeline fast enough so they are asking for additional space while they keep their vehicles here more than a few days, and in some cases more than a few weeks."

The port has not counted how many additional cars were being stored, but Wong said Toyota has leased an additional 23 acres of space while Mercedes-Benz has leased about 20 more acres.

Nissan Motor Co Ltd, which brings its cars in through the neighboring Los Angeles port, had been talking to Long Beach about leasing space, Wong said, though that arrangement fell through.

A Port of Los Angeles spokeswoman, Theresa Adams-Lopez, said Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics (WWL), which operates the terminal that brings in Nissan's vehicles, had shifted vehicle storage to another state.

Nissan spokeswoman Katherine Zachary said the company last increased its space at the Port of Los Angeles in February.

"As a normal course of business, we've got cars moving out of there all the time to various points across the country," Zachary said in an e-mail.

WWL, which is based in Norway, would not comment on specific customers, but said auto inventories were building up across the United States.

"We are seeing cargo buildup at ports of entry on both coasts as well as at other inventory points such as factories and rail yards and dealerships," Christopher Connor, the head of WWL's business in the Americas, said in a statement.

I wish all the manufacturers would make these available publicly (ie on their website)...I know some in the US do! If you go to the local dealers they hide them and think its some top secret document. Thanks for posting!!

Anything is possible now-a-days. If you are serious in getting one, just put in an offer and see what the dealership says.

This incentive from a Belgian Car dealer :

BRUSSELS, Belgium — The Cardoen auto dealership, based in the historic city of Antwerp, sells about 10,000 new and close-to-used cars per year. Despite its size and stature, Cardoen is having as much trouble selling product as anyone else in the current economic downturn. The solution: the dealership is taking a page from the grocery-store playbook and offering a "buy one, get one free" deal on cars.

The promotion allows customers to pick from a full range of new vehicles starting around $30,000, and then choose a second free vehicle carrying a price tag up to $18,000. Most people capitalizing on the deal have given the "free" car away to a family member, while others have plans of selling off the second vehicle immediately. Cardoen will keep the deal going until December 15.

Wow the Shelby has really fallen off the perch. How things have changed. I remember a few short months ago dealers would'nt let you look at them unless you were prepared to agree to a significant "market adjustment" OVER MSRP.

Our world is changing quickly. Just a few short years ago I paid real world pricing $46k for trucks that today could be bought for around $28k or less.

Yes this information is not meant to be shown publicly, I think(and its possible I may regret posting it down the road...lol) but I figured, at work, I keep my program sheets in a binder opened on my desk and since I allow all my customer's to look at it(and my managers have not said anything to me), it'd wouldn't be much different here, so I scaned and posted.

Take an 08 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo Diesel 4x4, it shows that you get employee pricing (approx 7% off) plus additional $10,000 consumer discount/rebate off. You see some salespeople/dealership you may go to for example may give you say, $2000 off, but then you counter with what you think is a crazy offer of another $5000 off, of course the salesperson is able to accept and because $7000 is not the maximum discount they could give you, they could easily accept your offer. I don't know maybe I'm still too new at this...lol. But the approach I take with all my customer is the open approach, so when it comes to negotiating a price I go through the program sheets with the customer and show them what all the discounts I have available that I could pass on, I don't believe in using the lines "Oh, I just remember theres another rebate or whatever".

You are one of a few that cares more for the customer than the sometimes greedy pockets of the dealer (NOT all of them...some!). I commend you and all the best in your future sales! Every customer should really do their homework and find out what ALL the cashbacks that are applicable. THen you take the cashbacks off MSRP and then that's where the haggling really starts at......

Sorry deleted info rather than edit and did'nt bother reposting. However yesterday saw the current cashbacks for the vehicle I was looking for. On 2008 trucks , 1/2T regular or extended cab $9000K cashback with financing plus the stackable $2K bonus cash for a total of $11K.....as compared to a cashback of $7K (I recall but not certain) for the 09. BUT the trick is not taking the cashback in the form of a cash deal on the 08's (it's only like $6K); you have to take the larger cashback applied to a finance! More expensive you think....not! Then lies the trick which I will can share with youvia PM if you're interested........

ps-if you're considering 08's better act fast as they are becoming rare

depends on how the big3 will go. If one goes belly up, the domino effect will happen. The US unions fault. They know they're overpaid, they just don't want to let go. The long term solution if the overhead costs can't be cut is file for Ch11 in the states.

That's where the big sales will happen.

Currently the inventory glut is accumulating. Wait for it to burst.

It's only in the early stages. Give until Jan to Mar to see where US auto sales are. Should continue to go down by another 20%.

From there, you and I can go down to the states, they will sell us their cars. Any brand with warranty.
You waive food to a lion who's gone hungry. What do you think? That is if you still have your USD when fx'd them when we were at or above par.

Thank you for putting the customer first, T-Man, and I hope you don't get any flak over it. The salesman I dealt with at my local Honda dealership did something similar--he didn't show me any special incentives for the car I eventually bought (a Fit), but it was selling like hotcakes at the time (in the US, used Fits sold for more than new ones, and even new ones had $2000 US markups in some places) so there maybe weren't any. He did, however, open up his book and showed me exactly what the invoice price to the dealership was, and his opening bid to me was roughly halfway between that and the sticker price.

Up to that point, I was reading here and elsewhere that the invoice price was nigh impossible to get out of the dealership, that you had to pay APA or CarCostCanada.ca to get them (granted, those also got you the dealer incentives as well).

I eventually did buy from that dealership; a few calls and emails to others in my area didn't leave me with good impressions, though I managed to wrangle a price out of one of them which let me negotiate my final price down just a bit more.

I thank you for your honesty T-Man. I also think the manufacturers should disclose incentives as the dealers can still barter with the standard dealer mark-up. It is this lack of disclosure that gives the industry a bad name when buyers discover after the fact that they lost out on incentives that they should have received.

i'd say that the price is more likely to go up. lexus repriced their vehicles in feb-08 when the dollar was more or less at par. now that the cad$ has dropped like a stone, i think there will be repricing on the way.

the rx350 is going up from 42,950 (for the 2009 model year) to about 55,000 for the redesigned 2010 rx350 ...
