So i was looking around and found that linksys offer these antenna

j/w if anyone used them or know if its worth it?

I only see them on ebay for like 25~ a pair (from HK) so i of course check deal extreme if they carry any but sadly they don't

http://cgi.ebay.ca/Linksys-HGA7T-7dbi-High-Gain-TNC-Antenna-Kit-for-WAP54G_W0QQitemZ220320199309QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCOM P_HN_Network_Adapters?hash=item220320199309&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1215|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A13 18

wrt54gl is kind of weak in my house i use the tomato firmware to boost it but still not a great of improvement. I can not get wifi on my first floor kitchen being the router is on the second

i tho about getting a N router but then again there is no customization like the firmwares out there for wrt54gl and N draft router isn't finalized yet

well if you're willing to spend the money on a second wrt54gl, there's always wireless bridging or WDS to extend the range of your network

with any wifi.
any wall with water pipes. or a washroom taht sits between your router and your computer will greatly degrade your signal.my only suggestion would be to put your router on the top floor. and buy a hi gain antenna.

1. I've seen high gain antennas for sale in the surplus section at Princess Auto for about $20 a pair. You might want to check there.

2. I've seen Linksys routers with bad radios that have the same problem you describing - short range, works on one floor but not on the floor above/below. Borrow another router from a friend and see if it has better range.

I was wondering where my post went... Weird. Maintenance problems maybe? >.<

I've seen that wifi antenna hack. I have tried some other DIY high grain antenna, and haven't always been successful. Plus, some of them looked really ghetto. I just bought the HGA7T set and got on with my life. :D

Princess Auto is selling these for $9.99 each:
http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee149/l69norm/anten1.jpg
http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee149/l69norm/Antenna.jpg
Flat panel with 11 dbi gain, about 4" square with 4 ft LMR 100A cable and mcx, sma and tnc connectors
Manufacturer : Office Essentials p/n F5D6902 - owned by Belkin
Princess Auto p/n 8242943.

I didn't see the omni directional antenna kit that they use to carry.

EDIT : Don't buy these flat panels. I just tested these and they are terrible. The stock Linksys antennas had better performance. The signal level was at best almost the same as the stock antenna and was was 2-3 db less a lot of the time. Tested with a WRT54GL and DD-WRT at 85 mW and 150 mW. Also tried with one and two flat panels and there was no difference.
