I'm pretty much bent on canceling my Bell landline this month and was wondering if there are other cheaper voip provider alternatives to vbuzzer. It seems the $50/year is a very good deal though some have touted freephoneline on RFD as a cheaper alternative at a one-time cost if $50 though I'm not sure how long a company with this business model will last.

Can I actually get the freephoneline config file for free so I can test it out? LOL Or will I really have to fork the $50? I already have my unlocked PAP2-NA device sitting here for a week.

I've written off voipbuster and voipstunt as their free calls to Taiwan and China are misleading because they start charging calls after 120 days. I might as well use vbuzzer for Taiwan calls since they will be infrequent.

With freephoneline, I guess I will not be able to call Taiwan or China for cheap anyway which makes me lean more towards vbuzzer.

Thanks for all your advices.

:?: Should I go with Vbuzzer of Freephoneline? The former is US$50/year while the latter is C$50 one time though I'm not sure if it will be around for too long with its business model.

Hey!

I just dont trust "free alternatives" to last for very long, so I tried to get a company is cheap, but that sounds like it CAN last so I dont have to change my local phone number every few months.

Here's what I'm using:

Day to day = Unlimitel.ca , 2.50$ / motnh + 1.1 cents per minute ... 11 hours amounts to about 10$ a month. Call quality is awesome.

Long distance: nonoh.net ... a betamax company (there might be better deals around, but I've been using them for a year and am happy with it). You can even get your pap2 to connect to them directly.

Basically, you pay 10 euros (16$) and get 120 "free days" .. after that it's a few cents a minute... simply refill every 120 days and use the 10 euro credit to call mobiles in asia/europe.

Taiwan (Landline) SuperDeal!** FREE* FREE*
Taiwan (Mobile) 0.035 0.042

I think freephoneline is bust. My freephoneline still works. But there is no support or e-mail replies from them.

That doesn't sound good. Thanks for letting us know.

I might go with Vbuzzer then because it seems to be the cheapest unlimited calling alternative. How hard is it to set up my PAP2 adapter to work with Vbuzzer?

They have tutorials on their website with images on how to configure. I think It's similiar to ACANAC or any other voip provider out there.

Wonder if they'll bring their $25 deal from last year around Feb'09

I sure hope so because freephoneline.ca customer service sucks big time. I called Tuesday and Wednesday to sign up but no one ever got back to me. Shame on their sales department!!!

Anyone have good experiences to share about vbuzzer? I think I'll be pulling the trigger soon as I've been paying $25 to bell and $5 for the dry loop since November.

I have been using VBuzzer for 1.5 years, so far no complaints...
It's hard to find another service provider with this good quality of calls (even get a local 416 # when making long distance call to asia) and this kind of price.. In the past, I used calling cards but it's too trouble and it actually adds up.. with Vbuzzer, I just paid an annual fee and I can call anytime I want.. amazing isn't it?

That's good news. I've been trying to get in touch with freephoneline to no avail. Vbuzzer it is then. Goodbye Bell.
