This iPod 3.5mm to Dock Connector Audio Cable allows you to play music from your iPod through your AUX connection, computer, or notebook. The dock connector sends line level audio out from your iPod, providing better sound quality then when using the headphone jack. The dock connector also allows you to control the volume of your iPod through your stereo or computer instead of having to adjust the volume on the iPod. This cable works with all iPods with a dock connector, and the lightweight construction makes it easy to take it anywhere you go.
- Connect your iPod to your AUX in connection, home stereo, computer, or laptop
- Dock connector produces line-level audio providing better sound quality then using the iPod headphone jack
- Light-weight construction is ideal for travel
- 48" cable length
- Compatible with all iPods that feature a dock connector
Does anyone know where they sell this locally?

Chinese replicas are available on eBay, and the same products can be found at all those cell phone stores scattered around the GTA, as well as in flea markets.

1. headphone out is amped... so it means its been "filtered" once and if it goes into another receiver, it will be amped again. making the audio more distorted
2. apple dock wont connect ur line out to a 3.5 jack. u need something like the picture that op posted.

Since I'm in a good mood I did some research for you...
Nyko Stereo Link for iPod
$29.95
http://www.carbonation.com/sales/ipod1.html
Carbon Computing has them on their web site. Enjoy.
That one has RCA's on the end, but you can use an adaptor.
OR
Look for a Pocket Dock, and then just use a 1/8 to 1/8 cable.

I was thinking about the dock, I wonder if it would give me the same quality.

Well I don't have the other to compare it too, but I find it give good quality. Plus the one I use came with the remote so you can control the music from across the room.

idk, it been about 3 years since I bought it. My first ipod came with one, and I think I got the complete AV kit the second time, so I currently have two. One is hooked up to my PC, the other to my stereo.

The advantage of the dock is that you can play videos out as well as audio. Some IPOds (eg Nano2 for sure) wont send video out unless they detect an authorized apple chip (which is included in the dock)

I dont really care about movies as this will be mainly for the car.
To be honest the wire would probably be the best option as opposed to the dock. I want it to look clean, and easily concealable. When i installed my aux imput cable, I made it so the wire comes through the sun glass holder.
This is how it looks now, which is perfect for me....except I want the sound quality the cable I posted will give me.

Its such a shame that in a big city like Toronto, its impossible to find such a wire.

My only suggestion would be this https://www.expansys.ca/p.aspx?i=111993
On the plus side you would be able to use a black cable with it.

It has a 3.5mm jack on it, as I mentioned before, and you dont appear to be having much luck finding anything else in Toronto.

That's what I use, plus a stand. There is a 3.5mm jack on the adapter for audio out, and I use a short, maybe 15cm cable to plug in. Big big stores should have them.

Apparently they come in a version with only a firewire cable port, oops. That one has a line out.
Carbon should be able to order it, if they dont stock them. Same with any mac dealer.

If you know how to solder, try this:
iPhone LOD pinout: http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f6/does-anyone-have-iphone-lod-pinout-308093/
cheap dock connectors: http://home.swipnet.se/ridax/connector.htm
I made one for my iTouch nice and cheap. Not sure if the same pins apply to the iPhone, but for the iTouch 2G tying pin 11 to ground (15) worked.
