Ok, I got a couple 160Gb Acomdata external hard drives for backup purpose. Now I'm running out of space as I already have 3 internal drives, and those two older 160Gbs aren't enough for backup even a portion of the stuff. Can I actually pop open those beautiful metal Acomdata cases and put in a newer larger HDD? Or it makes sense to buy a new enclosure for larger HDD?

I love those high quality look of the Acomdata fanless cases, thus thinking about re-using them.

Why not buy a 1TB drive to replace your 3 old drives? They can be had for cheap nowadays.

If the Acomdata external drives are old, they may use IDE hard drives. Yes, you can put in a larger IDE hard drive but chances of finding large ones for a good price is hard.

If you're lucky enough to have a SATA one, then, by all means, buy a larger SATA hard drive and pop it in.

I think you're right, not worth it to buy older IDE drives. As for my internal drives, all 3 are 500Gb SATA drives. I think maybe I should simply buy a larger internal one, pop one of the 500Gb out and buy it an enclosure...
