Hi guys, I just switched to Teksavvy this morning and I was having problems configuring my Speedtouch 516 and Wrt54gl. I'm able to put it into routed or bridge mode (right now I'm in routed), but I can't seem to get my modem to connect to my router. It just doesn't work with the router, but it works as a standalone.
And to top it off, I changed my router's address from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.10.1 because I read it on some board and now it doesn't work.

I'm using Tomato firmware.
Help me please

Only problem is that 90% of those posts go over my head lol..
I'm pretty keen on some things, but the nuts & bolts of internet connections =

for the modem.

1. disconnect all cables.
2. connect only the modem to your computer and power up.
3. pop in the cd that came with the modem.
4. configure the modem with the following settings.

LAN ip = whatever you want. just make sure it is on the same subnet as the router lan settings.
bridged LLC non routed
vpi/vci = 0.35
disable NAT
disable dhcp routing
disable firewall

for the router.

1. go to fixppp.org and download the latest firmware.
2. disconnect all cables
3. connect only your router and powerup
4. access your modem via internet explorer and type in address 192.168.1.1 press enter. username/password is root/admin
5. click administration --> upgrade --> browse... then select the newly downloaded firmware you got from fixppp.org
6. click upgrade and wait.
7. once the upgrade is done. do one nvram flush by going to configuration --> restore default configuration --> erase all data in nvram memory (thorough).

once this is done connect the modem to the router and all cables. power up the modems first. wait for dsl sync. then power up the router. and configure the router. everything should work fine. be sure to disable all the settings on the modem that i posted.

I am using teksavvy with same modem and a wbr 1310 router.

1. Connect modem directly to PC, no router. Access router web site (192.168.1.254). Run the Setup wizard and set it to bridged mode, and 0.35 protocol (vci or some such). Disable DHCP server functions.

2. Connect PC to LAN port on router. Connect WAn port on router to modem.
Access the routers web page. Set it for internet connection as dynamic PPPoE. Enable DHCP server, NAT and DNS relay. Use the router to establish a connection and check your connection status to make sure you have acquired teksavvy DNSes.

3. In windows XP, set your TCP/IP properties to obtain IP automatically.

If this doesn't work, there is a 2nd option to let the modem handle routing functions, and use the router as a hub.

incorrect.
we want the router to handle all routing. the modem is set to dummy bridged mode only. make sure your disabled NAT in the modem as well.

How do you get into the modem. I set mine up with out going into the modem and just setting up the router and im not throttled. Should I leave it be or do what you said to do with the modem.

Thanks, this worked. My question is though, with Bridged, doesn't that mean you cannot access your modem anymore?
And is fixppp the same as tomato? I'm downloading a torrent right now and getting about 650kb/s and I haven't done anything for mlppp yet.

Thanks again.

no bridged juss means the device will pass thru any data it sends and recieves down to the next device that is doing all the routing.
you can still access the modem if you like via lan ip. you can set all that up in the modem. you can still access the modem behind the router if you setup your modem to have the same subnet as the router lan subnet.

fixppp.org is the homepage for tomato mlppp. its the homepage of its authors. if you need to update or want more news on the mlppp tomato firmware movement. you can get all the updates here as well as technical support and info.

So this would maybe give me higher speeds. Because im not being throttled anymore yet not going above 300kb/s on my torrents?

well heres a question. log into your modem via the browser and see what your modem is sycning at.
also let your bt runs for a least an hour most trackers have their seeding prefs to a first come first serve priority setup. however you are not throttled anymore clearly cuz the standard throttle bt speeds would be 30down and 30up

Is there any other way to do it? I cant find my cd that came with it.

Throttling happens between 4:30pm and 2am. Try again then with and without mlppp, you should see a difference.

go to the thomson website and download the cd wizard.

or the long way is to connect the modem to the computer directly and click start then run. type cmd and hit enter.

then type ipconfig then press enter.

the modems ip adress will be listed under default gateway.

pop that ip address in your internet browser and you should get a login screen.

Am I supposed to be getting full speeds with MLPPP?
Im getting about 100kb/s-250kb/s.. With the settings posted on the first page by infamouskid.

you will not achieve full speed due to overhead.
all broadband works like that.
you will achieve max speed available based on your server tracker and the amount of seeders.

infamouskid: Thanks for your detailed instructions for setting up tomato/mlpp in another thread. I am up and running with it, but the only prob I have is with, like the OP, connecting to modem through the router.

LAN ip = whatever you want. just make sure it is on the same subnet as the router lan settings.
bridged LLC non routed
vpi/vci = 0.35
disable NATdisable dhcp routing
disable firewall

I made all those changes except for the LAN ip. I have tried to make some changes as instructed by others to different ips and subnets but nothing has worked. I think I must be inputting info into incorrect places or something. How/where can I change that and what exactly should it be? I understand nothing about subnets and ips and lans. Could you be more explicit?

My router's address is 192.168.1.1 (wrt54gl)
Modem is 'supposed to' be accessed at 192.168.1.254 (st516)

I have no cd drive so the cd is useless.

make sure both router and modem share the same subnet address. if they do not you cannot access anything in front of the router becuase its firewall will kick in.

I caught that part... the problem is that I don't understand it. I know nothing about subnets and where to make those changes.
