Does anyone ever pass the G2 Exit test (to get G license) on the first try? It seems to me that it is a very big money grab! Everyone I've ever spoken to told me they didn't pass on their first try. To be honest, I just took my G driving test yesterday in Brampton and I failed. He told me the reasons why I failed and they seemed so minor but according to him I didn't meet Ministry standards. I know I did almost everything correct and what I did do wrong was inconsequential. When I went to dispatch to check in the MTO guy asked if this was my first attempt and I told him it was. It almost seemed that it was already determined that I would fail just so they could get another $75 from me. Any comments from anyone would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!!

I don't think it's a money grab in a sense that they will fail you automatically on the first try, but it's definitely a money grab. As far as the actual test goes, they DO throw the book at you. You literally have to do everything perfect otherwise they will fail you. I failed on my first shot, and even though I thought I passed with flying colours, the lady that failed me made it seem like I was the worst driver in the world. I was pretty shocked. They have the most anal people doing those exams, but I guess you have to be in order to fail someone for not leaving the recommended car length space between you and another car at a red light.

I got my G on my first try...but failed THREE freaking times on my G2...it's my fault tho...too lazy/cocky to review the driver's manual...so stupid...

hard to say alot of bad drivers out there who would fail today if they had to take it, so either they are coming down harder or not surprising is a cash grab. I failed because I wasn't in the "correct" gear once, pretty lame excuse. Another time was because I didn't downshift to first gear which IMO isn't easy to do when you can't get into first gear unless the car is in stop position. Yeah I was pissed both times, seemed like a cash grab to me!

Part of the problem is the MTO hires people who don't know how to drive manual, then those people go out and supervise the driving test using a manual car. So the instructor simply goes by the letter of the book, which says downshift for hills. If they don't see you downshifting, they think you're doing something wrong according to the book, while in all reality, it's pretty rare to need to downshift into first gear when not completely stopped.
As with all government departments, they don't know how to do things efficiently or properly.

What the hell... since when was downshifting into specific gears a law? I drive manual and I never have to downshift into first unless I'm coming off a complete stop.

Tell me about it I argued with the 2nd guy all he could say was "Sorry but this is what is required etc etc" I was pissed but what can you really do? The 3rd time I took it the guy told me he drives manual and he was very nice, no problems at all he was surprised I failed and basically told me some people have bad days etc. :S
I agree with Shaner ...

I don't get why everyone is finding brampton so hard. Everyone I talk to fails on their first try as well but for all test I past on my first try.
Plus both times my tester was real nice. They both told me what my mistakes were at the end but said they are minor.
anyways im glad its all over now.

Passing the G2/G tests in Brampton used to be much harder when the test center used to be on Airport and Steeles. I can brag about passing both tests there on the first try though. From what I have heard, the test at the new center isn't that hard. I recommend taking the test at the center on Eglinton; the test there is literally a joke - much easier than Orangeville and Guelph and it is way more convenient to practise there if you live in the West end.

I passed my Brampton G2 exit test on the first try. I made some mistakes, but none to warrant a fail.
Though, I did fail my G1. :(

If Brampton and morning side are hard..is that means Vic Park has became easier? Vic Park used to be a hard place to take G exam.

I took my g1 exit test with an automatic car and passed on the first try (even though I made some mistakes). My g2 exit test I took with my own car which is manual and passed again on the first try (one small mistake...something to do with pulling the hand brake).

Me too. Even got perfect on my knowledge test. It really isn't that hard.

imo there is likely more than $75 worth of administrative overhead associated with someone requiring to take the test again.
