I got this BSOD error last week and googled for a fix. The fix mentioned to boot to my XP cd and press "R" when I get to the "Welcome to Setup" screen.

The problem is that my XP cd doesn't even get to the "Welcome to Setup" screen; it just loads up the drivers for about 90 secs or so and then goes to another BSOD (not unmountable boot volume) right after it it says "Starting Windows Setup".

Anybody have ideas on how to fix? Is my H/D dying?

I'd go into the bios and load the default fail safe settings.

Read this too, When you restart your computer or upgrade to Windows XP, you receive the "STOP 0x000000ED UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME" error message (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;q297185).

You can use the HDD manufacturers' diagnostic software to check.
Refer to their website to download, create and use software.
