I tried today to get ("buy") my credit report online from the equifax website
So i clicked order , entered all the required information they asked (basic information -name , birthday , address , phone ...) , chose user name & password and pressed next in order to proceed
but than , instead of sending me to the payment , i get this page tells me they are sorry but they can't verify my identity and gave me a phone number to call for help
I really wonder what is the problem here
I'm sure that all the information i gave them is 100% correct
I didn't entered my sin number though , it was optional
Should i try again with the sin number ?
Anyone here had this problem before ?
Any suggestions ?
I know there is the option to actually call them and try to figure it out , but i personally really hate to deal with this kind of things on the phone
Thanks in advance

interestingly enough, I am having exactly exactly same problem with transunion since last week, to the point where they provided me with credit score, but not with my credit report, because they could not verify my identity. I ended faxing 2 pieces of ID and written request to provide me with my credit reports. Still waiting ...
my equifax looks OK though, I ordered report and received it today, everything looks OK, so I am not sure wtf is happening.

I had the exact same problem. Tried Equifax first, asked me questions about student loans etc (which I never had taken out) -- so I went over to Transunion. The took my money first and then verified my identity so I was a little more diligent on trying to get it setup.
I ended up phoning and they wanted addresses etc from over 14 years ago -- with postal codes! I've moved around alot and couldn't remember any of them. Finally one came to mind, then she wanted to postal code -- luckily google was right in front of me.
In the end, managed to get it done -- never realized it would be so difficult to get a credit check done online!

Damn , i never thought it is so complicated
I'm pretty new in canada , less than 2 years and always been at the same address , so i don't understand what the hell is their problem with verifying my identity
Should i give it another shot with the sin number ? is it even safe to give them my sin ?
Hell , they probably have my sin anyway , no ?

Yeah if you're comfortable, the SIN helps them locate the report much more effectively.
It might be having trouble finding your credit report without your SIN, this could be due to incomplete information or some other reason (address is wrong, birthdate missing, etc...)

Yeah if you're comfortable, the SIN helps them locate the report much more effectively.
It's not about being comfortable or not, i just not sure if it will make any difference ?
If i will try again with the sin and still get the same problem with identity , now that will definitely piss me off .
I really don't understand it .
If i go to the bank and apply for credit for example , the bank will be able to pull out my full credit report EASILY , without my sin # or any other BS .
But why if i want to do it myself it is so complicated ?

Some of the other areas that Equifax online will not be able to verify your identity:
1) They ask you a series of multiple choice questions about your credit past. Example:
In August of 2006, you opened up a line of credit from which institution
a) CIBC
b) TD
c) CDA
d) None of the Above
If you answered any of those incorrectly, you will get that response 'Cannot verify your identity.
2) You will also get that response if you are paying with a credit card towhich you are NOT the primary card holder.
It is stated in their Terms, that you must be the owner primary card holder for the credit card payment.

like i said before , those idiots didn't ask me any credit past questions whatsoever
I was only at the first step when they asked me to fill the basic info (name , address , birth date , phone , pick usermame & pass) than after i pressed next to continue they told me they can't verify my identity

I have the same problem with Equifax and I have NEVER been able to get my report online from them.
However I was able to get the free one (without the score) through the mail quite easily.

I had the exact same problem. I just called in and answered a few questions and it was taken care of. Very simple and didn't take too much time at all. Just call. It would have been easier than posting this thread and thinking about it so much.
