I just bought a new set of winter tires and am wondering what is the proper way to store my almost new all - season tires. Should they lay flat? Upright? Inside the garage or inside the house? Please help!

Put them in your garage upright.

Flat, in the house or space that doesn't experience temperature cycling if possible.

Put them in your garage upright.

Absolutely not, unless you like hearing thump-thump-thump when you drive. That's a surefire way to get flatspots.

Store the tires lying flat on their sides. Do not place them on bare concrete or asphalt. Put them on a piece of thick cardboard (I use a flattened box).

if they are on rims then flat or hung up...if they are are not on rims then they should be stored standing up

If you notice the fine print on that link, storing them upright means rotating them regularly to prevent flat spots. I know I would never remember to do this, so I just put them in plastic bags on their sides in the basement. (Of course, mine are on rims so I don't have any experience with this method on unmounted tires.)

I got a tirestand from CT for $19.99 when it was on sale, if I recalled correctly.

Each tires would be dropped on vertical rod through the center hub, a metail pin and a plastic disc about 4-5'' in diameter will hold the tire horizontally at the center of the rims. Each tire rests on its own pin and disc, not on each other. The 1s tire stays off the concrete floor, each tire will have spaces between them. Do a search in this forum for tire stand, you may be able to see a link with picture.

If you store them standing up, you may want to rotate them once in while.

I don't think storing them standing up is a big deal.. Perhaps rotate them once a winter. Its not like they are supporting the weight of a vehicle, which is definitely something that could cause flat spotting if left for months.

I've stored them flat for several years and have no issues. I do have the Michelin Tire Bags.

I store mine flat.... In a tire bag. Don't think there's much else to be said.
