I think once you use your credit card with paypal it's connected...

People say CC is a better option than bank transfer because if things go wrong you can do a CC charge back.

Yes, you can use your credit card INSTANTLY.
just log into paypal and add/edit credit card.
add the credit card and away you go.

if you add your actually bank account it will take about a week.
they have to send you a deposit- then check that deposit and confirm it.. blah blah blah.. this sucks because i just opened a US$ account and i need to pay for stuff that i just bought with paypal =( and it's going to take awhile...

Maybe he went over his limit and got hit with the overlimit fee? I have never got charged a fee with using Visa through Paypal except for being ripped off by Paypal's thieving exchange rates.

Is currency exchange involved from paypal if you use a Canadian issued US Dollar credit card? lets say from BMO.

I signed up with Paypal a couple of months ago to pay for something that only accepted Paypal.

I used my credit card linked with it, but it also asked for a bank account to link (I might of thought it was mandatory at the time, so I linked my LOC). It had to be validated by them making 2 small deposits into it and then me confirming it. I never bothered with it, until I made an Ebay purchase yesterday and used Paypal. I removed my LOC that was linked (and never used or validated, score 30 cents off Paypal!) and used my CC (that was still linked).

I think CC is a much faster and easy way to go with Paypal. Within an hour my Ebay seller that said he got a confirmed payment and would send out the item. Money from a linked bank account takes days I believe.

Paypal NEVER charges a fee for the BUYER, only the SELLER. If i were selling something, i would NEVER use paypal, they rip the seller off. So that fee was probably due to your friends end. not paypal.

Yes, currency exchange is strait from paypal. I find these days especially just to set up a US bank account, with TD if you set one up you get the premium rate and don't get charged extra. i've done this. you save a bout $0.01-$1 per transaction with the US account. which add's up =)

haha they only deposited like $0.07 in my account =0. well to scam it, i guess you could keep adding the bank account and removing it, obtaining this small amount of cash every single time? lol. they might catch on though...

You cannot keep adding the same account, but you can add as many different accounts as you want. Someone actually did this on a massive scale and scammed Paypal for hundreds of thousands of dollars. They tried to sue him, but since they put the money into his accounts voluntarily, he won the case. Although I bet they introduced some kind of monitoring to prevent this after that incident.

I tried this- it doesn't work adding the same account over and over again.

I also remember years ago they used to put in higher amounts (over $1 or even $2) and now they're just depositing a few cents.

That's not completely true. If you use amex to fund the purchase, it will charge the amex in USD regardless of the currency you actually send the seller. Paypal will send you back a small amount a few days later to offset the amount "lost" in currency conversion.

the only reason i added my bank account was because they made me? i don't remember exactly, but they wouldn't let me use my CC anymore and i had to verify myself?

Found it. Apparently I was a bit overestimating the amount, it was close to 50K in reality and Paypal was not the only victim.

It says he got the deposits into just a few bank accounts, not sure how he fooled the systems into accepting the same accounts multiple times.

OK This makes a bit more sense. It doesn't say anything about Paypal, just Shwab and some others, I dunno if they have unique accounts like Paypal.

Paypal's "only add once" rule is actually very annoying and crappy because take this for example - me and my wife have a joint CC account, but we have our own Paypal accounts (because we have our own bank accounts) - but we can't use the same CC on both Paypal accounts due to this limit.

I guess this is what the additional cards are for ;).

I got bit with a similar policy. I have a credit card account with MBNA which was associated to 2 separate credit card numbers. Basically, I had a card but MBNA canceled the card program and gave me another card with a different number. However, the original number registered with paypal and Fido and was still working. The Fido refills would show up on the statement for the new card with the old number.

So, when the 1st number expired, I was not able to add the new number to Paypal cuz they said u can't take out a card and add the same card even though it had a different number. I probably should have tried updating the expiry date before removing it.

I guess this is what the additional cards are for ;).

Yup, I need to get a 2nd card to use paypal now. Probably a good idea anyways to have a Visa and a MC.

That is strange. When I used Paypal (ok, it was 2 or 3 years ago) I could add new numbers for cards I changed and add additional cardholder's numbers with no problems. I wonder when they started this additional limitation.

In my case, I removed the first number online and tried to put the new number in and that's when it said I couldn't do that. Then I called them up to ask what's going on and they told me once you remove a card (a credit card account) you can't add the same one back on even with a different number.
