View Full Version : High probability RFD member stole my computer in B&E

Sometime when I was at work, person(s) unknown broke into my house while I was at work.
They stole from me my custom less than a week old computer, digital camera and some loose change.
I had met with someone who is a registered member of RFD to show them some items.
I believe this person followed me home prior to me leaving for work.
A picture of the person was captured on a video surveillance camera.
The picture is a little grainy because of low light, and needs to be enhanced.
It looks like the same person I met earlier that same day.
The video was given to the RCMP as evidence.
I believe with a high probability that a RFD member is the the person who did this crime.
If and when the person(s) are caught it would be interesting to have the RCMP go through their computer for evidence.
They would need probable cause and reason to get a warrant to do such a thing, if the person(s) are arrested outside of their home.
The priority and nature of the crime would not of the would not warrant this action.
If they are arrested at home the RCMP could get a warrant to search their computer.
It would be interesting to see the outcome and to see if this person is an RFD member.
Moral of story, watch your backs.
Be aware if you are being followed.
Do not give and indication where you live and your schedule to a potential buyer or seller.

I wouldnt have posted this information as it might give the member (if it is them) a chance to re-locate the stolen merchandise.
This is also why I never give my home address. I always meet somewhere neutral.
Good luck with your situation! Hope you get your stuff back!

I generally meet very far from home since I go to school downtown and live somewhere else.
I've only allowed one person to come to my place so I could buy something and they had good feedback.
Hopefully you catch that bugger.

What is heatware?
"HeatWare" ( www.heatware.com ) is a private traders' evaluation and reference site used by members of various BBSs (Bulletin Boards' Traders Forums) which allows one to post evaluations of his or her private trades or deals with another. In order to submit or receive an evaluation, you must register for an account on HeatWare.

I don't understand the replies so far....OP said he was followed so I would assume they met somewhere away from the house....

I'm not sure why you're making this distinction between where they are arrested having anything to do with whether or not the police can get a search warrant. Probable cause to believe evidence of a crime is on the computer is required to get a search warrant no matter where one is arrested.
Anyway, sorry bout your $hitty luck OP, hope you get your stuff back (though it's pretty unlikely) or that at least your home insurance will cover your loss....and I really hope it wasn't an RFD member!

I was just going through his related posts to see how it all went down, but I did not find the transaction in question (Only looked through the first few pages of posts, to be honest)
However, I did notice that the OP has a severely negative and condescending attitude against other members of the forum & should probably change his outlook.. People target that kind of person, because they feel less remorse against them, since they're constantly nagging others.
Its not right, but in the first page of your post summary alone:
- You blame RFD member for B&E
- Tell people that they need English lessons on the forum
- Have a "major rant" thread against potential buyers
- Severely negative commentary in your "Serious inquiries only- MB, CPU & video card-Free shipping" thread
- Make a slightly racist comment about President Elect Obama
I think you should seriously consider changing your outward attitude and maybe you won't attract thieves to your door.
Or, you could always stop trying to sell things here.
My 2 cents..

this is why you were robbed, they look out for each other you know
next time you sell on rfd, get the buyer to arrive at the meeting place early and if you see that you don't want to deal with them just do a no show

There's something about reading one sentence per line.
It feels like I'm reading some bad poetry.
Or maybe someone with some strong ADHD trying to piece together a train of thoughts.
Do you really have the need to hit the enter key after each sentence?

Update: Some items recovered thief arrested
Just got a call from the RCMP, some of my items have been recovered.
The information I provided, and the tracking software on my computer helped.
The fool connected my computer within a few hours of stealing it.
The tracking software which was installed on my computer,
notified the security company that my computer was connected to the internet and IP logged.
They notified me and I provided this information to the RCMP.
This was enough to get a search warrant on the address.
Thief is in custody and is charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000
More charges may follow.

What use is an IP address to the RCMP? 200.021.2123 is not exactly helpful. Something is not right.

the OP is probably trying to front here to recover some face. probably the reality is that he got robbed and in addition to that the thief neutered his dog and also made the OP grope his dad.
the thief is probably browsing through the OP's porno collection now. all 500 gigs of it.
