Looking for a large electric fireplace, specifically in the colour white with some appealing detail to the mantle. I like this one at Rona but I would like to have some options in choice particular given that this is $700. The wider the better because its size dictates how large a TV I can get away with hanging above it.

Unless you have small kids, are sure you want to mount a TV above a fireplace? Viewing angle will bother your neck.
When flatpanels first came out, it was aesthetically the look.
It also conforms to design with the fireplace being the focal point. However, an electric FP is a glorified space heater (I have one) and putting a TV above it is not conducive to home theatre entertainment.
Ideally, the centre of the screen should be eye height from your seating area.
I can see your option if you have an open concept floorplan when the TV may be alternately viewed from a bar or the kitchen. And you will also need a spot to put all the electronic equipment connected to the TV somewhere near the fireplace.
Of course, it's up to you. Just some forethought :)
A little on the modern side...

thanks for the advice... we have a modern living room that looks much like your picture although done on a bit more of a budget im sure, but this is for the den in the basement, my wife wants to warm the room up without having to crank the heat in the house, I dont want to pay tp run in Gas lines in or tear up my walls so gas it out. I also want a TV in the room and the layout forces this location. I also have a lounge on the couch facing it so I can lie back and naturally look up...
sooo. any suggestions
