If you go to the wireless kiosk in Costco, you can get $100.00 in Costco cash on a new activation to apply to the BB Bold $199.00 price..

conflicting information here. Is it $99 for new customers, or $99 for existing customers that are willing to resign?

This appears to be available at any Rogers store or by calling in. I received a brochure in the mail that offers:

BB Bold $99.99
BB Pearl Flip 8220 $0

No activation fee. Expires Dec 31.

It says you need to be an existing customer renewing on a 3-year term.

Got this same price at Wireless Wave in the GTA...

199.99 - $100 in store credit if you activate a 3 year line and $45+ voice/data plan

Ported my number over from Fido

I've got the 6GB data plan, too... yet I got the brochure in the mail. However, I haven't ever bought a phone through Rogers (unlocked from e-bay).

The flyer scans says $15 minimum data plan, not $45.

Is this only at Wireless Wave or would it work too if I called into Rogers? My 3 year contract's ending in 2 weeks!

I visited a Wireless Wave kiosk, a Rogers kiosk, and a Rogers Video store today in GTA, and was informed at all three that I am not eligibile for any type of discount and that I would be charged full price $649 to upgrade to a Bold from the 8800.

I am 1 year into a 3 year contract, $25 voice / $25 data.

When I asked why I am being charged full price as an existing 3 year Rogers customer, I was informed that it has something to do with the amount of revenue my account generates.

I guess my lovely Retentions plan is coming back to haunt me

^^^^^^^^^^, what were they suppose to do was remove your old BB data plan and readd it on the term, THEN the promo discount will apply.

From the threads over on HoFo it seems this plan is for a specific criteria of customer.

No Data Plan and Non Blackberry User.

You also had to physically be mailed the flyer. Thats through rogers. I will check wireless wave on my lunch tomorrow

Some people have had success calling in over and over again. Im not tied to a data plan (month to month) so I will try to get in on this.

Thanks OP (Thanked also)

Based on everything I've read here and there, I would tend to agree with the above assessment. It seems that Rogers is targeting specific accounts in an effort to generate more revenue (makes sense from a purely business point of view, I guess.)

I am month-to-month on my data plan as well, so I would think they'd want to lock me in (I am on contract for my voice plan.)

Interestingly enough, I was on the phone with tech support for an unrelated issue today, and when I asked about replacing my current BB to the Bold because of hardware malfunction (legitimate) he said he didn't see why they wouldn't give me the same deal. Now, obviously, tech support is not sales, but he suggested I call back during business hours and talk to Customer Relations. Both Rogers retailers suggested the same.

Will give it a shot tomorrow and report back...

Just to clear this up a bit.

This is an offer for people who actually get the flyers by mail.
You can't fake it by calling and say you get the flyer when you didn't because they can check your account to see if you did actually get one or not.
So don't embarrass yourself and call if you didn't get one. This also work for Blackberry Curve and it's $0.

Wireless Wave and Best Buy also offer some type of discount on Blackberry handsets. Those discounts are solely offer by themselves and not by Rogers. These are for new activations only which mean not only you need to pay $35 activation fee, but also pay for a higher monthly plan.

You must sign up for a Data plan which start from $15 for 3 years. Of course you need a voice plan also.

WOOHOO i qualified for the plan albeit becaues im a voice only customer right now. considering that if i sign 3 years voice only, the cost of the phone is still like friggin 749 from rogers (stupid cause markways.com sells it for 649 right now) and thats factored over 3 years, getting the bold for 99 is pretty sweet, meaning the cost of the phone factored in makes 15 bucks a month for 500mb of data. unfortunately rogers retention is being an ass and wont cover my texting, so im axing it.

just to let you know rogers on the phone offered the bold for 99 as well, not wireless wave, so its not limited to just wirelesswave itself.

There is a new $20 BB ValuePack that you should ask retentions about.
I saw it in the Rogers Forum on HoFo.

Here's what Treatz posted:

New Blackberry Value pack INCLUDES UL Email
---------------------------------------------
Starting Nov 22nd to Jan 12th

The Blackberrry Messaging pack.

$20.00 a month gives you:

Personal Email ( UL email)
UL IM
Call + Name display
Enhanced VM
10,000 sent SMS / mms / Vid messages*
Whocalled

*I'm not sure if it's 10000 EA, or 10000 combined

This package is 36 month only and also qualifies as the data for voice + data HUP's and Newacts on BB

Just to clarify and help out others...

I was with Fido, been with them since 2001. Renewed a contract in Feb 2008 which expires 2010. Called Fido and told them I need a BB and wanted to port over, rep made a note on my account to ensure I would not be charged any ECF as long as I port my number over to Rogers on a 3 year contract.

On Fido I originally had a $20 retention plan 250 min with u/l e/w, network calling with the $30 6 GB option and $15 smartphone value pack, and a $20 total in credits monthly. Paid around $70 each month all in. Using a Nokia E71-2 and iPhone as a backup.

Also have 2 other lines with them that are voice only however, leaving them with Fido.

Went to Wireless Wave, got a friend to do the activation and porting.
$100 discount on the listed $199 price for a 3 year term with the Bold and a voice/data plan. This is a WW discount, not Rogers.

Picked up the new $45 voice & data plan with 200 min, u/l e/w at 9 pm, network calling and 500 MB data, which is more than enough for my use and on a BB.

As a grad student, qualified for the free 6 pm early calling and also got another $5 knocked off the price plan as long as I added the $15 smartphone value pack which I was going to add anyways.

So in total I'm paying the same amount as I was on Fido but now getting full BB functionality which was vital for me at this point in my life.

EA is the unit of measure (UoM) for Each.
Example:
EA = Each
PR = Pair
BX = Box
etc.

The dates he posted are from Dec 22 till Jan 12th, then another user on HoFo, RogersInsider posted:

Just wait till Q1.

$20 will get you 2500, 1000MMS, CID, EVM, Who Called, and either Unlimited Surfing (Regular Phones), OR 30MB Data (Smartphones) or 30MB BIS DATA (Blackberries) depending on your IMEI.

15$ will get you 100MB of BIS or Regular Data as a standalone option (replaces current $15 - 2MB data)

If this all pans out then it looks like BB Data will be a little more affordable.

u should clarify that, cause i work at rogers and that promo ended on the 4th of november and it should say "Value Pack 5 off", cause the 33.3 percent ur saying is given to everyone. That 33.3 percent just means that any extra wireless essentials add on would be discounted 33.3%.

The place you bought it from probably still had to old brochures lying around and they mustve thought that.

OK, so here's what went down yesterday:

Spent a half hour on the phone with Rogers tech support, and after determining that my device was defective, they checked my account and noted that the warranty period had expired. Fine, I knew that. The guy said he'd transfer me to customer relations to see what they could do.

Given my history of problems, and this second defective unit, the guy offered an equivalent replacement (likely refurbished again) or something else of my choice. When I mentioned I was interested in the Bold, he said he'd give it to me for $199 and that it could be shipped in 3-5 business days or I could pick it up at any Rogers store. I asked to make sure that this would be on record and he assured me it would.

Lo and behold, once I arrived at the Rogers store, the system was quoting $649 again, so we had to spend another hour on the phone while they fiddled with my account. Once everything was figured out and they signed me to a 3-year data plan (my voice plan remains under existing contract) the system quoted an interesting price of $224 for the HUP (and no activation fee.)

They gave me the coupon for $50 MIR and assured me that it would be off the $224, so essentially, I'm getting the Bold for $174, which is a rather odd number.

Can't wait to see what's in store when my next bill arrives... I'm just dying to call in and wait on hold for another few hours

haha gross, yeah ive spent a good few hours with rogers, and then went i went to the store, they were on hold because the hup site was down and she had to do it manually haha.

ive never been on data before, so after telling them i wanted the bold for 99, they didnt ask for anything. the girl on the phone flagged my accoutn apparently, although the next rogers rep asked me to bring the letter itno the store when i went to pick it up. i went to wirelesswave and got it for 99, and im goign to send in the 50 MIR so hoepfully it all goes thru for 50!

I just called Rogers to see if I qualify for a Bold on my line.

We did get a letter that we could upgrade to a Bold for $99 on my wife's line as she hasn't upgraded in quite a while.

When I called in, she said my line didn't qualify, but I could technically upgrade my wife's phone to the Bold at the discount rate if I removed the data from my line, with the premise that once I got the phone, I could just transfer the required data plan to my line and use the Bold as my phone.

She also stated that I got a $50 mail in rebate that would come with the phone, so essentially I got it for $50.

She made notes on the account that once the phone arrived I would be switching the data plan off my wife's line and adding the IME to my line and I wouldn't be charged anything more. Just to make sure I asked that she read it back to me, which she did. I also asked that she check with a supervisor to see if this was all legit and possible, which it is.

Not a bad deal if the mail in rebate comes through. Even if it doesn't, I got the Bold on my line when I technically wouldn't have qualified. :)
